80GB MotorStorm packs discontinued

Filed under:

File this under the “no duh” classification. The current 80GB pack, which includes a SIXAXIS controller, 80GB PS3 system and a copy of MotorStorm is no longer being sent to retailers. “Retailers aren’t getting any new inventory of the 80GB Motorstorm bundle,” a Sony rep told Joystiq. However, on June 12th, the 80GB PS3 bundle will be replaced by the much more attractive Metal Gear Solid 4 bundle. For the same price, purchasers will get a rumble-ready DualShock 3 controller and a copy of the biggest game of the year forever. That’s a pretty sweet deal.

Ninja Gaiden II NA demo by ‘the end of next week’

For those of you patient enough to wait, Major Nelson tipped gamers off to news that the Ninja Gaiden II demo should be hitting Xbox Live Marketplace by the end of next week. “Looking for the NG 2 Demo? I am told that it will be available by the end of next week,” reads Major’s Twitter page.

The demo, which was released today on the Japanese Marketplace, features two levels one division from the upcoming game and showcases some of the various ways players will be able to cut dudes into bits-n-pieces.

Until then make sure to check out X3F TV where we dissect, no pun intended, the demo for the anticipated action title.

Update: The demo is actually the same as the Japanese release and features only one division, not two levels.

HAWX gets voice control options

Not to be outdone by EndWar’s fancy gesture controls, Tom Clancy’s HAWX will feature a voice control option, allowing you to squawk commands to your squad mid-dogfight.

Eurogamer learned of the feature during UbiDays, but was unable to get further clarification. According to Eurogamer, an Ubisoft representative also discussed the game’s two-player cooperative mode, with a promise of more multiplayer details as the holiday 2008 release approaches. This is where we’d make Top Gun references if we knew any.

Let’s all chip in and buy Karthik Bala a copy of Ouendan

Earlier today, we pointed you in the direction of Joystiq’s hands-on impressions of Guitar Hero: On Tour, itself on tour as various websites tried the game out for themselves.

One of those sites was ShackNews, which also got to speak to Vicarious Visions CEO Karthik Bala. And we had only just started reading when one of Bala’s opening statements got our blood boiling: apparently, Guitar Hero: On Tour was developed to “see if it was even possible to do a really good music rhythm game on a handheld.”

Altogether now: “WHAAAAAT?!

We can only assume that Bala is totally unaware of the vast treasure trove of rhythm-based awesomeness already available on the DS — never mind what is still to come, or even on other handhelds.

X3F TV — X3F Impressions: Ninja Gaiden II demo

Filed under:

Don’t ask us how, but we managed to lay our hands on the coveted Ninja Gaiden II demo today. Sure, we could have used it solely for selfish purposes. We could have kept it to ourselves to play over and over again (which, come to think of it, we already have). But no! Rather than hog the demo, we’ve encapsulated our impressions in a new episode of X3F TV. Check out our impressions in the video above (hint: Ninja Gaiden fans will be pleased).

Rumor: Konami asking reviewers to exclude things from Metal Gear reviews?

Filed under:

It’s just a rumor, but we thought it would be interesting to see if anyone else had noticed what MTV Multiplayer has been made aware of. Sure, initial Metal Gear Solid 4 reviews are glowing, but did Konami have a hand in limiting what could be said about the game?

Apparently, Konami has asked initial reviews to neglect mentioning install times and cut scene length when grading the title. Probably out of fear they would be seen as negatives and detract from the game’s score. But some reviews mentioned them anyway. An install time would probably detract from the score slightly, but cut scene length is really more of the reviewer’s opinion anyway.

If we could sit through the Xenosaga titles, we’re sure MGS4 will be easy enough to handle. Then again, if you’re used to Counterstrike, it might be rather irritating. Who knows if this is true or not, but when you’re reading reviews for the game over the next few weeks, keep your eyes peeled for mentions of install times and cut scene lengths.

Community Content: Docking Station Edition

Each week, X3F showcases the best in Halo 3 downloads with Community Content. To find out how to set up your Bungie.net account, click here. Submit your own ideas at: comcon [AT] xbox360fanboy [DOT] com

This week on Community Content we bring you a giant space ship in the sky! Again. While it might sound like the same thing, it’s considerably different. In OberionTheGreat an attacking crew begins with normal weapons and a few extra vehicles and must infiltrate the docked ship in order to capture their flag and score one for the people of the planet.

Add to this a barrage of fusion cores (which I kept calling coils in the video, cuz I’m awesome) and a few hidden surprises and this one could turn out to be another icy trip into a space siege. Check it out and make sure to email your suggestions to COMCON [at] xbox360fanboy [dot] com.

Friday Video: Way too easy

Filed under:

We know it’s called the “Easyway Method” and all, but this video of Allen Carr’s Easyway Method to Stop Smoking makes the process seem a bit too simple. You just play a minigame that illustrates how disgusting the components of cigarettes are, and then you’re free from all desire to smoke? Really? All it takes to be put on the “Path to Freedom” is to be told you don’t actually like smoking? We’ll save you some money — SMOKING IS BAD FOR YOU AND EXPENSIVE. Congratulations! You just quit smorking. Maybe they skipped a few steps, like the step in which the game gives you some effective motivation or encouragement.

We must say that we are glad to see the line-art style from My Weight Loss Coach return for another training game.

Yep, Shiki-tei is indeed a garden simulator for the PS3

Don’t be confused by our snarky subject line. The garden simulator for the PS3, titled Shiki-tei (four seasons garden), goes on sale on the PlayStation Network at the end of June for approximately 1,600 yen. It probably won’t abandon Japan, but just in case we’ll tell you a little about it.

You plant a garden. It’s a very relaxing game where you can plant flowers, trees, place stones and more until you get your perfect garden to stare at and relax with. When it’s finished, you can watch cherry blossoms fall and listen to whatever music you’ve got on the PS3. It’s basically a “Create-Your-Own” music visualizer.

You can also snap pictures of your garden and share them with friends. Garden trading card game? Bring it on. There will probably be add-on items to purchase for the game, but as SiliconEra put it, this would benefit more as an expansion to the apartment creation aspect of PlayStation Home.

Video Marketplace Weekly: There Will Be edition

We’ve finally gotten our act together and are bringing you this very Friday edition of Video Marketplace Weekly to get you in the mood for a weekend full of lazy XBVM movie rentals. Usually we talk a quick and dirty recap about what new movies became available this past week, but this time there really is no need. There isn’t a need because one movie rental is all you should care about. There Will Be Blood. This film is a masterpiece, a Daniel Day Lewis epic and true actor’s acting movie that will knock you down only to stand you back up and knock you over once again. There Will Be Blood is a must see. And know that you’re getting your downloading money’s worth too, because the HD version clocks in at a ginormous 7.2GB in file size, where every MB is worth the wait. Go. Rent. Now.
