You may download PC/360 Devil May Cry 4 on December 22

December 15th, 2009 at 04:45pm Under Xbox 360

Has the pernicious dealing with retail requirement kept you from the ongoing, stylish adventures of Nero and Dante (not that Dante)? Capcom has good news for those of us with no tolerance for relics like stores and boxes: starting December 22, the PC version of Devil May Cry 4 will be available for download on “the digital distribution partner of your choice,” including, of course, Capcom’s own shop, where pre-orders are being accepted for $29.99. The 360 version will hit Games on Demand, along with Lost Planet Colonies Edition, the same day.

Capcom notes that the PC version of the action game features some enhancements not found in the console versions: altered enemy placements, a “Turbo Mode,” an extra-difficult “Legendary Dark Knight Mode,” among several visual tweaks. And now, it’s enhanced with buying it from home mode!

Forza 3 sales surpass 1m units; premium DLC released

December 8th, 2009 at 07:30pm Under Xbox 360

[Paul J. Taylor]

Since its late October launch, Forza 3 has sped into over 1 million homes worldwide, marking a commercial milestone for Turn 10’s critically acclaimed racer. In conjunction with today’s release of the game’s second and now premium DLC car pack (the first one’s always free, ain’t it?), dubbed “Hot Holidays,” Microsoft has tallied up some Forza 3 stats.

According to the publisher, players have so far tracked 6.6 million hours and 590 million collective miles — no word on flats or oil changes. Microsoft’s Aaron Greenberg tweets that “more than 4M [million] auction bids” have lead to “$18.7 billion” virtual dollars spent (we have to imagine at least a billion went to that gorgeous coop pictured above). Of course, Microsoft has its eye on the real dollars, offering today’s 10-car pack for 400 ($5). The full list of cars is posted after the break.

Additionally, a second premium pack has been confirmed for January 12, and — wouldn’t you know it — that date coincides with the kick-off of the Detroit International Auto Show. You think that was planned?

Fight Night Round 4 gets ‘Rivalries’ DLC this week, you get a new trailer right now

November 29th, 2009 at 04:30pm Under Xbox 360

For those of you wishing to recreate the ear-biting banality that is a boxing match between Mike Tyson (please don’t hurt us!) and Evander Holyfield (the poor guy!), EA Sports is enabling just such a possibility with this week’s DLC for Fight Night Round 4. Titled “Rivalries,” it’ll be adding three new fighters as well as some new game modes.

The DLC’s trailer (found after the break) details all the new additions, as well as giving us our first in-action look at the new fighters. We’ll be re-imagining Holyfield’s fateful fight with Tyson getting pummeled into the ground when the DLC arrives on December 3 – call it virtual retribution.

Rockstar revamps Social Club’s online leaderboards and stat tracking for Gay Tony

October 29th, 2009 at 04:45pm Under Xbox 360

With the release of this week’s second Grand Theft Auto IV expansion The Ballad of Gay Tony, the game’s developer has decided to update the online multiplayer statistics tracking in order to reflect the new multiplayer game types. The addition of “BASE Jump” to the mulitplayer as well as “new, tighter Deathmatch arenas” helped spur the leaderboard overhaul, according to the developer blog. The various new additions being made due to the DLC will even get their own section on the Rockstar Social Club, presumably for the four of you tracking your new GTAIV DLC stats after Modern Warfare 2 releases in a couple weeks.

Latest Ballad of Gay Tony trailer showcases Luis Lopez’s many exploits

October 28th, 2009 at 03:15pm Under Xbox 360

Rather than offer interesting social commentary or moody atmospheric tone, the just-released Ballad of Gay Tony teaser instead teaches us that Luis Lopez is not a joking around kinda guy. He takes shots, tosses dudes off buildings – he even goes to the driving range!

In case it weren’t already glaringly obvious to you, the second Grand Theft Auto IV expansion will be taking itself quite a bit less seriously than the first digital release. Thankfully, the wait is nearly over and we can find out for ourselves tomorrow just how much Rockstar Games has twisted its latest opus.

Square Enix mobile title Kuni Yaburete Sanga Ari coming to DSiWare

October 26th, 2009 at 01:00pm Under Wii / Nintendo

Here’s the thing about Square Enix bringing its mobile games to DSiWare — we want the games over here! (Anything but the clocks and calendars, please!) Andriasang has news that the Japanese publisher will be offering Kuni Yaburete Sanga Ari (translated as “Hills and Rivers Remain”) via Nintendo’s DSiWare digitial distribution platform starting this week. Unfortunately for those on this side of the Pacific, the game will remain exclusive to Japan for the time being.

Four-player wireless gameplay will be added for Nintendo’s handheld, as well as updated stylus controls and “some exclusive maps” in multiplayer. For those of you able to pick it up, the game will run you 800 DSi points ($8) when it’s made available this Wednesday. For everyone else, TinyCartridge points out the recent trademark filing by Square Enix for the game’s English title. Keep hope alive!

Hydrophobia flooding retailer shelves as well as XBLA

October 10th, 2009 at 06:00am Under Xbox 360

As details slowly drip out of Xbox World 360’s recent hands-on with upcoming water-based puzzler Hydrophobia, the game’s developer, Dark Energy Digital, is putting Internet-less Xbox 360 owners’ fears to rest. In addition to releasing the game as three chapters on Xbox Live Marketplace, Hydrophobia will be getting a disc release at the end of next year.

Also of note, despite the game’s grandiose scale, it weighs in at under 250MB — well under the allowed 2GB file size for XBLA releases that Microsoft recently increased. We’ve reached out to Dark Energy Digital to nail down some of the more slippery details on Hydrophobia and will update you as soon as we hear more.

Retail gets PSN ‘Game Cards’ in NA, PSN vouchers in the UK

October 1st, 2009 at 11:00pm Under PSP

click to embiggen

With the launch of Sony’s PSP Go this week, the first download-only gaming device from a major console developer has finally arrived on the market. Given the profitability of the used games market and brick-and-mortar’s relative stronghold on game sales, we asked Sony of America (SCEA) and Sony of Europe (SCEE) how they’re going to get download-only games onto retailer shelves. SCEA’s answer: PlayStation Network Game Cards.

According to an SCEA rep, 10 titles (all of which can be found after the break) will be available “in North America at select retailers” and should be available as of today. Unfortunately for retailers across the pond, no such luck — at very least in the UK. An SCEE rep told Joystiq, “We don’t have any plans for vouchers/gift cards like this … at the moment we are only selling the PSN vouchers of £20 and £50 for the UK,” though that isn’t to say PSN Game Cards will never arrive on European shores.

At least for now it seems that SCEA will be keeping a foothold in retail with its download-only titles (and even some UMD-based titles now available as downloads) through these game vouchers. UK retailers … well … at least people will be coming in for the PSP-3000, right?

PSA: NIS America’s PSP re-releases half price on PSN

October 1st, 2009 at 06:30am Under PSP

As we reported earlier this month, NIS America is making several of its previously UMD-only PSP games available for download from the US PlayStation Store late tonight / early tomorrow morning to coincide with the launch of PSP Go.

For a period of one week, Blade Dancer: Lineage of Light, Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness, Dragoneer’s Aria, Holy Invasion of Privacy Badman!, Mana Khemia: Student Alliance and Prinny: Can I Really Be the Hero? will be available at 50% off their normal cost — a welcome offer, given that many digital titles on the store are keeping pricing parity with their retail UMD equivalents.

NIS is also asking visitors to the PlayStation Blog whether they want to see a UMD release of Holy Invasion of Privacy, Badman! by means of a poll that currently has the “ayes” and “nays” running nearly neck-and-neck.

DSiWare purchases locked to hardware, only Nintendo can transfer

September 30th, 2009 at 11:30pm Under Wii / Nintendo

If you’re bored with your black or electric blue DSi and looking to trade-over to one of the newly released white or pink models, your DSiWare purchases won’t be able to make the journey. UK site Nintendo Life has confirmed that, with the exception of a broken handheld, purchases made from the DSi Shop are permanently “locked” to the system they’re downloaded onto.

Unlike Xbox 360, PS3 and PSP there’s no method for transferring the rights to downloaded software from one machine to another by the end user. In fact, Nintendo Australia informed the site that, should a DSi break and its owner want its DSiWare moved to a new unit, both must be mailed in to Nintendo, which will perform the process.

We’ve asked Nintendo of America if it has a similar policy for what should be a matter of a simple phone call to de-authorize one DSi and authorize another to download content you’ve already paid for. We’re anticipating a “yes” in response. Then again, as GameSpot points out, NOA’s end user license states “software downloaded from Nintendo DSi Shop is licensed to you, not sold.” Pays to read the fine print.
