The release list for the Japanese Wii and DSi Shops are a bit more restrained than the last couple of weeks, offering a much more manageable (read: smaller) selection of downloadable titles. On Virtual Console, for example, Sega’s isometric arcade shmup Zaxxon is the only offering. Similarly, there’s just one WiiWare game, but it’s Phoenix Wright!
DSiWare gets the cool Photo FIghter X, which lets you build fighting game characters from DSi camera snaps. More Paint By DS joins it, this time all about dogs; and in the requisite “puzzle game” positions are a new G.G. series entry and a Jupiter-developed game about rotating blocks to match colors.
- Zaxxon (Arcade, 1-2 players, 500 Wii Points)
- Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney (WiiWare, 1 player, 900 Wii Points)
- Shashin de Kakutou! Photo Fighter X! (DSiWare, 1-2 players, 200 DSi Points)
- G.G. Series Vertex (DSiWare, 1 player, 200 DSi Points)
- Kanji Practice First Grade (DSiWare, 1 player, 200 DSi Points)
- Artist ni Narou! Minna no Nurikai Inu-hen (DSiWare, 1 player, 500 DSi Points)
- Atelier Deco La Doll (DSiWare, 1 player, 500 DSi Points)
- Castle of Magic (DSiWare, 1 player, 500 DSi Points)
- Panewa! (DSiWare, 1 player, 500 DSi Points)

Nintendo’s Q1 release schedule is as packed with new information as all Nintendo release schedules are. In addition to the announcements we’ve already covered, Nintendo confirmed the March 14 date for Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver. Endless Ocean 2, another game Nintendo has been silent about since E3, is now called Endless Ocean: Blue World, and e-divers will be able to start exploring it on February 22.
Some big WiiWare indies are on the way in Q1, including And Yet It Moves and Super Meat Boy. See the full list of releases, including a series of unannounced, Nintendo-published DSiWare games, after the break.

As promised, Sunsoft’s brought Blaster Master to the Virtual Console — though we think the impact is somewhat dulled by the quantity of other games available for download this week. There’s a total of 11 different games available, so head past the break for the full list.

The sole Virtual Console release this week is a reminder of a very odd time: when Sega thought Alex Kidd was a viable character. The company took an in-progress Shinobi parody game called Shinobi Kid, and then added the Alex Kidd character. Someone at Sega was under the impression that a game would sell better with Alex Kidd in it.
Also available: more Monkey Island, an expansion of one of Rubik’s World’s games, and Pallurikio, a cute platformer with a slingshot mechanic. And on DSiWare, it’s … a stripped-down version of Hell’s Kitchen!
- Pallurikio (WiiWare, 1 player, 1,000 Wii Points)
- Rubik’s Puzzle Galaxy: RUSH (WiiWare, 1-2 players, 600 Wii Points)
- Tales of Monkey Island: Chapter 4 (WiiWare, 1 player, 1,000 Wii Points)
- Alex Kidd in Shinobi World (Sega Master System, 1 player, 500 Wii Points)
- PictureBook Games: The Royal Bluff (DSiWare, 1-4 players, 500 DSi Points)
- Hell’s Kitchen Vs. (DSiWare, 1-2 players, 800 DSi Points)

The upcoming Japanese DSiWare game Katamuction uses the system’s cameras in a unique way: to simulate tilt control. Using Motion Cortex, technology originally designed for motion-based browsing on cell phones, the game uses camera information to sense the direction in which the DS is moved. And what is that technology used for? A game about running away from a dinosaur! Katamuction will be out December 24 for 500 DSi Points.
Fight with Pictures: Photo Fighter X from Nintendo uses the camera to create fighting game characters: you take photos of yourself in various poses, and the game makes a fighter out of it! It’s out in Japan next week for 200 points.
Two Japanese DSiWare games with clever camera uses originally appeared on Joystiq Nintendo on Fri, 11 Dec 2009 13:45:00 EST. Please see our terms for use of feeds.

Using its cost-effective ESRB method of announcing new games, Atlus revealed a new DSi program called PhotoWorld. As you may expect from a game with that title, it involves taking pictures with the DSi camera. Players shoot a self-portrait and then “customize the pictures with a variety of stamps, photo effects, and text boxes.”
As Siliconera notes, Atlus already sort of has a program like this on DSiWare. Nintendo’s Sparkle Snapshots is based on Atlus’s popular Print Club (Purikura) booths. We look forward to finding out how this one differs — there’s absolutely no way it could be any more sparkly, that’s for sure. Of course, we aren’t even sure this is DSiWare — while this sounds like the kind of thing you would sell as a download, all we know is that it’s for the DSi.

When we heard about Stop Stress: A Day of Fury, we were pretty interested. It’s not that we have above-normal levels of stress or anything, it’s all about the method Jack employs. After checking out the game’s info video on the Nintendo Channel this week, we can safely say that Jack just has a short fuse. Hey, Jack, we deal with large, autonomous copy machines all the time and you don’t see us going on a rampage. Seriously, stop being such a spaz!
Head past the break for the full list of this week’s content.

This week, the European Wii and DS Shops’ halls are decked, with one festive, holiday-themed game each! Happy Holidays: Christmas on WiiWare is, like the Halloween WiiWare release, a program that lets you put together and send e-cards. Yep.
Just Sing! Christmas Songs on DSiWare is pretty much what it sounds like: a karaoke game in which you just sing Christmas songs. Two of them. Just watch the trailer (via GoNintendo) after the break.
Oh, also, Earthworm Jim 2 on Virtual Console. Neat!
- Earthworm Jim 2 (Mega Drive, 1 player, 800 Wii Points)
- Mahjong (WiiWare, 500 Wii Points)
- Happy Holidays: Christmas (WiiWare, 1 player, 500 Wii Points)

Today, for those Japanese gamers who like King of Fighters games but didn’t purchase the Orochi Collection disc — or the Neo Geo Online Collection Complete Box sets, King of Fighters ‘95 is available on the Virtual Console. SNK Playmore’s business model is so strange — these Virtual Console releases seem to actively compete with the company’s retail collections.
Also available: two cute Namco arcade games, including Rompers, an obscure game about pushing walls over on enemies. DSiWare features a Tales of Graces spinoff, a calendar that lets you mark upcoming events, and a Picross variant with surprisingly nice sprite work.
- The King of Fighters ‘95 (Neo Geo, 1-2 players, 900 Wii Points)
- Ordyne (Arcade, 1-2 players, 800 Wii Points)
- Rompers (Arcade, 1-2 players, 800 Wii Points)
- Ponjan Wii (WiiWare, 1-4 players, 1,000 Wii Points)
- Ato Nannichi? Kazoeru Nintendo DSi Calendar (DSiWare, 1 player, 200 DSi Points)
- Kamenin Merchant (DSiWare, 1 player, 200 DSi Points)
- Kaiten Illust Puzzle Guruguru Logic (DSiWare, 1 player, 500 DSi Points)
