We’d usually say it’s a
good thing when a zombie invasion gets postponed, but not when we’re talking about
Left 4 Dead 2 releasing in the UK a couple days after the rest of the world. According to Valve’s own
L4D2 blog, “copies of the game are still arriving” across the pond, with assurances from the developer that it will “have everyone in the UK playing
Left 4 Dead 2 by Friday morning.” Wait —
everyone in the UK? Whoa now guys!
While Xbox 360 owners and PC gamers who still buy physical copies of software are out of luck, Valve says that everyone in the region who pre-ordered L4D2 via Steam can play it right now. Of course, those left waiting can pretend they’re fighting to survive the scariest of all Left 4 Dead campaigns: “Delay of Game” (tagline: “Patience never killed anyone — until now!”).

Somehow, Konami managed to provide a release date for Silent Hill: Shattered Memories while still not clearing up any of the recent confusion about the release date. How? By announcing a release date for Europe. Eurogamer reports that Konami will release the re-imagined survival-horror game on Wii, PS2, and PSP in February 2010.
While the Eurogamer article references the uncertain American release date, no answer is given. Either the release date is being moved to 2010 worldwide, or Europe has the usual delay after the American date. The uncertainty is by far the scariest aspect of this game! Either that or the nightmare world that alters itself to more directly involve your worst fears. One of those.

Konami has yet to offer an official release date for Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, and the unofficial release dates keep shifting identities like some kind of haunted village. After Nintendo dated the game on its release schedule, we thought we could safely expect the game in November, but retailers have changed their dates once again.
GameStop now expects to have Shattered Memories in stock on December 8. GameFly, whose dates tend to differ from official ones by a few days, lists the Wii game as being available November 26, but the PS2 and PSP versions on December 31. Wal-Mart’s dates put the Wii version at November 24 and the PlayStation games on Christmas Day (which is probably not the real ship date, on account of there not being any mail delivery that day).
Basically, the game is coming out later. It’s not in stores right this second. That’s all we can say with any degree of certainty.

While Sega of America’s public relations team still hasn’t said one word regarding an increasingly inevitable delay, Sega of America’s website has finally declared that Alpha Protocol will not begin its mission until 2010. The site displays the Xbox 360 and PC launches for May 6, 2010, while the PS3 version has been left at “Spring 2010.” This is a not-so-slight change from what the publisher’s website showed this morning, when the release information stated the espionage RPG was “out now” — a strange pronouncement for frustrated consumers, venting on developer Obsidian’s forums, and retailers we’d spoken to.
Sega’s update now fits with what several retailers have suggested about a 2010 release, including GameStop, Walmart, Amazon and GameFly.

WB has announced a new UK release date for 5TH Cell’s Scribblenauts: October 9. The company previously planned to release the title on September 25, then “October” (according to GamesCom press materials). Somehow, we doubt localization concerns are to blame. The North American version is still on track for September 15, which is so soon! So soon, in fact, that you could probably order one from the US and get it shipped to the UK before October 9. Just throwing that out there.
In other Scribblenews, a bunch of fun downloadables are available at the website now. Your wallpaper could have more panda-riding on it.

Ni no Kuni (The Another World), the Level-5/Studio Ghibli RPG for DS that includes the huge spellbook, will no longer be considered Level-5’s 10th anniversary game — because it won’t be out in 2009. The game has been bumped to spring 2010.
A playable demo was available at the LEVEL-5 VISION conference, and the same demo will be playable at Tokyo Game Show, where it will also be handed out to lucky attendees as part of the Level-5 Platinum demo cartridge Said cartridge which also hourse Professor Layton and the Devil’s Box and Inazuma Eleven 2 demos. Check out Andriasang for predictably lush new screens and artwork.

EA has announced that Rios and Salam’s latest outing, Army of Two: The 40th Day, is headed to the crowded Q1 2010 quarter, specifically January 12 in the US and January 8 in Europe. It’s a good time to release a game, really. Look at every one of these other games doing the same thing!
The press release also mentions a pre-order bonus for the game in “Extraction,” a multiplayer mode available to those who pre-order The 40th Day. Everyone else will gain access one month later.

A recent Warner Bros. press release has revealed the cuteified Lord of the Rings RPG Aragorn’s Quest will follow the example of a number of big-name titles, moving from its inital launch window of fall 2009 into spring 2010. Based on the screenshots we’ve seen from the game, we’re guessing they accidentally used up all the color in the world, and are now scrambling to find new sources of brilliant hues.
We worried that this adorable adventure might get swept away in the burgeoning first quarter of next year, as it’s set to face off with some extremely hyped, sometimes jetpack-equipped giants. However, it’s filling the somewhat uninhabited niche of “family-friendly co-op RPGs set in a colorful, pint-sized reimagination of a historically bleak and robust fantasy world,” so, you know. It might do okay.

Now, before you panic, just take a moment a listen to us. We’re going to get you through this. Yes, Shacknews is reporting that GameFly has listed Dragon Age: Origins for Nov. 3 and Nov. 19 on the 360 and PS3 respectively, but that’s only two to four weeks after its current October 20 release date. That’s not so bad, is it?
Besides, we’re not even sure this definitely means the game will be late coming to retail — it could just be a GameFly oddity. We’ve put the word out to BioWare for confirmation and we’ll let you know as soon as we hear something. For now, let’s all just take a nice, deep breath. OK?
[Update: Just heard from BioWare's Erik Einsiedel on this: "We're still targeting an October 20 release date. If that were to change, we'd issue a press release."]
[Update 2: Well, it's not a press release, but we just spoke with BioWare's senior PR manager, Matt Atwood, who confirmed that all versions of Dragon Age: Origins will arrive in November. The developer's official word on the revised dates: "We are pleased to announce that Dragon Age: Origins will be released on November 3 in North America and November 6 in Europe for Xbox 360 and PC. The PlayStation 3 version of the game will follow later in November."]

As we breathlessly await to see which of our hopes and dreams will be crushed by the next game being pushed from this fall into Q1 of 2010, we’ve decided to pass the time with an office pool of sorts, each of us picking one game that we think will be the next to get bumped.
Now, you may not want to read too much into these, as we’ve used methods ranging from sophisticated industry telemetry to completely pulling it out of our asses to make our picks. If there’s one you think we missed, let us know in the comments, and if we get enough good ones we might collect those in a separate post.
Also, true story: During the creation of this feature yesterday, at least two guys had to make new pics after StarCraft II got bumped. Fact.
Ready? Let’s get started.
