Rawr!
Of the three Godzilla: Unleashed games released (Wii, PS2, and DS), the DS version is, without a doubt, the worst of the bunch. That’s saying a lot considering that GameSpot described the Wii version as “the worst thing to happen to Godzilla since getting killed by Mothra’s babies.” In its review of the DS game, Godzilla: Unleashed Double Smash, Nintendo Power opined, “The slow descent in Godzilla games has finally hit rock bottom.”
Nevertheless, publisher Atari had a job to do — sell copies of the game — and it did its best to win over fans with monster-sized ads befitting of the radioactive monster. Lurch past the post break to see what we mean!

It’s been a long time coming, but Haze finally makes it out this week. Free basic’s story driven FPS has been delayed almost countless times since its intended release last November. Now, at last, we’re able to begin a Nectar bender that will, hopefully, last until June 12th. Here’s the full release list:
US Games
EU Games
Asian Games
Americans can also look forward to the release of SingStar, a game their cousins across the pond have been enjoying since before Christmas. We look forward to seeing videos of drunken Americans popping up on My SingStar Online over the next few weeks. We’ve noticed that Play.com are already stating that Haze is in stock and ready to be dispatched. No idea if that means you’ll get it before Friday, but it’s worth a try.
Not that you need to, considering Haze has a global release, but feel free to import any of the above games. Your PS3 will run them all. Release dates are constantly subject to change, so make sure to check with your local retailer before doing anything rash.

While we’re sure Nintendo will send a press release to mark the momentous occasion once 20 million DSes are sold in the U.S., recent numbers show that the handheld is almost there. After April’s NPD numbers, 19.6 million of the systems have sold in the region since its launch.
Even though Japan has a much smaller population and reached the 20 million mark months ago, such a landmark can’t be seen as anything but a success for Nintendo. It’ll only be a matter of time now before the U.S. joins Europe and Japan in the classification of “regions that have sold 20 million DS systems.”

Finally, we get some concrete news on the upcoming Pokémon Platinum outside of magazine scans, as it’s revealed today the title will be making a fall release in Japan. As for a release in other regions, we’re pretty sure it will happen, just that the actual date is left up to speculation right now.
Pokémon Platinum will serve as a companion title to Pokémon Diamond & Pearl, much like Nintendo has done in the past with previous Pokémon titles.

If you’re a fan of Nicolas Cage, or just stiff acting in general, then you’ll love this week of Blu-ray releases. There’s the two National Treasure films to snore to, one of Adam Sandler’s least memorable flicks, and possibly the worst WrestleMania in a decade.
So, is there anything really worth watching this week? Not really. Short Circuit might be worth the eleven bucks … that is, if you haven’t watched it within the past 22 years.

A new Polish outfit — so new in fact that it doesn’t seem to even have a website yet — has announced development of a new first/third person shooter for the Xbox 360 and PC called The Protector, which promises the unorthodox mix of terrorism and Aztec lore. Developed by upstart Gingerbread Studios, the game’s playable characters similarly break from convention, lacing players up in the boots of former lovers Jennifer cunning and Jonathan Kane, a US archaeologist and British mercenary.
Even so, their relationship won’t just be used to thicken the sexual tension ala Melrose Place. Instead, the devs note that each will work to keep an ancient Aztec weapon out of the hands of terrorists using different skills, with archaeologist cunning sneaking around stealthily while Kane sprays bad guys with bullets in “searing, tactical shooting.” The game, which has not yet been given a release date, won’t just have the pair going up against terrorists, but also “mythical Aztec creatures” as well, giving us all the reason we need to keep an eye on The Protector in the months to come.

We have a public service announcement for future twelve month Xbox Live subscription purchasers in the United States. A while back, we mentioned that with the new Xbox Live card re-design the twelve month subscription mysteriously lost its free month, because it made no allude of the bid that was prominently featured on the old packaging. Well, we soon discovered that even though the new packaging didn’t allude the free month, it was in fact there when purchasers redeemed the code. So, Microsoft being the helpful folks they are, they started adding mini stickers to the twelve month Live subscription packaging telling of the extra free month. Now, more recently, they went one step further, getting rid of the sticker and actually adding the 12+1 verbiage to the insert packaging itself. Convenient.
So, what’s the point of this public service announcement? Good question. There really isn’t a deep meaning to this PSA other then the fact that no matter which Xbox Live 12 month subscription you buy (old packaging, new packaging with sticker or new packaging with insert), they ALL include a free month of Live. Thank you.

Whether you’re a fan of the movie, the novel, or just a certain scene re-enacted by cats, Hunter S. Thompson’s Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas is one unique experience. Now, some person has gone and whipped up some great fanart, combining Hunter’s world of drugs with none other than Nintendo’s plumbers, the Mario brothers. It’s not the greatest piece of art in the world, but it certainly brought a smile to our face when we looked upon it for the first time.

Here’s an interview with Alex Evans, co-founder of Media Molecule, the developers of LittleBigPlanet. The gameplay footage in the video is mostly old news, but Evans spits out some really good narrative that’ll give you more of an idea about the open-endedness (it’s a word for today) the game offers. A very interesting and creative part of the interview comes when Evans is talking about creating a “race” level where everybody sprints to the finish — but the creator of the level put the sign that says “finish” on wheels, so it keeps “running away” from the sackboys. That’s really funny and rather creative. He says the game should be done this Fall and it’s got an October date slapped on it, so let’s hope that remains the date of release.

We thought that creating a Neo Geo emulator on the DS was a pretty noteworthy achievement. GameSetWatch contributor Alistair Wallis agreed, and he sought out the developer of NeoDS, Ben Ingram, for an interview.
Ingram goes into enough detail about the development of a homebrew emulation program, and assigning functions of the Neo Geo’s processors to the DS’s, that, well, we pretty much lost him right away. But if you do know anything at all about computing, this is really interesting. It’s really interesting anyway, just to see what kind of stuff a homebrew developer has to think about when creating a new DS application.
