The DS Life: Going out to eat

Filed under:

Have you ever gone out to a restaurant for dinner with a group of friends, only to find yourself completely uninterested with your company’s conversation, their tired stories and trivial grievances?

Your eyes drift to nearby tables, hoping to find something else that better deserves your attention. You chew on the ice cubes in your drink, crunching out the chatter around you. You nod your head absentmindedly to agree with your companions whilst reflecting on the reality television shows you plan to watch when you get home — “I wonder if Greg is gonna knock out that sucka Will for kissing his girl?”

When you’re stuck in situations like this, don’t you wish you could just pull out your Nintendo DS until someone brings out the food?

Army of Two map pack delayed for Americans

Okay, stay with us for this one. Remember that Veteran Map Pack for Army of Two that’s due out tomorrow? It’s been delayed. At least, it has in America. In a strange twist of fate Europeans will see it arrive on the PSN Store tomorrow as planned while their cousins across the pond will have to wait a while before getting their hands on it. There’s no word on when it will be available in America, but hopefully it should be up next week. Maybe.

For more info on what the map pack contains, check out our post from earlier today.

We’re learning to like the idea of Imagine Teacher

Filed under:

During their Ubidays press event, Ubisoft unveiled a new entry in their infamous Imagine series of games that someone guessed girls might like (based on what girls on TV seem to enjoy or something). Imagine Teacher trains girls to … well, train children, using, of course, a series of teaching-themed minigames.

The game traces an elementary school teacher’s job duties chronologically, starting with lesson planning and seating charts, and progressing to individual lessons. Each subject’s lesson is presented as a minigame, followed by another minigame in which you grade your students’ work. The day ends with classroom cleanup and parent-teacher conferences.

We’re trying our hardest to hate this, but the truth is that Imagine Teacher sounds irresistably clever, and we would really like to play it. Pretty embarrassing, but there, we said it.

Rabbids to return to DS, may even get noticed

Filed under:

Despite the fact that the first two games appeared on the DS, the Rayman Raving Rabbids series has always been more closely associated with the Wii, either because the original was a Wii launch game, or because the DS iterations are pretty mediocre.

Now, the involvement of the Balance Board is threatening to relegate the DS edition of Rayman Raving Rabbids TV Party to an even more insignificant footnote, but we hope the DS game stands on its own. The Rabbids are liked by pretty much everybody we know, and deserve a worthy handheld game. Protip though, Ubisoft: it’s probably best to ignore this kind of publicity.

Shaun White Snowboarding teaser lets you conquer fear … and catchy songs

Filed under:

We might not be in Paris for Ubidays, but we can get a taste of Ubi-ness with this teaser trailer for Shaun White Snowboarding. It’s the next best thing, right? Anyway, enjoy the trailer with some breath-taking scenery being tackled by some risk-taking young bloods. Also, try not to get that Mooney Suzuki song stuck in your head … it’s quite infectious, especially after hearing it off that old Grand Vitara Sports SUV commercial for about a billion times. The game comes out Winter 2008.

[Thanks Ryan!]

SouthPeak announces Brave: Shaman’s Challenge

Filed under:

Aside from Mister Slime, Big Bang Mini, and Ninjatown, SouthPeak is working on yet another unreleased game called Brave: Shaman’s Challenge. This particular title is a puzzle game with a Native American theme and setting — in fact, it even takes place in a land called “Native America.” Following a boy named Brave who is trying to protect what he holds dear, this puzzler is also meant to have a deep and complex storyline.

Unfortunately, with the announcement of the game SouthPeak didn’t embellish on what kind of gameplay Shaman’s Challenge will entail, so it’s hard to tell whether or not this title is something to look forward to. In any case, we’ll keep our eye on this supposedly intricate game.

Crook nabs 360, replaces with original Xbox

Filed under:

We’ve covered our fair share of Xbox thievery stories in the past, but this one is different. In this case, the criminal involved seems to have a particularly evil sense of humor. An Xbox 360 was stolen from a hall government member at Northwestern University in Illinois. According to the victim, the 360 was locked in a closet on May 11. The victim realized the crime had been committed when he opened the closet on May 22 — still locked — to find the 360 had been replaced with the original (and decidedly less svelte) Xbox 1.

We’re certainly not condoning the crime — we hope the thief is caught and the 360 returned — but we have to admit that is one helluva burn.

Would You Rather … Shipping Now Edition

In our continuing effort to bring you fresh and interesting content, X3F presents Would You Rather … a weekly feature that asks you the hard questions. The point? If you had to choose one or the other, which would you go for?

This week in Would You Rather we’re taking a look back at Microsoft Game Studios’ 2008 Yearbook and wishing for a miracle. For a miracle to come. While the lineup looks rad, we’re upset at the lack of info (or date!) for Alan Wake and Peter Jackson’s mysterious Halo project.

So we got to thinking, if you had to pick one of them to hit store shelves this year which would you choose? The brand new IP from Remedy, Alan Wake or the “revolutionary” Peter Jackson Halo game?

View Poll

Feel free to share the reasons for your vote in the comments. We’ll share the results of the poll during the next edition of Would You Rather … which hits X3F every Wednesday.

Last weeks WUR results can be find after the jump … come in and check it out for free!

Rock Band rekindles relationship

Filed under:

The tale of a spouse who pays more attention to a hobby than a distinctive other is an old one. Just what that hobby is has changed over the years. Be it watching sports, spending too much time at the office, or playing too many video games, it’s a tale as old as time. It’s amazing then, that in Rachel Shukert’s case, video games actually saved a marriage. The particular game in question is Rock Band, which pulled her husband away from solitary first person shooters and brought the two together on the rise to virtual stardom. It’s really a touching story with a sound moral: all marital problems can be solved with Rock Band. Just try not to fight over who gets to play which instrument.

Bionic Commando Rearmed not reporting for May, delayed

Filed under:

So apparently Bionic Commando Rearmed won’t be making it in time for its previously announced May release. As patched in to us via the official website’s Communicator, the team working on the game has “run into a few problems in the closing stages.” Despite this, the game is done. There are just a few things that need to be corrected before it’s good to go. When exactly will the game be ready for deployment? We don’t know, but we’re assuming it won’t be too long.
