Prince of Persia speed art video reveals Elika as a character

While most of the video is dramatic music as an artist at Ubisoft does a speed drawing on the computer of the newly-revealed female companion to the … “prince” … in the upcoming Prince of Persia title, there’s still a little bit of information about this mysterious Elika. She’ll be integral to the plot, naturally, since she’s supposed to give players and the main character someone to connect with and someone to grow attached to. That’s mostly PR speak for “she’s going to be around, she’ll be cool, and sparks may or may not fly”. Either way, it’s just cool to see the drawing take form in a time-lapsed fashion.

Tornado might blow over to North America

Filed under:

The comparisons between Tornado and Katamari Damacy are extremely evident, but there’s one major difference: Katamari Damacy games are available outside of Japan, whereas Success’s title has yet to accomplish that.

In fact, Tornado hasn’t even released in Japan yet. It was originally scheduled to come out last year, but later become delayed indefinitely. Oddly enough, though, GameFly has a listing for a DS game called Tornado. Can it be the same game? Perhaps — we hope so, at least. We wouldn’t mind having a portable Katamari-like game release in North America for our favorite handheld.

Whatever this game is, it’s being published by Ignition Entertainment and has a GameFly release date of September ‘08.

Show and Tell: By hand

Filed under:

Need a case? Sure, you could buy one — and there are plenty available — but as a dedicated Show and Tell reader, surely by now you can guess where this is going. If you just shouted out, “Wisconsin!,” you are both very wrong and very random (also, stop yelling at the screen; it’s sensitive). If, instead, you suspect a little DIY is ahead, you just may be right.

Reader Eleniel decided to make a case, but there was just one problem — no sewing machine about. But that’s okay, because DS Fanboy readers are hardcore, so like your intrepid hostess, Eleniel sewed it by hand. It is, however, one hell of a lot better than my work. It’s got that fancy new zipper technology. That doesn’t mean it’s perfect, though; Eleniel confesses that the pocket designed to hold games doesn’t exactly hold anything. We still like checking it out, though. And, while on the DIY kick, Eleniel also made an Okami-inspired skin. Might as well go all out, right? You can check out the finished products in our gallery below.

Show and Tell is all about your stuff, so long as it’s Nintendo-related. We love to see your collections, your crafts, your frosted creations, your t-shirts and swag of all sorts. Just snap a few pictures, tell us what’s up, and send it all to showmeit [at] dsfanboy [dot] com. We’ll take care of the rest.

Sega announces Pictoimage

Sega has a new DS title in the works, by the name of Pictoimage. A puzzle title set for release this August, Pictoimage is essentially a variation of the game Pictionary, where a word is presented and the player must draw something reflecting the meaning of that word. The title will feature multiplayer support for up to eight players, as well as a full-fledged single-player mode.

You can check out some screens from the game in our gallery below.

Homebrew: Using the DS as a PDA

One thing that’s been brought up countless times in DS-related discussions is “if only it could be used as a PDA.” Well, with the right combination of hardware and software, it can! But just how well does it stand up to other devices with that classification? Read on as I take the DS through its paces to see how it performs as a personal digital assistant.

Monster Hunter 2nd G gets even more downloadable content

It’s quickly becoming one of those games whose life gets extended further and further thanks to downloadable content, but we’re not complaining because Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G deserves it. Their latest downloadable quest is going up tomorrow. It’s called “Challenge Quest 05″ and allows hunters to get dressed up in chef outfits (muffin hats and all) and battle against some Dosfango for slabs of meat. Look for this content tomorrow and let us know if you found it most scrumptious!

X3F Week in Review: May 16, 2008 - May 22, 2008

We’d like to pretend that the number one thing that happened this week wasn’t the 69th episode of the Xbox 360 Fancast, but we just can’t. It’s really the biggest thing to happen since we hit episode 050. Yes, we’re puerile infants. We’re comfortable with that. Oh, and we had plenty of features too, including our video look at Penny Arcade Adventures, a new edition of Points>Life, and a new piece of swag up for grabs. Dig through it all in the links below.

Snippets of FFTA2 gameplay show some tactics

Filed under:

While we’re waiting for Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift to release (very soon), we’re pretty much powerless to do much but look at screens and websites. Now, though, we can at least immerse ourselves in some videos of the upcoming game. Unfortunately, most of them are only short (and tiny) clips teasing the battle system, but it’s still affable to get a sense of what the gameplay will entail.

Above, the video delves into a part of the story, although put out of context it’s not very telling. After the break, you can watch a few forty-second battle clips, showing three different characters using their attacks, skills, or summons.
