PS3 ownin’, Battlefield lovin’ gamers will soon be able to get their hands on a multiplayer beta for DICE’s upcoming Battlefield: Bad Company 2, according to a recent announcement by EA.

Starting November 19th, eager players will be able to glimpse a 24-player map going by the name of Arica Harbor, as well as sample a multitude of Bad Company 2’s vehicles, classes and weapons, while testing out the new Rush mode.

SVP of Publisher Relations at SCEA, Rob Duyer was suitably pleased with the coup, enthusing: “This is an outstanding opportunity for PlayStation gamers to get early access to one of the most action-packed and polished shooters in the marketplace with Battlefield: Bad Company 2. We’re happy to help DICE achieve their superior level of multiplayer excellence in the game.”

In order to get in on the action, North Americans will be able to get a Bad Company 2 multiplayer Beta Key by reserving the full game at either Best Buy or GameStop, while Europeans will need to keep their eyes on the official website for details.

Then, in December this year, invites will go out for the PC open beta for Bad Company 2, followed by a demo releasing early next year on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 releases next year on March 2nd in North America, and March 5th in Europe.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 beta details this week, EA says

November 3rd, 2009 at 02:50pm Under Xbox 360

We were warned yesterday about phishers scamming folks out of personal info, promising entry into a Battlefield: Bad Company 2 beta that hadn’t even been announced. It seems they weren’t completely off the mark though, as EA told Blend Games that details about a BF:BC 2 beta would arrive this week. If you remember, GameStop recently posted — then pulled — a listing that claimed those who pre-ordered the game would receive entry into a beta starting November 19.

You know what this means, don’t you? It’s our worst fears made flesh: Online phishing scammers who can see into the future. Well, it’s been nice knowing you, civilization.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 ‘Moments’ trailer is obscenely awesome

September 30th, 2009 at 08:14pm Under Xbox 360

There’s one major thing Battlefield: Bad Company 2 possesses that its insanely hyped competitors lack: A liberal dose of good old fashioned profanity. Of course, we haven’t played said competitors, but we can’t imagine another game’s characters drop bombs of the “S” and “F” varieties as freely as those seen in the trailer above. Well, except for the two agents in House of the Dead: Overkill, but that’s a special, special exception.

Fortunately, it looks like there’s some solid action in there to accompany all the dirty words. Check out the trailer for an uncut, uncensored and unsuitable for work gameplay chunk from a multiplayer match in BBC2. The game, that is — not the brainy British television channel.

New Battlefield: Bad Company 2 footage brings the vehicles, boom

September 24th, 2009 at 08:00pm Under Xbox 360

We’re sure that Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Executive Producer Karl-Magnus Troedsson (awesome name!) is a very nice gentleman, and we’re sure he says some really interesting things in GameTrailersTGS video found after the break, but he keeps interrupting some glorious multiplayer gameplay footage. Shhh, Karl-Magnus, we’re trying to watch the booms, bangs and bagongings.

Check out the footage after the break to get an idea of all the mayham and some of the vehicle cockpit views we’ll experience when Battlefield: Bad Company 2 releases — when else, but 2010 … just like everything else.

No additional Battlefield 1943 content currently in development

August 21st, 2009 at 04:00pm Under Xbox 360

Sad news from the front, soldiers. DICE is not currently working on any new Battlefield 1943 maps or content for the downloadable hit, which has now drafted over a million players. Speaking with Joystiq, DICE Producer Gordon Van Dyke said the company is definitely working on the game’s squad-swapping bug — he believes it’s a server-side fix that will hopefully be resolved soon — but that all the effort at the moment is being put behind getting Battlefield: Bad Company 2 out the door.

“We need to figure out what’s the best thing for the community. What’s the best thing for the franchise?” Van Dyke told us about why the online hit isn’t getting further development attention. He currently has “no idea” about when the company will get to work on more content for Battlefield 1943. That certainly calls for a sad face emoticon, don’t you think? :(

Bad Company 2 dated for March, screenshots and trailer celebrate

August 19th, 2009 at 03:53am Under PS3

EA and DICE’s next Battlefield game, Battlefield: Bad Company 2, has had its release date carved in stone (or wobbled in water) and been announced to be March 2nd in the US and March 5th in the UK and Europe, as a bevy of screenshots and a new trailer aim to mark the occasion.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Screenshot 1

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is the sequel to 2008’s singleplayer/multiplayer Battlefield experience, which introduced destructible environments to the squad-based action shooter proceedings. Bad Company 2 promises to deliver “a level of destruction, vehicular warfare, squad play and open world environments never before experienced in a modern warfare action game.” A tall order indeed.

Bad Company 2 marches into Q1 2010 battlefield

August 18th, 2009 at 01:15pm Under Xbox 360

Such fantastic, eloquent wordplay! Man! You see, the headline says that developer DICE’s latest first-person shooter marches into the early 2010 battlefield … because March is when the vehicular, open-world mayhem begins (that’s the 2nd in North America, the 5th in Europe). Perhaps it went over your head: “march” is what soldiers do … into a battlefield. Woah … but isn’t that also the name of the franchise? Oh, snap, it’s Battlefield!

So, let’s recap: Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is marching this March into a video game battlefield because that is what soldiers do and this is a video game called Battlefield about soldiers in a battlefield. This March. Battlefield.

Field of battle.

Xbox Live Top 10: Nazi zombies run amok

August 18th, 2009 at 12:45pm Under Xbox 360

Guys, do you ever play anything aside from four games? Major Nelson reports that last week’s Xbox Live activity was very much the same as the week before … and the week before that. Taking top spot was none other than Call of Duty: World at War, followed by usual suspects Halo 3, Call of Duty 4 and Gears of War 2. Madden 10 took last place, which isn’t much of a surprise considering it released on Friday. Come next week, we’re sure you’ll be hearing more about that one.

On the XBLA side, it was all about Trials HD, as the title earned top honors. Turtles in Time Re-Shelled managed to shell shock the competition by taking second and DICE’s Battlefield 1943 continues its sad story of decline, falling to third. Well, okay — maybe it’s not a sad story, per se.

Battlefield 1943 players upset over lack of Irish identification [Update]

July 29th, 2009 at 10:00am Under Xbox 360

Update: According to an update on SeenIt.co.uk, the gamer who argued for Irish distinction in his Battlefield 1943 profile has been contacted by EA support and was told, “It looks as though the issue you have submitted is more complex than it seemed initially.” Irish history, complex? Understatement! Hopefully this means all Irish gamers will be able to fly the colors they desire someday soon.

Original Story: Battlefield 1943 players out of Northern Ireland are surprised — and angry — that the game’s official site fails to display the country’s flag on their profile pages. Profiles for gamers in the North are stamped with the good ol’ Union Jack, the national flag of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and labels North Irish players as located in Great Britain. Some of you may cry, “So what?” Well, it’s a pride thing — and it’s a law. “If you live in Northern Ireland EA won’t allow you to identify yourself as ‘Irish’ despite the 1998 Belfast agreement saying otherwise,” writes the UK entertainment blog, SeenIt.co.uk.

According to our history books, the Belfast Agreement allows citizens of Northern Ireland to identify themselves as Irish or British, or both. After attempting to change the country associated with the account, EA tech support told SeenIt changing the region was impossible because Ireland is “not listed distinctively” and is included under Great Britain. Seems like a silly thing for Electronic Arts to put its foot down on, unless it’s the first step to easily categorizing the world. Step two? All Canadians listed as hailing from “America’s Hat.”

[Thanks, Martin]
