Dante’s Inferno, the upcoming action adventure game from EA and developers Visceral Games, has hit the Beta stage and the team is hard at work to ensure the game remains on track for its February release date.
That’s the latest word from the Dante’s Inferno team, who announced “That means we hit zero bugs for the first time, but we’re going to keep testing and polishing to make sure it’s as tight as it can be, and be ready to ship on Feb. 9.”

Dante’s Inferno is a game based on the literary works of Dante Alighieri and sees protagonist Dante being led down the nine circles of hell on a quest to save his beloved Beatrice. The game will be available on the Xbox 360, PS3 and PSP from the 9th of February in the US, and February 12th in Europe.

PS3 ownin’, Battlefield lovin’ gamers will soon be able to get their hands on a multiplayer beta for DICE’s upcoming Battlefield: Bad Company 2, according to a recent announcement by EA.
Starting November 19th, eager players will be able to glimpse a 24-player map going by the name of Arica Harbor, as well as sample a multitude of Bad Company 2’s vehicles, classes and weapons, while testing out the new Rush mode.
SVP of Publisher Relations at SCEA, Rob Duyer was suitably pleased with the coup, enthusing: “This is an outstanding opportunity for PlayStation gamers to get early access to one of the most action-packed and polished shooters in the marketplace with Battlefield: Bad Company 2. We’re happy to help DICE achieve their superior level of multiplayer excellence in the game.”
In order to get in on the action, North Americans will be able to get a Bad Company 2 multiplayer Beta Key by reserving the full game at either Best Buy or GameStop, while Europeans will need to keep their eyes on the official website for details.
Then, in December this year, invites will go out for the PC open beta for Bad Company 2, followed by a demo releasing early next year on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
Battlefield: Bad Company 2 releases next year on March 2nd in North America, and March 5th in Europe.

We were warned yesterday about phishers scamming folks out of personal info, promising entry into a Battlefield: Bad Company 2 beta that hadn’t even been announced. It seems they weren’t completely off the mark though, as EA told Blend Games that details about a BF:BC 2 beta would arrive this week. If you remember, GameStop recently posted — then pulled — a listing that claimed those who pre-ordered the game would receive entry into a beta starting November 19.
You know what this means, don’t you? It’s our worst fears made flesh: Online phishing scammers who can see into the future. Well, it’s been nice knowing you, civilization.

As it has done in the past, Microsoft is offering early access to its next Xbox 360 Dashboard update (which integrates Twitter, Facebook, Last.fm and Zune Marketplace) to those who sign up — and are then selected — to preview it. Major Nelson has just updated his blog with word that the signup process has begun for the program, mentioning that Microsoft is looking for “multiple thousands” of users to test out the update. So, sounds like chances of getting in are good.
Those wishing to put their names in the hat for preview access can do so by hitting the Microsoft Connect site and filling out a survey. The preview program is being offered in all territories where Xbox Live is available, but keep in mind you’ll need a Windows Live ID in order to apply. The Major says those who’ve been picked will receive an email in about a week; after which the update will be pushed out to their consoles, and they can start bragging about their early access via Twitter and Facebook right from their 360s.
If past Dashboard preview programs are anything to go by, everyone who signs up will eventually gain access just prior to the update’s release — which may happen on November 17.

Of the MMOs coming our way, the one that the most Joystiq staffers seem to be captivated by is Ragnar Tørnquist’s The Secret World, and, until now, it’s been the one that we’ve known the least about. But a little more light is finally being shed on the modern-day MMO with its three factions — Illuminati, Templars and the Dragon — being unveiled; a mere sampling of the info to come during PAX, apparently.
You can see which of the groups you fit into by taking the quiz here. It’s fun, but much more importantly, you’ll also be securing yourself a chance at beta access. For you lucky thousands at PAX, Funcom is apparently offering some Secret World-based swag at its booth, so you may want to make that one of your first stops on the show floor today.

Ubisoft’s RUSE will cunningly deploy a “VIP Beta” later this year. The beta is currently announced only for PC, and access to it can be attained by signing up on the game’s official website (while some codes were also given out at GamesCom). An Ubisoft representative told us there’s “a chance [the beta] will go public, based on how the VIP access testing goes first.”
Our hands-on time with RUSE at GamesCom was similar to our previous experience with the title, which is to say that it could be an impressive strategy game, so long as some serious work is put into making the console controls more intuitive. The game is still scheduled for Q1 2010, but with such an influx of high-profile titles during that time, we’re wondering if that official release window is just a clever ruse.

Update: Infinity Ward’s Robert Bowling has given the final word on a Modern Warfare 2 beta, saying it’s not out of the realm of possibility, but also not very likely. “While no Public Beta is currently announced we do plan on running an extensive Closed Beta among Infinity Ward, Activision, and possibly first party partners worldwide … once the internal beta is completed, if for any reason we feel we didn’t receive the feedback, address the issues, or have the result we expect, we would consider pushing forward with a public one. However at this point only an internal Closed Beta is planned.” And that’s that! … or is it?! (We’re pretty sure it is.)
We know you had a great time testing Call of Duty 4’s multiplayer component before the final game launched, so we’re sad to note CVG’s report that Modern Warfare 2 will not go the same route as its predecessor. An Activision spokesperson confirmed to the outlet that there will be no multiplayer beta for the game.
We also know that sucks, so in an effort to get Activision and developer Infinity Ward to change their minds, we’ve started this online petition. It’s bound to get their attention, right? Hello? Are you going to get a pen? It’s on the internet, you don’t need one!
[Thanks, Cr4sh Dummy]

German site PCGames got its hands … er, server on a set of screenshots purported to be from an early version of Ubisoft’s disaster game I Am Alive. The images, which originated at Unseen64, are said to come from a build of the title from when it was being worked on by Alone in the Dark dev Darkworks. (It’s since been handed over to Ubisoft Shanghai.)
The screens look plenty disaster-y in their depiction of a post-earthquake Chicago. It’s hard to make much of them, though, since they’re, y’know, just environments. Let’s hope the game’s new developer is working hard to deliver gameplay akin to what the original teaser trailer hinted at.

What’s that, Chris Cashman, host of Xbox Live’s 1 vs 100? Oh yeah, “skill-based prizes” start next week, July 10, specifically. Great! Unfortunately, though, what we heard from Mr. Cashman during tonight’s game of 1 vs 100 wasn’t all good news.
He continued, saying that while the prizes will start next week “for the mob,” the game will be staying in beta. Guess that means this isn’t part of the first “season” of prizes? We’re not so sure, but we are sure of this — given the whole fireworks thing going on this weekend, we’re probably not going to hear more news on the subject until at least Monday.
Update: Near the end of the episode, Cashman also seemed to mention that “the one” would also be eligible for “skill-based prizes.” We’re currently following up with Microsoft about getting more concrete information about the prizes, the new sweepstakes announced last night and how long the show plans to stay in beta. We’ll be sure to update as soon as we hear back.
