Good job CVG! You guessed Sony’s mysterious game correctly! A few days ago, a mysterious countdown appeared, featuring retro art reminiscent of the PSP exclusive Yuusha no Kuse ni Namaikida. Looks like the “or2″ mysterious referenced on the site is the name for the sequel. The original Yuusha had players in a retro universe, taking down heroes with their minion horde. The sequel to this surprising cult hit promises more monsters and more heroes.
Senior producer Masami Yamamoto explained to Weekly Famitsu magazine (via 1UP). “A lot of gamers just wanted more to play with, so volume was the first thing. Also, since there were fewer stages in the first game, some of them had a challenge level that was far more of an uphill battle for the player than previous stages. With more stages at our disposal, we wanted to be sure we smoothed that over and gradually increased the challenge instead.”

A couple more Interplay titles return to GameTap this week, but the really affable addition is that of Civilization IV’s expansion Warlords. The expansion added several new elements to the excellent turn-based strategy game like the Great General unit, vassal states and unique buildings for each nation.
- Civilization IV: Warlords (Windows) - The expansion to Civ IV. There are also several scenarios in Warlords to try out if you’re not looking for the full-blown world conquering experience.
- Descent 3 (Windows) - Shoot everything in 360 degrees of blasting awesomeness for a third time.
- American Deer Hunting (Windows) - PETA will thank you for playing this game instead of being a real man and killing yourself a big ol’ buck.
GameTap’s free games list gets several new additions this week. We’ve placed the full list after the break and bolded the new titles for easy reference.

Perhaps it’s the bright lights, but something about neon signs just interests us. No, it’s not the science of it all (it’s actually gas in there!), but the … yeah, bright lights. Hey, look, a bright sign!
If the neon Nintendo sign doesn’t interest you, then there are other Nintendo-related auctions today. There’s a Mario statue and some test cartridges up for grabs, as well.

One thing we’ve learned while playing Arkanoid DS — it’s difficult to break blocks and eat at the same time. The man in the video above seems to have it all figured out, though. While this still might not be as fun as playing with the imported paddle, at least you’ll have an easier time multitasking.
File this one under “another crazy video from Japan.”

We don’t really know why we’re sharing this because we thought perhaps putting in our pre-order first and securing a copy for ourselves would be a wise choice before sharing the scoop. But, we’ve got an obligation to you dear readers and we wouldn’t do that to you. If you haven’t picked up a copy of Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth (a PSP port of the PSOne classic) then now would be a good time.
Online retailer GameQuest Direct has exclusively grabbed reprinted copies of the game and is selling them at 30 bucks. The games will ship June 27, so there’s really no reason to hesitate. Go pre-order.

The first DLC for Disgaea 3: Absence of Justice in Japan was released back in April for free, but now Siliconera is reporting that the next DLC pack will cost 100 yen (about $1 US) and will feature Adell and Rozalin from the previous Disgaea game on the PS2 as extra characters. The pack will also include a PlayStation 3 theme illustrated by Haruda Takehito, the character designer from the Disgaea series. Also announced are a summer/fall pack which will feature a new ranking system and a winter pack which will feature new scenarios.
Considering the folks in Hong Kong are paying $1 US just for a theme, $1 seems negligible if you enjoy the game. When is Laharl going to be avaliable?

We were bowled over by the
last batch of sprite/real-life art we posted, but this new material, from DeviantARTist RETROnoob (who, at just 16, has a more impressive grip on Photoshop than
most of us supposed grown-ups) takes the
biscuit whole biscuit tin whole damn biscuit aisle. As we mentioned last time, this is pretty much what our daydreams look like, and we expect yours also. Yes, they do. Admit it! You’re a bit odd too!
Ha!
Advance Wars, Yoshi’s Island, Donkey Kong, Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario Kart: they’re all here, as well as many more at RETROnoob’s gallery. And here’s the really, really important bit — they come in wallpaper dimensions (or 1024 x 768, at least). Head past the break for more.

Did you download Novastrike? It’s PSN’s first self-published game from independent studio Tiki Games. The game got a rough start when it released a few weeks ago, but after listening to player feedback, the developers are going to adjust the game and make it even more accessible to the masses. The biggest complaint with the title appears to be the relentless difficulty: “These modes were meant to be along the lines of informal, normal, and hard difficulty. Based on responses we’ve seen so far it looks like we ended up with something more like hard, harder, and hardest. Umm, oops?”
A new update, planned for August, will not only rebalance the difficulty to make it feasible for mortals, it will also give fully customizable controls, a new fine-aim mode for weapons, and a larger player ship to make it easier to see the action. Most excitingly, PSN trophies will also be supported (with fifteen being added to the game).
Once these tweaks are done, the patch will be made available for all that purchased the game already. In addition, this newly updated version of Novastrike will be made available for European gamers as well. We’re rooting for you, Tiki Games — as an independent developer exclusively supporting PlayStation, we certainly commend your efforts.
