E3 Rumor: Rock Band 2 setlist includes GNR ‘Chinese Democracy’ track

The New York Times is reporting that, according to an anonymous source, tomorrow MTV Games will announce that a track from Guns N’ Roses’ ten year album in the making Chinese Democracy will be included on Rock Band 2’s setlist. No joke!

The track “Shackler’s Revenge” is the song that’s said to be a part of the game’s setlist which releases later this Fall. Funny thing is, their album Chinese Democracy doesn’t even have an official release date and is one of the most anticipated album releases ever. So, if this Rock Band 2 rumor ends up being true, this could also be proof that Axel and his jumbilation of a band could finally be releasing their album after nearly a decade in the making. We can’t wait to hear what MTV and Harmonix have to announce tomorrow.

And so it begins: New Halo Wars screens and art

With E3 beginning so soon the news is really starting to flow, and over the next few days things’ll be moving pretty fast around here. The first thing we’ve got are a few new Halo Wars screens along with a bit of concept art and info. Apparently Ensemble has worked hard to make sure to get all sorts of little things from the Halo universe into the game. We’ll be seeing Sentinels in one or more forms (with a least a single variant that aids you if you gain control over its factory), and while the developers are coy about it, it’s extremely likely the flood will show up in some fashion.

After tomorrow’s press conference there’ll likely be much, much more on Halo Wars. Including, if loose talk is to be believed, some news on a demo.

Dead Space trailer by Saw director James Wan

Filed under:

Splat Pack member James Wan is the director of the pre-E3 Dead Space trailer. The atmosphere and style of Wan’s most famous flick Saw is evident in the video, with protagonist Issac Clarke docking the spaceship USG Ishimura after a distress call only to find the crew a bit … changed. The release date is again revised; now it appears the game will be arriving on October 21st.

Blu-ray movie releases for the week of July 13th

Filed under:

Not quite as exciting as last week’s films, but here are this week’s Blu-ray releases:

Fans of Jason Statham and heist movies should check out The Bank Job. The critically-acclaimed classic One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest is finally out on Blu-ray, though fans of the movie are likely to have more than one copy of the flick already. Horror fans can take a look at Shutter, a J-horror that is a remake of a 2004 Thai film, but perhaps its more of a rental than a buy.

E3 Rumor: Geometry Wars 2 primed for surprise XBLA release this week

We have some juicy rumor news fellow Geometry Wars fanboys. According to one of Joystiq’s dependable sources, Microsoft will be making a few Geo Wars news waves as early as tomorrow morning. Specifically, we’re being told that Geometry Wars 2 will be officially announced during Microsoft’s Monday press conference AND it may even make a surprise release to the XBLA later this week. If not tomorrow. Something that isn’t all that far fetched seeing that we already have the game’s achievements as we wait for its officially unveiling. Heck, we’ll trade in Coffeetime Crosswords for some spastic Geo Wars 2 action, so make it happen Microsoft. Please make it happen.

E3: Plane landed and luggage unpacked, let’s do it!

We made it fanboys, we actually made it! After safely trekking across the country with laptops in tow and an a yearning for adventure, we’ve congregated in the Los Angeles area (home of Jamba Juice, you know) for E3 2008. To be truthful, Richard is still flying among the clouds but soon he’ll land and meetup with Dustin, combine their efforts and take on a week long journey to bring you game news, previews and original content from the E3 expo floor. Xav and Terrence will be holding down Fanboy Towers while we’re away, manning the NERF cannons if anyone should attempt to make an unauthorized visit. Get ready fanboys, X3F is attacking E3 all this week and only good can come from it.

BioShock confirmed to contain trophies and Home support

Filed under:

As reported last week, Digital Games will be assisting 2K Games in porting over BioShock to the PS3. It is now official the game will contain trophy support — Andrew Rudson, a programmer at 2K games talks about the technical challenges of implementing trophies into the title in a blog entry. Furthermore, a look at the official website of 2K games reveals the Home logo on the cover of the game. The bigger question is, could this mean Home will be ready by BioShock’s release date?

Former Diablo II dev speaks out on Diablo III

The intensity has begun to die down following Diablo III’s Parisian unveiling, giving former Blizzard North employee and Diablo II dev Michael Huang time enough to brave the cooling hellfire and speak out. On his mind are some Diablo III design choices that Huang says are “counter to the decisions the original Diablo team members would have made.”

One thing sticking in the self-professed foodie’s craw are “floating numbers” that drift above an opponent’s head in the upcoming sequel to give an arithmetic angle to the carnage, a feature that was pitched by the game’s current devs during the making of Diablo II but “refused” by Blizzard North. Another is the re-use of existing classes, including the Barbarian, a character Huang describes as the “most broken” class in Diablo II due to his unfair ability to leap. It’s interesting to see how much negativity has been poured on the upcoming sequel given what little we’ve seen, though as Huang writes that he’s already all but written off PC gaming as a whole anyway, we suggest he simply sit back and wait for the day that he’ll be able to play the game with his thumbs.

Avatar once posed an achievement challenge

Filed under:

Avatar: The Last Airbender, a game that achievement whores know oh too well. The reason being, of course, all 1000 Gamerscore can be achieved in less than five minutes. But that isn’t how it always was, oh no friends, you actually had to earn the achievements in a process that took longer than the time it takes to pop a bag of popcorn.

OXM posted photographic proof of old review code from Avatar showcasing some twenty achievements that could only be unlocked by completing levels, performing combos, etc. You know, traditional achievement unlocking stuff. But what happened to these achievements? Nobody is sure, but we don’t think anyone really cares. An easy 1000 Gamerscore is the best thing that ever happened to Avatar and its rental sales.
