Nintendo’s latest handheld, the revised edition of the DSi known as the DSi LL (and DSi XL in Europe), released last Saturday (November 22nd) in Japan, and according to data published by the local sales tracker, Enterbrain, the new console managed to sell 103 524 in only two days.

Compared to the launch of the original DSi in Japan at the end of 2008, and over a similar period of time, that console managed to shift around 170 000 units, while the PSPgo only sold 28 725 units during its first day on sale when it released earlier this year.

Over the weekend, Japanese gamers were able to get their hands on the latest iteration of Nintendo’s DS handheld, the DSi LL.
Featuring two (much) larger screens compared to the previous versions, the DSi and DS Lite, two new touch pens (both a large and a small) and three pre-installed WiiWare titles, the DSi LL went on sale in Japan on December 21st, or last Saturday.
Those of us located in areas of the world not named Japan will be able to get the DSi LL, known as the DSi XL in Europe, in the first quarter of next year. Until then, you can have a look at a comprehensive list of comparisons between the DSi, DS Lite and DSi LL (or XL) via El33tonline’s previous coverage of the device.

So, the rumours were true after all, despite Nintendo’s reluctance to add any credence…
At a press event in Tokyo, Nintendo recently announced the existence of a new DSi, the DSi LL, which features a bigger screen (measuring in at 4.2 inches), priced at ¥20,000 ($220) and slapped with a release date of November 21st in Japan.
Nintendo has apparently been bombarded with requests by previous DS and DSi customers for a larger screen, to which the Japanese games giant has responded with a screen size that is roughly 93 percent larger than that of the DS Lite.

The DSi LL will come standard with two touch pens (one short and one long) and three pre-installed DSiWare games comprising two brain training games concerning humanities and sciences, and DS Easy Dictionary.
The new handheld will be available in three different colours, namely Dark Brown, Wine Red and Natural White.
According to VG247, Nintendo of Europe has confirmed that the DSi LL, known as the DSi XL in Europe, will become available in the first quarter next year in that region, with a retail price that is expected to be higher than that of the current DSi.
