Super Mario Galaxy cake is out of this world

Loyal Joystiq reader Alex sent us an image of a gorgeous Super Mario Galaxy-inspired cake his wife made, and the finished product looks delicious. Made for the son of a family friend, the crafty design features Nintendo’s legendary hero mid-confrontation with his arch-enemy, Bowser.

If the cake doesn’t tickle your fancy, maybe the story behind it will. According to Alex, his wife wasn’t familiar with the game so he picked up a copy for “research” purposes.

So guys and gals, if you’re looking for a way to get your significant other interested in video games, try to use their love of baked goods as an excuse to introduce games into the relationship. The results may be delicious.

This is the story of New Super Mario Bros. Wii

We know many Joystiq readers don’t want to read spoilers on the site. That’s why, for your sake, we’ve carefully posted the intro movie to New Super Mario Bros. Wii after the break. The upcoming 2D platformer returns the series to its roots, but adds a number of features that make it “new” — it says so on the box. New power-ups and the addition of multiplayer radically change the feel of NSMBW, but we’re not sure if gamers are prepared for the revolutionary new story featured in this latest adventure.

Xbox 360 wedding cake unlocks Achievement

Joystiq reader Charles was married recently, and he sent us word that his new wife surprised him with a very special groom’s cake. We have dubbed it the XCake 360. It comes complete with 120SB (sprinkle-bite) hard drive and a wireless cake-troller. We’re also guessing it’s not a launch cake, as it clearly hasn’t yet suffered the Red Ring of Death. Still, we get the feeling it probably didn’t last much longer than moments after this picture was taken.

The cake also has an Achievement pop-up on top which reads: “Achievement Unlocked: Until Death Do Us Part.” Now, Charles, comes one of the most important decisions for a newly married couple: Separate or joint Xbox Live accounts?
