Monster Hunter + ramen = a perfect agree

Japan absolutely adores cute synergistic promotions for their video games. Case in point: Monster Hunter ramen. These noodles feature the adorable mascot from the game. But, does it have any other connection to the series? Maybe there’s real dragon meat in the noodles! (Unlikely.)

PSP importers that want to expand their collection of rare gastromical Japanese delights may want to place this right next to their Final Fantasy and Monster Hunter potions. You’ll be able to find these noodles in Japan for a (slightly pricey) 420 yen.

PS3 Fanboy import hands-on: The Last Guy

Filed under:

The Last Guy is a title that has caught our eye recently, simply because it’s a game with a bizarre concept, and its developers are an equally odd bunch to say the least. Its strangeness has ensnared us, pulling us in; it’s even gone as far as making us purchase it off the Japanese PS Store — not waiting for a full English release. So we did just that, we bought the Japanese release and what we got was a delightful little surprise. Want to know how it faired? Then you know the drill, read on after the break.

Afrika or Hakuna Matata: which title is king?

Filed under:

The PS3 photography game, Afrika, will be unleashed upon the Japanese public soon. However, will it have a name change when it arrives in other territories? Perhaps. The PlayStation Asia site shows a rather different name for the game: Hakuna Matata, the phrase made popular by the Disney musical, The Lion King. (It really means “no worries.”)

To be honest, Hakuna Matata is a pretty awesome title. Should this title make its way over to the States, which would you rather prefer?

SCEA VP: PS3 native dev means better looking 360 games

Filed under:

Scott Steinberg, speaking to GamesIndustry.biz at E3, said that using the PS3 as a native development platform for games will result in subsequent ports’ “fidelity getting better and better - and in fact I think even Xbox 360 games will start to look better as a result.”

When asked about whether developers of third party titles will switch to the PS3 as the native development platform, SCEA’s Vice President of Product marketing cites Burnout Paradise as “a great example of a game that shipped fairly recently that showed what you can do if you start originally on PS3″ and that “as they accomplish that if you start on the PS3 other platforms look better, it starts to become a no-brainer.” That’s the mantra Sony’s been promoting since GDC, when they introduced PhyreEngine.

With major multiplatform titles like Dead Space and Mirror’s Edge declaring PS3 as its direct development platform, we’ll soon have points of comparison to either validate or debunk Steinberg’s statements.

[Thanks, DarkJ3JB and lee!]

Wolfenstein trailer and images are occult-tastic

Straight from QuakeCon 2008 come some piping hot Wolfenstein goodies from the upcoming game, namely the trailer and a gallery of images. It might look like The Ghostbusters Meet Hitler, or the opening scene of the first Hellboy movie, and we’re excited about the supernatural side of World War II. Thank you for that, Raiders of the Lost Ark.

This is a lot more footage than what we saw at Activision’s “Not An E3 Event” event earlier this month, and it looks like it has some potential. The paranormal parts look honorable, but why does some of it make us think of Call of Duty… 1? Hopefully we’ll get some better looks in the coming months ahead, culminating in some Halloweenalicious spooky soldiers.

You’ll still compete on the leaderboards with your friends anyway. Check out the video and find out what makes Geometry Wars 2 worth the money.

Wrath of the Lich King coming Q4 2008

After the beta announcement, we knew the hour of bewilderment was almost upon us. Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime announced in a conference call (via Shacknews) that the latest World of Warcraft expansion Wrath of the Lich King is coming this year between October or December. Morhaime actually said it was coming out this year, but “it’s not coming out in the July to September quarter,” which after hours of calculations left us certain of the Q4 2008 window.
