You may download PC/360 Devil May Cry 4 on December 22

December 15th, 2009 at 04:45pm Under Xbox 360

Has the pernicious dealing with retail requirement kept you from the ongoing, stylish adventures of Nero and Dante (not that Dante)? Capcom has good news for those of us with no tolerance for relics like stores and boxes: starting December 22, the PC version of Devil May Cry 4 will be available for download on “the digital distribution partner of your choice,” including, of course, Capcom’s own shop, where pre-orders are being accepted for $29.99. The 360 version will hit Games on Demand, along with Lost Planet Colonies Edition, the same day.

Capcom notes that the PC version of the action game features some enhancements not found in the console versions: altered enemy placements, a “Turbo Mode,” an extra-difficult “Legendary Dark Knight Mode,” among several visual tweaks. And now, it’s enhanced with buying it from home mode!

OFLC suggests Western release for Ninety-Nine Nights 2

December 11th, 2009 at 11:15am Under Xbox 360

Konami appears to be daring enough to localize Ninety-Nine Nights 2 — which, we suppose, isn’t too much of a surprise since it showed the courage to publish the sequel to the mediocre action title in the first place. While Konami hasn’t said anything official, an OFLC rating has appeared for N32, outing at least a tentative plan to publish the game in Australia. Speculation: Konami’s not going to localize the game just for Australia.

Whether the announcement is good news or not depends on your faith in Feelplus (for whom this is the first action game) to deliver a better Dynasty Warriors-type game than Phantagram did.

Splinter Cell Conviction goes inside ‘Third Echelon’ for latest trailer

December 11th, 2009 at 10:55am Under Xbox 360

We’ve got another two months to go before the release of Splinter Cell Conviction. That’s plenty of time, it would seem, for Ubisoft to tease us relentlessly with more information and gameplay snippets, as evidenced by the latest trailer. It’s filled with a mess of information for returning Splinter Cell fans, and capped off by the realization that, “For the first time, you’ll feel what it’s like to be one of those NPCs hunted by a Splinter Cell.” And yes, that prospect looks just as terrifying as it sounds.

Brutal Legend DLC ‘Hammer of Infinite Fate’ coming Dec. 17

December 9th, 2009 at 11:00am Under Xbox 360

If you claim to love Tim Schafer, the new Brütal Legend DLC, “Hammer of Infinite Fate,” is your chance to prove it. When it arrives on Dec. 17, you’ll be able to pay the designer the ultimate tribute and carve his giant, disembodied head into Mount Rockmore. Sure, you’re still a stalker, but in a totally socially acceptable way. You’ll also get the Oculus of the Lost, a Deuce upgrade that shows every collectible on the map, as well as new outfits for Eddie and four new multiplayer maps.

The pack’s apparently going to be a bit cheaper for PlayStation 3 users, who will pay $4.99 compared to 480 MS points ($6) on Xbox 360. That might be a misprint (we’ve asked EA for confirmation), but we recall that PSN users did get the first DLC free for two weeks. Teacher’s pets.

UK Bayonetta pre-order bonuses revealed

December 1st, 2009 at 05:00pm Under Xbox 360

We’re not sure why publishers decided that purchasing a game should be more difficult, but the recent trend of retailer exclusive pre-order goodies seems to be here to stay. Case in point: the various pre-order bonuses for Bayonetta in the UK. Those who pre-order at Play.com will receive the Bayonetta Climax Edition, pictured above on the left. Meanwhile, HMV pre-orders get a “Manga’s Leading Ladies” DVD, which features “full episodes, trailers and exclusive clips” of something. Perhaps the coolest bonus, though, belongs to game.co.uk, which offers a replica of one of Bayonetta’s guns, Scarborough Fair.

All three are being offered for £39.99, so the only decision you really have to make is which bonus you like the best. Well, that and whether or not you ever want to invite a pretty girl into your home.

Famitsu: Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker strides into Japan on March 18

December 1st, 2009 at 12:30pm Under PSP

This week’s issue of Famitsu lifts the cardboard box off Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker’s release date, outing the PSP title for a March 18, 2010 release in Japan. Given Konami’s history of timely Metal Gear localizations, it might not be too long until the game reaches its excited Western audience.

We loved what we played at TGS and we’re willing to bet those of you who braved the Japanese demo likely felt the same. If you were frightened by the lack of understandable words, have no fear — an English demo is currently in the works!

Users report faulty digital copies of Assassin’s Creed: Bloodlines

November 20th, 2009 at 03:30pm Under PSP

Some of those eager to immerse themselves in Altair’s portable crusade in Assassin’s Creed: Bloodlines have allegedly been denied entry into the Animus. This has, in turn, led to animosity being expressed on Sony’s message boards and our tips line. According to complaints, the downloadable version (the game is also available on UMD) freezes during its initial loading screen, regardless of PSP model.

Based on user comments, the hobbled file originated from the European PlayStation Store and has since been bumped off — to be replaced with a working version soon, hopefully. We’ll keep an eye on things (and your comments below) while we await a response from Ubisoft.

Update: Sony has replaced the faulty download and offered replacement codes to those affected.

So you want to play the Bayonetta demo early, do you?

November 7th, 2009 at 12:00am Under Xbox 360

Sega just announced that 40,000 lucky Xbox 360 owners will get extremely early access to a demo for the upcoming action game Bayonetta. To be considered for the prize, gamers must register for a free Sega Pass — essentially the publisher’s newsletter — and enter for a chance to be selected on the official Bayonetta demo site.

Registration for the “contest” will be open from Monday, November 9 to Friday, November 13. Winners will be notified on Monday, November 16. Those not selected will then be referred to as “the group least likely to win a ‘boot-gun thing‘ firing contest” … or PlayStation 3 players. Should you not get selected, you might want to take advantage of making a Japanese account.

Stop Stress by destroying everything in new WiiWare game

November 2nd, 2009 at 03:00pm Under Wii / Nintendo

Stop Stress sounds like one of those My Coach non-games for DS: based on the title, we’d assume it would be full of relaxing exercises and tips about reducing the strain of daily life. But Abylight’s Stop Stress: A Day of Fury on WiiWare encourages its players to take their stress out on the virtual world by beating everything nearby to pieces.

Swinging the Wii Remote to control the arm of Jack, a stressed-out guy in a world that grows increasingly hostile as he gets more worked up, players use bats, axes, and other weapons to smash everything in sight. According to the ESRB description, “One mission is to ’search and destroy all the alarm-clocks’ by using a soft slipper; another mission requires players to ‘break all the windows and escape from the evil traffic jam.’”

Publisher Abylight expects to release Stop Stress this fall. Try not to get too anxious for it!

Tomena Sanner running to North American WiiWare in Q1

October 29th, 2009 at 04:15pm Under Wii / Nintendo

Konami has announced a North American release for its one-button WiiWare action game Tomena Sanner. The mobile port stars a businessman named Hitoshi Susumu who must run to an “ultimate dance party” to get there on time — and who has the terrible luck to face obstacles like chorus lines, T-Rexes, lizardmen, and Frankenstein’s Monsters.

The game uses a single button to control Susumu’s jumps, as well as attacks, basketball dunks, and whatever the situation calls for. It’s like Canabalt, but with more dancing. All the while, a running commentary on Susumu’s progress displays at the top of the screen. It also includes split screen multiplayer for up to four.

Tomena Sanner will be out, unfortunately, in Q1 2010.
