As it did with My Word Coach, Ubisoft sees a lot of potential in My Weight Loss Coach (My Health Coach in Europe), putting enough money behind the nutrition and fitness trainer’s marketing allot to support several print and television advertising campaigns worldwide. The publisher has timed the title’s release and its promotional push perfectly, too, riding the exercise-game wave set in motion by Wii Fit.
In this edition of Promotional Consideration, we look at several of those My Weight Loss Coach advertisements to pick out the goofy details and voice our trivial complaints. Eat a light lunch, run up a flight of steps, and meet us after the break for the ads!

The Poll Police want to check on something this week since all squad members at HQ (being we, the bloggers) did not have any issues with the 2.40 firmware update. Was the faulty firmware widespread, or limited to enough people that it was a minor issue, but the internet was set on fire anyway because it’s fun to rain on somebody’s parade? That’s probably a loaded question, so let’s reword that in the form of a poll.
As noted earlier, none of us had any issues with it and it’ll be interesting to see just how many of you intrepid readers have experienced whatever negative issues came with the firmware. What about the results from our last poll? Check ‘em out after the ‘continue reading’ cut below.

Now, for most of you, this week’s Batman releases are what you are more accustomed to. You can bet Warner Bros. will churn out as much Batman as possible before Dark Knight. Really, we just saw a Dark Knight tie-in with Comcast cable service. That’s right, cable service. Here are the rest of this week’s Blu-ray releases:
First up, we’ve got Batman Begins on Blu-ray. Unfortunately there aren’t any new extras except for a Dark Knight prologue in HD. The limited edition includes Hollywood Movie Money which takes $7.50 off your movie ticket for Dark Knight and some art/comic books. Batman: Gotham Knight is the Animatrix-esque prelude for the current Batman franchise. Featuring five directors, five stories and voicework by Kevin Conroy, this is a must-have if you are a Batman fan. The Blu-ray release even includes 4 episodes from Batman: The Animated Series. The Ruins is actually not a terrible movie, as it follows in the footsteps of recent horror flicks like Cabin Fever, but we would wait till the price goes down a bit.

Think about this for a moment. Preparation for an evening long session of Halo 3 could have included snacks, beverages, console, game disc and a stereoscopic 3D display. According to a July 3 interview with GamesIndustry.biz, XNA’s general manager, Chris Satchell, said Microsoft considered the tech for console gaming.
In an excerpt from the interview, Satchell revealed that Microsoft actually looked into using stereoscopic technology (seen in the upcoming Ubisoft game Avatar and Texas Instruments’ upcoming DualView TV) for gaming. Ultimately it was determined the need for special glasses made the idea impractical. “I think it is hard to be mainstream with asking people to wear headgear to play games,” he said. We’d prefer the headgear above, thank you.
While technology is being developed to overcome some original obstacles for stereoscopic displays, Satchell believes the possibility of the tech is, “very interesting.” As Joystiq pointed out, we’re officially one step closer to the “Holodeck,” people! Awesome?

When Shotest Shogi and Basement Pool were originally announced, we were a bit hard on the latter and quite welcoming to the former. Well thanks to that delisting process that Microsoft unveiled not too long ago, Basement Pool is going to be seeing a bit of a delay. Posting on the Indiegamer boards, Paul Johnson of Rubicon said that while the game is a pet project of his that will likely never really die, Rubicon is waiting for Bankshot Billiards to be retired before releasing Basement Pool to XBLA.
And hey, as for Shotest Shogi, after a bit of a certification debacle, it’s finally passed and it’s only up to Microsoft when it goes live. For those unfamiliar with the concept, Shogi is a harder, deeper, and more complex version of chess. Thankfully Rubicon professes to have spent an inordinate amount of time on a tutorial mode, meaning that anyone who’d like to deepen their strategic thinking a bit should be able to find some enjoyment here.

Gainax, an anime studio best known for the anime Neo Genesis Evangelion, is going to be publishing something wholly different this fall on the PSP. Princess Maker 5, which was released on the PS2 in Japan last year, will be getting a port to the PSP. In all the Princess Maker games, you play as a man who adopts a daughter that you must raise. In this current incarnation the player raises a girl of royal heritage who is a candidate to become princess. He protects her after the other candidates for princess are killed and she is the next apparent target. The fifth game in the series will feature a modern setting, as opposed to a period setting in past games. For the first time you may also play as a mother to the girl. The game will be released on September 25th in Japan.

Just so you know, the FREE Bungie Day 2008 theme and gamer picture pack are now available for download off the Xbox Live Marketplace. W00tacular! And no, your calendar is not misinforming you. The downloads are available a day early (tomorrow, July 7th is officially Bungie Day), but that just allows us to celebrate 48 hours of Bungie Day(s). You’ll have to wait for Cold Storage though, it’ll be made available for FREE sometime tomorrow.
Also, when you download today’s free goodies, be sure to note the gamer picture pack. Not only is there a soffish, a Pimps at Sea logo and bleached white Bungie logo, but there’s one other featuring none other than the mysterious Superintendent himself! He also makes an appearance on the theme’s Games blade. What a damn cute lil’ plumber.

Though announced a while back, we now have a solid release date and details for Yu-Gi-Oh! GX Tag Force 3. To go with the pixelated video from earlier, we’ve got a few much better looking screen shots from the new Prince of Persia game. While the shots don’t exactly reveal anything new (and their origination on a message board smells a tad like viral marketing) they do reaffirm the amazing use of cel shading that the Assassin’s Creed team has been able to pull off.
The three new screens are also accompanied by a few artworks of some monsters that remind us vaguely of Ico, as well some more traditional art of the new Prince and his companion.

Not much is going on this week. North America witnesses emptiness for the second week in a row, while Europe is lapping up all the games we got from the previous month.

Japan is finally getting God of War: Chains of Olympus. Also, the sight of Nobunaga’s Ambition there makes this blogger question when will Koei ever bring a real Ambition game to the States? Nobunaga’s Ambition: Rise to Power on the PS2 doesn’t count; it’s essentially Kessen with slightly more micromanagement. Oh the questions we hardcore gamers ask sometimes …
