Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 continues its crushing sales supremacy over every other game in Chart Track’s UK Software Sales Chart this past week, crunching Fifa 10 at No. 2 and Assassin’s Creed II at No. 3 this week to snatch No. 1 once again.
Modern Warfare 2’s sales are down a miniscule 7%, which is small enough to retain its market leading performance for the fourth week in a row. We’ll have to wait and see if it matches its older sibling, Call of Duty: World at War, which managed a straight five weeks at No. 1 before being overtaken by Fifa 09.
The same pattern could be followed as Fifa 10 (sales up 24%) is looking quite dangerous, and despite what must be a desponding defeat this week, the football sim manages to climb to No. 2 from No. 4 last week, pushing Assassin’s Creed II down to No. 3 this week from No. 2, causing a domino effect that catches New Super Mario Bros. Wii and sends it to No. 4 from No. 3 last week.

Wii Sports Resort (sales up 30%) and Wii Fit Plus (sales up 21%) continue their chart dominance tussle, effectively swapping places with one another as Wii Sports Resort lands at No. 5 from No. 6, and Wii Fit Plus sits at No. 6 from No. 5.
Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games (sales up by 28%) is a non-mover at No. 7 as LEGO Indiana Jones 2: The Adventure Continues (sales up 74%) shoots up to No. 8 from No. 12 last week. Forza Motorsport 3 (sales up 27%) stubbornly resists moving from No. 9, and Mario Kart Wii (sales up 24%) makes its way back into the coveted Top Ten, shifting into No. 10 from No. 11 last week.
Other interesting movement on the UK Software Sales Chart this week includes Left 4 Dead 2 dropping to No. 14 from No. 8 last week, F1 2009 losing a few places and charting at No. 16 from No. 10, Batman: Arkham Asylum (sales up 122%) re-entering the chart at No. 20 thanks to a retailer promotion, and Peppa Pig: The Game (sales up 384%) is launched back into the chart with the release of the Wii version.
Borderlands meanwhile reclaims positions and shifts to No. 23 from way down at No. 38 last week, Just Dance (sales up 290%) re-enters the chart at No. 30, and The Saboteur debuts in the chart at a lowly No. 39 in its first week on sale.
The Top Ten All Format UK Software Sales Chart follows below:
- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Activision)
- FIFA 10 (EA)
- Assassin’s Creed II (Ubisoft)
- New Super Mario Bros Wii. (Nintendo)
- Wii Sports Resort (Nintendo)
- Wii Fit Plus (Nintendo)
- Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games (Nintendo)

EA has announced that FIFA 10 has sold over 4.5 million units worldwide since the game launched on the 1st of October.
This figure is based on internal sales projections and shows a 26% increase over the same period last year, eight weeks in Europe and five in North America.
The publisher was also quick to point out that FIFA 10 became the fastest-selling sports videogame in the world with 1.7 million units sold at European retail in the first week on sale and is also the overall top selling game in Europe in 2009 to date.
The game can also boast about new franchise records for online play, with 3 million games played daily from launch until the 19th of November, and more than 113 million total online games played on the PS3 and Xbox 360 over the past two months as of the end of November.
FIFA 10 Ultimate Team
EA also announced the development of a new game mode expansion called FIFA 10 Ultimate Team that it will be launching in February 2010. The new mode expansion is described as a “deeper, more authentic, more dynamic version” of the game mode that was introduced last year, allowing fans to customize they way they build their Ultimate Team. FIFA 10 Ultimate Team will be available for 400 MSP via Xbox Live or $4.99 on the PlayStation Network.
The new mode enables players to build their Ultimate Team, giving the option to manage one or more squads and compete in dynamically updated online tournaments. Here’s a little more about it from the press release:
“FIFA 10 Ultimate Team has more options and players that enable gamers to emulate the way real-world coaches and managers build the truly great football teams. Choose how to manage your team–-focusing on creating one formidable squad, or managing multiple squads to match dynamic requirements for tournaments and competitions. Buy, sell, trade and acquire the biggest stars to build your dream team. Be strategic and tactical in preparing your squads for the various in-game competitions.”
“A completely redesigned chemistry system built around player relationships on the pitch, means that managing teams and squads to their full potential is even more critical to success. Take carefully assembled squads into standard tournaments and themed competitions against the most formidable teams from around the world – and then out wit and out play them.”
“FIFA 10 Ultimate Team adds a lot more authenticity to a unique game that will update with new challenges and content over time,” said Producer Paul Hossack. “We now have over 7,000 players from 27 leagues available, from which gamers will craft one or multiple squads to show their mastery of the revamped, more realistic chemistry system, and compete in tournaments with exciting requirements and rewards. On top of that, we’ll release new tournaments and other updates regularly to keep the experience fresh and exciting.”

For the second week in a row, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has taken perch atop Chart Track’s UK Software Sales Chart, fending off valiant advances from newcomers such as Left 4 Dead 2, Assassin’s Creed II and New Super Mario Bros. Wii in the process.
Sales of Modern Warfare 2 this past week dropped a massive 86% from its enormous launch week, which makes this chart topping feat all the more impressive.
Assassin’s Creed II (releasing on Xbox 360, PS3, DS and PSP) debuts at No. 2, outperforming the original entry to the series by 12% on launch week (although the original title notably shot straight to No. 1 in its first week of sales in 2007).
New Super Mario Bros. Wii also makes its first chart appearance, only below Assassin’s Creed II at No. 3, while two other Nintendo titles, Wii Sports Resort (sales down 10%) and Wii Fit Plus (sales up 10%) take positions 4 and 5 respectively (dropping from No. 2 and No. 4 respectively).
Fifa 10 (sales down 5%) drops from No. 3 to No. 6 this week, as Left 4 Dead 2, another debut title in the UK, charts at No. 7. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games steps down to No. 8 this week from No. 6, Forza Motorsport 3 falls to No. 9 from No. 5 last week, and LEGO Batman: The Videogame appears at No. 10, moving down from No. 7 last week.
Other interesting movement on the UK Software Sales Chart this week includes the debut of Codemasters’ Formula One racing game, F1 2009 on Wii and PSP at No. 11, the debut of LEGO Indiana Jones 2: The Adventure Continues at No. 16, Dragon Age: Origins slipping down to No. 17 from No. 13 last week and GTA: Episodes From Liberty City falling to No. 21 from No. 10 last week.
Meanwhile, Football Manager 2010 fumbles its way to No. 23 from No. 12, Style Boutique shoots up the chart to No. 25 this week from No. 40, Uncharted 2 trips and falls to No. 29 from No. 18, Tekken 6 drops to No. 33 from No. 20 last week, DJ Hero continues its poor performance by slipping down further to No. 35 from No. 27, and LittleBigPlanet re-enters the chart at No. 38 thanks to the release of the PSP version.

To the absolute surprise of no-one, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has released and zoomed straight to the top of Chart Track’s UK Software Sales Chart for the week ending November 14th.
Modern Warfare 2 managed to record the biggest launch in the region ever, with 1.78 million units solid in the UK over five days, generation a whopping £67.4 million.
Chart Track puts this amazing launch into perspective by pointing out that, in five days, Modern Warfare 2 “grossed almost twice as much as the entire entertainment software market” this past week:
“The Xbox 360 version alone has sold over 1m units in its first week, making £38.5m (which on its own is more than last week’s total entertainment software market figure). ‘Modern Warfare 2’ has smashed GTA IV’s launch week record of 927,000 units (£39.9m) by a huge margin.”
Wow.
Elsewhere on the chart, Wii Sports Resort (sales up 45%) moves up to No. 2 from No. 3, while Fifa 10 (sales flat) shifts down to No. 3 from No. 2, effectively swapping positions with one another.
Wii Fit Plus (sales down 24%), last week’s No. 1, stumbles down to No. 4 this week, as Forza Motorsport 3 (sales up 22%) steps up one place to No. 5 this week from No. 6. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games (sales up 9%) meanwhile also moves up a place to No. 6 from No. 7 last week.
LEGO Batman: The Videogame (sales up 107%) surges up the chart to No. 7 from No. 14 last week, while Mario Kart Wii (sales up 53%) makes a similar move, charting at No. 8 this week from No. 12. The largest jump is reserved for Pure (sales up 143%), however, which leaps up to No. 9 from No. 23, as GTA: Episodes From Liberty City (sales down 28%) is forced down the chart to No. 10, from No. 8 last week.
Other interesting movement on the chart this week includes Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 moving out of the Top Ten to No. 11 from No. 9 last week, Football Manager 2010 also shifting out of the coveted Top Ten from No. 4 to No. 12, Dragon Age: Origins also making ‘the jump,’ now charting at No. 13 from No. 5, and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare re-entering the chart at No. 19 thanks to the release of the Wii version (and Modern Warfare 2 stoking interest).
Tekken 6, meanwhile, falls to No. 20 from No. 10 last week, DJ Hero continues its poor performance by shifting down to No. 27 from No. 21, Borderlands moves swiftly down the chart to No. 29 from No. 15 last week, and Ghostbusters: The Video Game slumps down to No. 39 from No. 26.

Moving up to the top of Chart Track’s UK Software Sales Chart this past week, however, is an older title in the form of Nintendo’s Wii Fit Plus (sales up 3%), while SEGA’s Football Manager 2010 (sales down 53%) shifts down from its first appearance at No. 1 last week, to No. 4 this week.
Fifa 10 (sales down 13%) meanwhile makes itself comfortable at No. 2, moving up from No. 3 last week, perhaps attempting to mount an assault on the coveted No. 1 position, and regain its previous stature?
Wii Sports Resort (sales up 63%, thanks to a 57% increase in Wii sales in the UK and the release of the new Black Wii Sports Resort Pack) climbs a long way up to No. 3 from No. 10 last week, while debut title Dragon Age: Origins charts at No. 5 on its first week of sale.

It seems as though Pro Evolution Soccer 2010’s reign at the top of the UK Software Sales Chart was extremely short-lived, as Football Manager 2010 from SEGA heads straight to the top of the sales rankings in its debut week on sale.

Yet another debut title, GTA: Episodes From Liberty City, sits at No. 6, as Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games (sales down 34%) moves down to No. 7 from No. 4 last week.

Newly released Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 has managed to knock Fifa 10 off of its perch to become the No. 1 best selling game in the UK, in Chart Track’s UK Software Sales Chart for last week.
[Update] PES 2010 platform sales breakdown revealed.
While PES 2010 didn’t manage to match its predecessor’s launch week sales figures, selling 39% less in its first week on sale on the same number of formats (PS3, Xbox 360 and PC), it did continue the trend of performing better on the PS3, claiming 66% of PES 2010’s sales on that platform, as the Xbox 360 managed 32% of the sales, and the PC a mere 2%.
[End of Update]
Forza Motorsport 3 places itself at No. 2 this week in its debut week on sale, forcing previous king of the chart, Fifa 10, to No. 3.

Wii Sports Resort tumbles down to No. 8 from No. 4 last week, Need For Speed: Shift steps down to No. 9 from No. 6, and Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising completes the Top Ten by falling from No. 3 last week to No. 10 this week.

It’s taken a while, but North American gamers are now able to get their hands on EA’s football/soccer extravaganza of a title, Fifa 10, and take on the rest of the world in brutal battles for pitch supremacy, with a flurry of fantastic… footie-cuffs?
Anyways, after Fifa 10 racked up 1.7 million units in sales over its debut release week in Europe earlier this month, there’s even more reasons to get excited over the title, seeing as how there now exists an enormous potential set of online players waiting to get trod into the dirt… or run you down, depending on your skill level.
Fifa 10 is now available worldwide on basically any format, such as PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, DS, PS2, PC and mobile.
Good luck out there!
