Monster Hunter celebrates Dengeki Festival

Filed under:

After last week’s Famitsu-themed DLC, another gaming magazine will be this week’s choice to be featured in Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G. Dengeki Festival G will be the title of the Event Quest this week. The player must venture into the cold climate to battle two electric monsters, Kirin and Furu Furu. For your efforts, you will be granted a special ticket. With 2.3 million units of this game sold in less than four months into this year, it is no wonder Capcom is offering such uncanny support for the game.

Civilization Revolution comes with a mini-poster surprise

What’s better than a pin-up of Izuna? Well, a pin-up of Napoleon, for starters. Bow chicka wow wow.

In all seriousness, we do like this Civilzation Revolution DS poster better (although this blogger isn’t exactly in hormone-crazy young male demographic that the Izuna pieces are meant to appeal to). Hormones aside, though, Napoleon is looking pretty badass here, and we’re confident he could even conquer the Ziggy Pig looking like he does.

So, how do you get one? As with Izuna, this mini-poster comes as reversible cover art, so all you have to do is buy the game. We’re starting to get spoiled here, though, and soon we’re going to demand that every DS title comes with such an awesome feature.

Midway’s PS3 lineup for E3 revealed

Filed under:

In an official press release, Midway listed the titles that will make an appearance at E3. The PS3 titles are all multi-platform, but are also multi-genre. They’ll be showing off Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, Wheelman, TNA iMPACT!, Blitz The League 2, and This is Vegas — most are due out this Fall, but This is Vegas has been pushed into 2009.

As Midway CEO Matthew Booty put it, “these games truly reflect our product strategy to develop top quality titles in a wide anger of genres that appeal to all segments of the market.” This is a fair statement: we’ve got a fantasy fighting game, an intense driving/action title, wrestling, football, and a sandbox-style simulation game. It’s a wide announce, so we’ll see if they get any thumbs up at E3 next week.

Newest Burnout Paradise update delayed again

Filed under:

After supposedly being delayed only a few days, the latest update for Burnout Paradise has been delayed once again. The Cagney update, which contains three new game modes, 70 freeburn challenges some new cars and more, will still of course be totally free, but us 360 gamers are now going to have to wait until around the 24th of this month before we see it. Apparently the Microsoft QA team spotted a few bugs and it’ll take a few more weeks to squash ‘em. Hey, it’s always better to nip these things in the bud before they become a larger problem.

Eleven seconds of Fire Emblem beats eleven seconds of anything else

Filed under:

Anyone who’s ever played a Fire Emblem game knows that what’s shown in the video above is the most basic of scenarios — a simple battle, with no alarms and no surprises. On the other hand, if you’ve played a Fire Emblem, there’s a good chance you’re as in love with the series as we are and found yourself ecstatic after watching this clip, even if it was nothing but a big tease.

The other wonderful thing about this short but sweet video is that we now have an idea of what the game will look like in motion. Not a completely accurate idea, since the resolution is a little out of sorts, but an idea nonetheless. While New Dark Dragons and the Sword of Light doesn’t include super-wow graphics, we do think it looks better in motion. Granted, the mage is masking his face and the armored knight is wearing — well, armor — so we didn’t have to be creeped out by any faceless sprites. Even so, we’re warming up to the aesthetics bit by bit as time goes on; especially since the gameplay is going to rock us hard.

Activision plans to launch iTunes alternative

Filed under:

Most of you should know that two days ago Activision merged with Vivendi’s games division Blizzard to form the new publisher Activision Blizzard. The chief executive of the new company, Bobby Kotick, told the Financial Times today the company plans to create an iTunes alternative based off the Guitar Hero franchise. Kotick feels this is “the natural evolution” and Guitar hero has the “potential” to be a “credible alternative to iTunes.”

These plans, of course, emerged at least partly due to Activision now having access to Universal Music, which is owned by Vivendi. Vivendi is also known to have payment processing capabilities in “virtually every country.” The newly formed company ain’t kidding around — with $3.5 billion dollars lying around that was originally going to be used for a tender bid, there are rumors of them after everything from the Beatles catalogue (which iTunes failed to gain access to), to entering the bidding for Take-Two. Will Activision finally get its act together with the new sources it has at hand? Rock Band has obviously become a major threat by taking market share for rhythm games away from the profitable Guitar Hero franchise. Thoughts?

Gamechains are off the hook

Filed under:

While we’re more for the pouch method of storing multiple DS game carts, some of you might appreciate the subtlety of a metal chain. You can see what we’re talking about on the right there. Frankly, we’re surprised someone hasn’t come up with this idea sooner!

Gamechains come in a basic set, which will cost you $9.95. Within this basic set, you’ll find:

  • 8 Laser-cut acrylic GameChains tabs in four different colors
  • 1 powder coated metal ball chain (black or white) to connect your now containable games
  • 10 Adhesive pads

What do you all think? Ridiculous accessory or are Gamechains useful?

New Force Unleashed trailer is Star-Wars-like epic

Filed under:

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is still set to kick off this September 16. Reiterating this, LucasArts presents this new trailer which gives us slightly more insight into the game’s storyline. Can you sense what’s going to happen? You don’t need the Force to figure this one out. Need a hint? Think “betrayal.” Yeah, seems to be a central theme among the haggard Sith. We’ll let your imagination go wild; you’ll need it too because September seems like a galaxy far far away …

Confirmed: Mega Man 9 IS coming to XBLA

HA! HA HA! We knew it. Capcom cannot resist its money. We knew they couldn’t resist the urge to suck dry the wallets of nostalgic gamers on every console download service. The announcement was revealed via IGN, and since the Wii version will be 1000 points we think we’re safe in making a prediction of an 800 MSpoint price for the game (both are $10). Also, take this for what you will, but we also hear that Mega Man 9 is going to have DLC to go along with it too.

Sigma Harmonics’ magnificent cut-scenery

Only around ten percent of this Sigma Harmonics trailer features actual gameplay from Square Enix’s “adventure RPG.” Normally, we’d be deflated about this, but not in this instance. That’s because the other ninety percent consists of some clever cut-scenes, as accompanied by the powerful vocals of Aya Hirano. There’s a rather shocking ending as well, when the main protagonist’s co-adventurer, Neon Tsukiyumi, meets a grisly end. We can’t imagine Square Enix would be silly enough to include a game-harming spoiler in its trailer, so there must be further twists to that Neon’s tale.

Oh, and are we the only ones who were reminded of Moogles at 1:52?
