Let’s all just agree that the above
laptop decal is awesome. Created by LapTatt and available on Etsy for a paltry $14, it’s just about the greatest Nintendo-themed laptop decal we’ve ever seen (not that there have been too many). Admittedly, it seems designed with the Apple logo in mind — especially considering Yoshi’s taste for brightly colored fruit — but we imagine it would work just as well with almost any laptop logo.
And, if Yoshi and baby Mario don’t do it for you, you could always pick up a Kirby decal (in black or white) for only $8. See it after the break.

While the above headline is true, you’ll probably have to squint your eyes a bit to see it. You see, someone at GameStop had the particularly brilliant idea of making an application that can plaster your face directly over the famous (infamous?) Nintendo 64 kid. What kid, you ask? You know the one. Yeah, that one. Or, if you’re like us, you can always use a picture of a cat. Apart from the video being holiday themed, we’re not sure how the application will help GameStop sell games. But, then again, we don’t really care. We just put a cat face on N64 Kid’s face. What more could you want?

Microsoft and Tor Books have issued a friendly reminder that the Halo: Evolutions story collection has officially hit the shelves. The collection includes tales from the Halo universe penned by series authors Eric Nylund and Thomas Buckell, as well as others by 343 Industries’ Frank O’Connor, Bungie’s Robt McLees, sci-fi author Karen Traviss and others. The book retails for $14.99, but it can be had for much less if you know where to look.
For those who have picked it up already, any good?

In a positively baffling announcement, Microsoft’s Major Nelson has tweeted that Xbox Live has reached a new record: Two million simultaneous users. That means two million people were logged into Xbox Live at the same time earlier today. The puzzling question is this: What in the world could have possibly driven so many people to sign synchronously onto Xbox Live? We can only assume that people are taking part in some seriously heated matches of Dragon Ball: Raging Blast. Barring that, it could be that the Final Fantasy XI Ultimate Collection has brought thousands back into the fold.
We just don’t know what else it could be.

ASEFOSAM, a Spanish labor association has announced (translation) that it plans to make Nintendo’s Mario Mario an honorary member. Mario is to be presented with a silver badge, which is given to members of the association who improve the image of laborers. In celebration, a contest will be held in Madrid over the weekend to determine the best Mario Bros. player (though we’re not sure exactly which of the many, many Mario games is to be played).
So, yeah, it sounds like the Italian labor associations really dropped the ball on this.

Boy, we’ve seen a lot of real-life custom Halo vehicles lately. First there was a tiny, completely huggable Warthog, then a full-size Warthog and now we’ve got a working, custom Mongoose. The vehicle was spotted on Craigslist and, according to the seller, it was originally used as part of a Halo 3 launch event. A modified 2007 Kawasaki KFX 700 ATV, the seller claims it was won in a drawing, but now he has to sell it. If you could use a “mint condition” Mongoose — and have $9000 laying around — this baby can be all yours.
Once you pick it up, all you’ll need is a buddy and a (Nerf) rocket launcher and you’ve got instant good times.

The simple truth is that we don’t care why French magazine Amusement shot small electronic devices through a wall. Oh sure, there are reasons supplied. Specifically, the gallery in question is entitled “Overheating” and depicts several objects being hurled through a wall out of frustration — including a DS Lite. Yet, once again again, the why really doesn’t matter. The end result — a flying, frozen mass of wood, sheet rock and plastic — just looks cool.
And anyway, it’s not like all of us haven’t felt like hurling a console through the wall every now and then. Now we just have a handy visual reference.

Remember Greg Strope? No? Perhaps you’ll remember his dog, Oscar, who purchased 5000 Microsoft Points — worth $62.50 — last week while his owner slept. At the time, we reported that Strope was out of luck thanks to Microsoft’s “no refunds” policy. As it turns out, Microsoft contacted Joystiq to inform us that it will refund Strope’s money after all, and will be “providing extra for good measure.” In addition, Microsoft is sending Strope an extra controller and an Xbox Live subscription just for Oscar. The company even set the dog up with his own Gamertag: Oscar The K9.
Now, if Microsoft would just introduce a canine Avatar model, Oscar would be set for life.

Update: Turns out Microsoft refunded Strope’s money after all. The company even set the dog up with his own Xbox Live account. Read about it
here.
While most Xbox owners are patently aware of the dangers of late night, impulse Microsoft Point purchases, we imagine no one ever worried about their dog doing the same thing. And yet Greg Strope of Richmond, Virginia tells Fox News that his dog, Oscar, purchased 5000 Microsoft Points, adding up to a total of $62.50. Strope says he received an email while he was sleeping and discovered it was a purchase confirmation from Microsoft. When he went to check his Xbox 360, he found that his controller had been chewed by his dog, and he presumed the animal had not only managed to turn on the console, but subsequently purchased the points.
Strope noted that Microsoft has a no refund policy and he wishes the company make it more difficult to purchase points. Our suggestion to Strope: Don’t leave your controllers (or your Xbox, for that matter) within reach of the dog. Also, don’t drink and play Rock Band. See Strope’s interview after the break.

Well, unless you work for Weta, of course. The Warthog above, as seen on Pixelated Geek, was made by a company called Custom Creations, and was built for the Halo fan film, Operation Chastity. That’s right, it was made for a fan film. Not to put too fine a point on it, but had we been tasked with building a Warthog, it probably wouldn’t even be as good as modified Power Wheels. Suffice it to say, it’s pretty nice.
To see some pics of the Warthog’s construction process — it took approximately a year to build — head over to the official Operation Chastity website. The project begins filming in 2010.
