Sony has given PS3 gamers a sneak preview of what they can expect from the next PS3 firmware update. The update boasts a few new features but the most significant among them is the incorporation of Facebook.

Firmware update v3.10 will allow gamers to link their PlayStation Network account to their Facebook account, which will give the option to automatically update the Facebook News Feed with both Trophy and PlayStation Store activity.

The update will also enable developers to set specific criteria in their titles to publish additional game information to gamers News Feed. This will in turn allow gamers to check out their updates and their friend’s updates on Facebook, Twitter and other social media favourites using the built-in browser of the PS3.

The update will also revamp the Photo category on the XMB, making it easier for gamers to see more of the photos stored on the PS3, and the PlayStation Network Friends List will be modified. Gamers will also be able to choose a colour for their PSN ID on the XMB.

According to Eric Lempel, Director of PlayStation Network Operations, “This is just the beginning of our integration with Facebook and we are looking forward to adding new features enhancing the experience in future updates.”

Check out the video below for a preview of what you can expect in update 3.10, which is expected soon.
