In preparation for the upcoming and final adventure of Solid Snake, GameTrailers is cranking out an awesome retrospective on the series. Last week the crew finished part one which took us back twenty years to the old school games without the “Solid” added on. This week they’re taking a look back on the first Metal Gear Solid which made its debut on the PlayStation One.
The Twin Snakes GameCube remake of MGS1 is also glanced at, as well as those memorable (and excruciatingly difficult) missions from VR Missions. Next week should be equally fun as MGS2 (this blogger’s personal favorite) will be the next part in the retrospective.

When you think about Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3, it’s not instantaneous to associate the title with our beloved console, the PlayStation 3. The series is strongly rooted in the PC realm; however, that doesn’t mean we’re not excited. We’re certainly looking forward to seeing this game — especially after having a taste test of last night’s debut footage.
The game looks amazingly beautiful. Make sure you see it in HD glory. While the game looks great, we’re pretty sure the PC version is on display here and not PS3. Anyway, our version should be visually on par. Also interesting, it looks like the game has a new possible release date: October 2008.
[Thanks Steve C.!]

Chock this one up to some weird collector who doesn’t mind spending several thousand dollars on what is most likely a 40GB PS3 with a few cheap crystals in a separate container or glued on with rubber cement.
Either this is the most random fake eBay auction regarding PS3’s to date, or someone really is able to commission a PS3 to be decked out with Swarovski crystals. Either way, you should at least watch the bid to see if someone actually buys it. We can all laugh at them, then cry when we see they have a PS3 carved from a single, gigantic crystal.

NIS America’s online storefront, Rosenqueen, is promising a goofy preorder award for anyone who reserves Puchi Puchi Virus, Nippon Ichi’s allot puzzler. Customers who pay the $19.99 in advance will receive a squishy, pill-shaped Anti-Virus Stress Reliever, much like the image on the right, except branded with everyone’s favorite Disgaea mascots, Prinnies.
As far as we know, the actual game doesn’t feature any Prinnies, so it seems as if Rosenqueen is looking to move more Puchi Puchi Virus units by attracting Disgaea fans who have to own every piece of the series’ merchandise. Then again, we wouldn’t put it past Nippon Ichi to pack one of its games with cameos from the developer’s other franchises.
Rosenqueen plans to only have a thousand of these two-tone capsules, so make sure to preorder soon! Hopefully they made sure not to line up any of the colored halves while packing these, lest they accidentally clear out their entire stock.

The tagline is “if they’re no dead, they will be.” After watching the video, we’re fairly excited to take the role of the survivor and prove that tagline wrong. If the promise of a survival horror title with the ability to keep you on the edge of your seat isn’t enough, take a look at the awesome sights of space in the video. It’s like Sunshine turned into a video game; the views of space are epic and will give us a sense of awe and helplessness as we play. The narrative in the video describes the basics of what’s going on, so give it a look and a listen and let us know what you think of this game hitting shelves at the end of October.

Team Criterion just posted new screenshot love of a just revealed Burnout Paradise island expansion that’ll be released as part of the August 2008 Davis update. The same update that’ll add motorbikes to Paradise City. You can view all four new island screenshots in the gallery below and before you look, we apologize for their small size. For whatever reason, Criterion doesn’t want to shower us with hi-res screenshot magic. Meh! Take in the new Davis island, dream of motorbike deplete and the tropical sun … August is almost here!
Also, we embedded Criterion’s new making-of the fish market video after the break for those of you who get all giddy with excitement over seeing the development cycle in its rawest form.

Hey, you! No, not the guy on the next screen along with the muffin — you. That’s right. You a European? You are? Great! So let’s hear it: why have we just checked the latest European charts and found that Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney charted absolutely nowhere? If yours truly can summon up the the effort to scour the high street give his credit card details to an online retailer, you can do the same! No wonder Capcom seems to be thinking twice about releasing Trials and Tribulations here.
And now look what you’ve done! There are bits of Brain Training and Mario and Sonic everywhere! Eww.

Yes, Valkyria Chronicles is out in Japan, but this video interview tells you everything you need to know to dive into the world the game is set in before it hits your shores. If you’re new to the game, this is a great introduction to the CANVAS engine that powers the game as well as the basic storyline about military powers struggling to gain control over Ragnite, a precious mineral that powers most of the world’s technology. Most interesting is the ability to have 50 different kinds of customizable soldiers in your army. The game looks great and we’re excited to see it when it leaves Japan later this year.

Remember that upcoming XBLA title from The Behemoth called Castle Crashers that everyone and their mother can’t wait for? We know you do! According to artist Dan Paladin’s on the official Behemoth blog, the anticipated XBLA game is finished. But, before you start marking your calendars keep in mind the game is still far from ready.
“It has to go through all the required hoops of certification/final testing & all that jazz before it will actually become available on the service [XBLA],” wrote Paladin. While Paladin also mentioned the team is excited the game is hitting “the world,” he notes it still may be a number of months before we’re hacking-and-slashing our way through the world.
Now we play the waiting game… aw, the waiting game sucks. Let’s play Hungry Hungry Hippos.

A quick word about the new art on Konami’s Castlevania: Order of Eccelsia site for Japan — badical. Several not-so-quick words — we’d heard from early previews that series producer Koji Igarashi and his team were moving away from the anime character designs employed in the two previous Castlevania DS titles, but we weren’t expecting the new art direction to impress us this much. Also — hooker boots.
As for the “Nintendo Power secret” hinted in the title, look at the glowing satellite behind Order of Ecclesia’s protagonist, Shanoa. Notice anything familiar? Doesn’t it look like the same mystery moon Nintendo Power used as a clue in the latest issue’s preview page? Peer into a telescope past the post break to compare!
