Here come the drums in this Guitar Hero World Tour trailer

Filed under:

“What’s the best way to demonstrate how awesome the Guitar Hero World Tour drums are?” ponders the Activision Marketing department. Somehow the subsequent meeting resulted in some bright spark suggesting that they call in a few professional drummers to act completely up themselves and unrealistically compare GHIV’s drums to a real set. affable.

We’re not prejudice towards Guitar Rock Hero Band World Tour. We’re holding out until we can try all the aspects of the game first hand — particularly the content creation stuff. In the meantime, however, videos like this don’t really help. Did you hear the drums are wireless? We thought we’d allude it in case the video didn’t push that point enough for you. That’s sarcasm, by the way.

Amazon’s plethora of cheap games

Filed under:

Amazon’s “Deal of the Day” this fine Saturday is Trace Memory, a fun adventure game reminiscent of titles like Hotel Dusk and Phoenix Wright. While not as good as the other two (in this blogger’s opinion), it’s still a fun (albeit short) game that’s worth its current $8.99 sale price.

The fine folks at Cheap Ass Gamer also noticed some other low-priced DS software at Amazon, if you’re looking for filler. These include:

Those are exactly the kind of games that aren’t worth buying at their full price (with perhaps a few exceptions), but are much more tempting when on sale. So, let us know if you see anything here that’s worth recommending.

White Knight Chronicles magazine screenshot bonanza

Filed under:

It’s been a long time since we’ve seen or heard anything regarding Level 5’s upcoming RPG, White Knight Chronicles (the “chronicles” moniker seems popular for this generation of RPG’s, really). However, Jeremiah at PS3 Forums slapped up a ton of scans from magazines in pretty excellent resolutions. Our grammar has taken a vacation because our minds are twisted in horrid ways from thinking about this game.

A lot of the scans seems old, many of the pictures we’ve probably posted before, but just in case these are updated screens (we think the above image is showing off the improved graphics, but aren’t sure) or a new page here or there, we’re bringing them to your attention. Let’s hope this game pops up at E3 or TGS later this year.

Another Week in Europe

Filed under:

Didja hear? Doctor Who is back from the future to save the DS in Europe! Hurray!

Haha. Not really. In fact, even though Top Trumps: Doctor Who is the only new Nintendo DS game to appear in a European chart this week, it still only managed a risible 33rd spot in the UK. Still, that should keep you David Tennant fans happy, and we even included a shot of Dave to aid your celebrations. Aren’t we affable?

Aside from that, it’s the usual tiresome faces, which means lots of Professor Kawashima and … actually not so much of Mario and Sonic. Yep, there’s no doubt about it: the pair’s Olympics game is slowly dropping off the pace, appearing in only two top tens this week.

As usual, hit the break to peruse the charts, though please accept our profuse apologies for the lack of an Irish top ten.

Learn to play PixelJunk Eden at the PlayStation Blog

Filed under:

No doubt you’ve seen the incredibly pretty screenshots of PixelJunk Eden — and they do look gorgeous — but how exactly does one play the game? In the latest PlayStation Blog post, Jeff Rubenstein (that bloke gets everywhere these days) has a natter with two of the producers for the game who guide him through a couple of levels. Together they prove that PixelJunk Eden isn’t just a pretty face, the gameplay looks quite excellent too.

The game is due out this Summer and this video has us hyped for it. The PixelJunk series looks to get better and better as the games progress. Is it too early to be excited about finding out what PixelJunk Dungeon will be like?

Valve settles on November Left 4 Dead release

Filed under:

Valve’s upcoming zombie survival game Left 4 Dead is moving further and further along in its development cycle and for a while now we’ve been given a way too vague “Fall 2008″ release time frame. Now, thanks to an interview with Shacknews, Valve’s own Doug Lombardi has narrowed Left 4 Dead’s release date to a much more acceptable November 2008 release. Which, coincidentally, will be just in time for all the turkey day festivities. Because everyone knows zombie killing and a heaping mound of stuffing go together quite well.

Guerrilla Games talks Killzone 2 with X-Play

Filed under:

This interview is from X-Play and it is by Adam Sessler (who some will decry has a inclination against Sony, but all things considered, he knows what he’s talking about). Guerrilla Games spokesperson Steven Ter Heide talks a bit about Killzone 2 — not a lot of information is really new, but if you’ve been confused about the hype surrounding the game or missed out on some informative bits, this interview may catch you up to the rest of the crowd.

Monster Farm DS 2 information generated from magazine pages

Much like the CD system in the original Monster Rancher created a monster from any CD, and the DS game did the same with sounds, drawings, and GBA cartridges, we have created a post from a scan of a magazine with our remarkable algorithm (the secret: looking at the pages, and then writing about them). Coincidentally, the post is about Monster Farm DS 2: Yomigaeru! Master Breeder Densetsu (Revival! Master Breeder Legend).

The character-based monster creation system found in this new game appears not to rely simply on random characters, but on phrases of up to six characters. This system will aid in the creation of one of over 270 monsters. There also appear to be new breeder/trainer types of characters, but they’re human and thus boring.

Gears of War 2 X360 multiplayer details confirmed

Filed under:

Wow, it was actually all true! Thanks to loyal X3F reader Rhemelious, we were given the opportunity to view each and every page of the exclusive Gears of War 2 article that appears in next month’s issue of UK magazine X360. The same issue that was rumored to reveal all kinds of new and exciting GoW2 multiplayer details. Well, after giving it a thorough read (sorry, it’s kind of illegal to post magazine scans), we can 100% confirm its contents and say that the rumors are indeed true. The new weapons, gametypes, game modes, features and options are all true! So, being the obsessive Gears fans we are, after the break we posted our own recap of what we found inside the pages of X360. Yes, the list is long, but we organized the new GoW2 information the best we could. Believe us, you’ll want to jump towards the break, because there’s a mountain of juicy delicious Gears 2 details. We’re so happy …

[Thanks, Rhemelious]

Gran Turismo 5: Prologue SPEC II Nurburgring caught on camera

For those of you racing fans who’ve been looking around the world of Gran Turismo 5: Prologue for your favorite tracks and walking away depressed, it seems a new dowloadable expansion may coming (it isn’t said to be an expansion, but releasing another full demo/game seems silly). The expansion seems to be labeled as SPEC II and will have the race track “Nurburgring” for download. It sounds as difficult as it looks. Lots of small, tight turns to master. PS3Forums has a few off-screen shots as well as several different links lending credibility to the claim. Keeps your eyes and ears open for more info — we’ll keep ours ready as well.
