Since it’s been pretty much confirmed that the 20GB 360 is going to be getting a price cut down to $299.95, we hoped that the Arcade SKU would be getting a similar price cut. In light of the rumors of a 60GB HDD SKU though, we did speculate the price drop was simply to clear shelves of the older 20GB units and that the future 60GB unit wouldn’t debut at $299.99.
While that could all still be proven wrong, as more info comes in it seems to be the most likely scenario. Thanks to a tip from our good buddies over at ps3fanboy we’ve got an advertisement from Circut City that seems to confirm that by the weekend of July 27 the Arcade unit will not have gotten a price cut. Makes you think about why someone would buy that over an HDD equipped unit at $299.99; unless of course they’ll all be off the shelves by then ….
Only time will tell, but look for E3 to clear up a lot of these uncertainties.

So earlier we posted an image found in a KMart Entertainment Guide which gave us a hint at a US greatest hits line. Now, an anonymous tipster sends word of another print ad; this time it comes from Circuit City. Our tipster points out that while the games in the image do not have the red plastic covers, the games listed are exactly the same as the ones found in the KMart ad.
What’s most interesting about this is that the same three games found in the KMart ad are getting a allot price at Circuit City starting July 27. You can tell the ad is for the week of July 27 as the full page reveals that Soulcalibur IV is “in store Tuesday.”
The games are all priced at $30. If this is related to a greatest hits list, then this seems to fit in line with Japan’s “the best” pricing which also averages around that price point as well. It would also mean that these greatest hits boxes have been in print for awhile, if they are indeed to hit stores later this month. Again, nothing is for certain yet, but we’re sure we’ll hear something about this at E3.

Here’s another Japanese simulation game aimed squarely at the female audience: Neo Angelique Special. In this port of a 2006 PS2 game, you play a pretty young woman who battles demons with the help of various pretty young males. Of course, love is in the air. A lot of love — there are ten guys shown at the official site for the anime version of Neo Angelique. For those who are interested, the game arrives in Japan on September 20th.
We can see the marketing now: Ikki Tousen for him, Neo Angelique Special for her. A agree made in PSP heaven.

Ubisoft has been a doing a pretty good job with the marketing of the new Prince of Persia game. It’s not easy to build hype by slowly doling out new screens, info and more without revealing too much or over-promising. While that sometimes means that news of the game comes in some strange forms (like speed art) they’re well done and provide some good background to the game and world the team is working on.
The above video is of an enemy called the hunter (not from Halo kids) and includes some interesting backstory too. A second speedpaint video embedded after the break is of the Prince’s female companion, Elika.

A bit of clarification recently surfaced regarding the closure of Hellgate: London and Mythos developer Flagship Studios — though we’d heard from an unnamed source that Flagship would be shutting its doors and letting go of “nearly everyone” on the payroll, Flagship community manager Taylor Balbi recently explained that the entire staff has been fired with a 30-day pension, paid for out of the pockets of the studio’s higher-ups.
The studio’s intellectual property has been turned over to two companies who had invested in Flagship throughout its short lifespan, with Mythos going to Korean gaming developer HanbitSoft, and Hellgate: London going to Comerica, a financial services company based out of Dallas. It’s expected these two companies will work together to continue Asian development for these two titles — though it’s unclear whether the uber-charming Mythos will ever hit North American shores.

Wipe away those tears, sunken-eyed PC loyalists. We know you’re upset that Firaxis appears to have turned their back on you in favor of the somewhat fairer console waters, but perhaps the latest edition of Big Versus on Joystiq’s youngest sibling, Big Download, will mend your tattered hearts. The console-exclusive Civilization Revolution is measured against the PC-exclusive Civilization IV in this installment — are PC gamers being robbed of an important chapter in the seminal turn-based strategy franchise, or are they dodging a dumbed-down, oversimplified bullet? You’ve got to read to find out — but knowing you brainy PC types, that shouldn’t be a problem.

We haven’t been too kind to Mortal Kombat VS DC Universe in the past, but we did our best to reserve final judgment, hoping that the gameplay would redeem the premise, the art design and the series background. Well, the gameplay is here and it doesn’t do the job we were quite hoping for. It’s true that there are some interesting ideas, but there seems to be a certain level of … disconnection that we can’t put our finger on. Maybe it’s the animation, the hit detection and a particular by-the-numbers flavor that the game seems to posses. Could just be us though.
