Remember that haaauuuuge list of Japan’s 500 highest-selling games of 2007? Well, sorry, but you’ll have to forget them all. Yep, every last one of ‘em. Yes, we know you memorized them, but now have a new list which is also claiming to feature the 500 best-selling games of 2007 in Japan. This one has been compiled by Enterbrain (the original was from rival data-gatherers Media Create), and it’s ever so slightly different.
The good news is that, despite the origins of each list being different, the overriding message is still the same, and that message is: DS rules all yaaay. Both lists agree that Wii Sports was top dog, but the top DS games have been jumbled about. Now, for example, it is the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Explorers games that are top of the DS pile, while Mario Party DS drops to second. The changes are subtle, but definitely exist. Hit the break to see the top ten DS games!

We know getting our hopes up about a “book turned movie turned video game” always ends disastrously, but this time we really can’t help ourselves. Perhaps it’s because the software in question is inspired by one of our favorite writers, Neil Gaiman (the genius behind Neverwhere and The Sandman, to name a few).
Based on his novella Coraline (which is being made into an animated 3D film this February), the game is a multi-platform “surrealistic adventure” developed by D3. The story revolves around a young girl who enters a parallel universe that’s like her own, only more fantastical.
There’s no definitive date for this title (only Q1 2009), but we’d expect it to come out near the movie’s release.

It’s not even released outside of Japan yet, but Nippon Ichi has been steadily planning Disgaea 3 expansions for consumption. While these updates and such may just be for Japan, it’s likely we’ll either see them incorporated into our game from the start or will see them on the PlayStation Store shortly after the game is localized. Anyway, starting June 27, there will be one pack per month until January of 2009 — contents vary. In June, a new character will be available and sometime in Winter, new scenarios will open up. These aren’t free, but only cost the Japanese fans 100 yen per pack. We’ll find out in August what’ll become of these updates outside of Japan.

Hey, you. Yeah, you reading this right now. Do you want River City Ransom EX sealed for $17? If you’re ready to say anything but “yes,” we kindly ask that you close your browser window, call your mother and apologize for being such a disappointment.
If for some reason you’re not clever on the game and still administer to have a working brain (or, you know, you already own it), there’s plenty of other Game Boy and Game Boy Advance games on bid. It’s a affable mixture of great first-party and third-party titles, if we may say so. You know, in case you wanted to bulk up your GBA collection.

In order to make up for yesterday’s failed attempt to play Team Fortress 2 due to game crashes, we’re throwing down in a little Halo 3 action tonight starting at 9:30PM EST! Unfortunately not everyone will be available to play but those of us that bring you the news you crave (and some you don’t) will be partying up for some custom game action.
As usual add X3FLIVE to your friends list and use the Friends of Friends feature to track down Richard (SenseiRam), Dustin (SuperDunners), Alexander (Sli Xander) and/or Xav (Snypz) and try to jump into an open session. Anyone start a “Save Terrence’s Internets” petition yet?
If you can’t get X3FLIVE on your friends list and really want to jump in with us, send Xav (Gamertag: Snypz) a message over Xbox Live requesting an invite and we’ll send one your way sometime throughout the night.

Atari was pretty close to scrapping the Alone in the Dark game when it was in the beginning stages of development. We all know the game is done now (albeit still vague on the PS3 version’s release), so that didn’t happen. But why was it almost canned? Atari dismissed the original concepts as pitched by the game’s director, David Nadal, calling them “too ambitious”. You can hear more from Nadal regarding the game and how much he loves the series over at CVG, but we just want to know when we can get in on the action. The PS3 version is set for a Fall release while the 360 gets it this Friday.

While Nintendo is busy hampering the momentum of homebrew developers on the Wii, it’s business as usual for the scene with the Nintendo DS. Programmer T4ils has put out an update for StillAliveDS, his popular 2D remake of Valve’s first-person action/puzzler, Portal.
In addition to general improvements and bug fixes, the indie game now features an in-game level editor! The video above (which demonstrates the Java editor) demonstrates how easy it is to lay out and test your own stage. After you’ve saved your map, you can even upload it to the online Custom Game Directory from your DS!
It’s strange to see a homebrew title implementing such a relatively advanced feature (for the DS) that only a few commercial games support — Picross DS, Advance Wars: Days of Ruin, Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis, N+, Steal Princess, and Bangai-O (sort of). If you have the tools mandatory for loading homebrew games on your DS, you should be playing this!

Not content with pitting PSP systems in a battle royale, IGN PSP has created some loving fanfiction for the PSP. It imagines the “greatest E3 press conference” ever. In their imaginary E3, Jack Tretton goes on stage during the E3 keynote: “Last year, we introduced the PSP Slim and sales shot through the roof,” he says with a grin. “This year, we’re done screwing around.”
There on out, a slew of megaton announcements would come. In-game XMB (coming soon to PS3!), downloadable games direct to PSP (a promised feature), downloadable music and movies from the PLAYSTATION Store, tons of PS1 downloadables (such as Metal Gear Solid, Vagrant Story). Oh, and the announcement of games like Patapon 2, the next Syphon Filter and a brand new Vib-Ribbon.
Of course, this is but a dream — but it’s a dream we can all share. Definitely check out IGN for a so-bad-it’s-good Photoshop of Phil Harrison crying.

Someone quick remind the lightning pace of the internet what Team Fortress 2 is. Awesome is what it is, and doubly awesome is another video introduction to one of the many classes in the popular shooter. Sure, playing it online could be problematic but the cold hard fact is that Valve’s character portraits put a smile on our face and a swing in our step.
Allow us to help introduce the Sniper. Not the cold-hearted killer you might think he is, this professional assassin is governed by a set of strict rules atop his comfy camping chair–but unfortunately his parents do not approve.
