As you might have already guessed, last night’s
Spike Video Game Awards show’s “World Premiere” trailers have landed on the web via
GameTrailers.com. First up for us this morning:
Crackdown 2. Featuring the first campaign footage from the game that we’ve seen, it looks as though we’ll be
cooperatively taking down enemies with other agents when the game launches. Moreover, the entire trailer glories in the mass destruction introduced to us in the first
Crackdown, backed up by a “Would you like to blow &%^$ up with me?” soundtrack. Color us
excited.

It could happen this week, it could happen next week, but sometime in the month of December, Ubisoft will decide to liberate Avatar from the shackles of game development. And when that happens, we’re prepared to go directly online and start popping 10-foot blue things with our big human weapons. This is about survival, ya dig?
It appears that in addition to simply plugging bullets into the creatures, Ubisoft will also be allowing for some form of capture the flag (wait, isn’t this about survival?). Other than that one crucial detail, the only info we gleaned from the multiplayer trailer above is that there’ll be a ton of explosions, even more mid-air flip-kicks, and explosion/flip-kick-laden jungle combat when the game does finally come out. For now, unfortunately, you’ll have to sate yourselves with something totally boring like Modern Warfare 2. Humans against humans? Pssshhht, that’s so mid-November.

One of the biggest surprises to come out of TGS 2009 is the presence of Crackdown 2 — and it’s playable! While the Ruffian Games developed sequel was only just announced at E3, Microsoft decided to let press in Tokyo step into an early build of the new Pacific City. Some textures were missing, and a few glitches popped up, but it was to be expected in what we were told was a game “roughly at 60 percent” complete.
Stay tuned, we’ll post our impressions soon, along with an interview with Ruffian lead designer Steve Iannetta. (Oh, and just in case you were wondering: we mopped the floor with the competition.)

The PAX ‘09 Omegathon wraps up later today, but last night, we snagged some footage of the third round, which was dedicated to Nathan Fillion: The Game Halo 3: ODST. Three teams of four faced off in the new Firefight mode, with the top two teams advancing to the next round. This was the first time that anyone outside of Bungie has played the mode on Legendary difficulty, so there were some neat surprises, including Wraith tanks lobbing plasma at players and Covenant Engineers that bestow overshields to any nearby enemy, even Grunts. The players seated at the big screen also got to try out Sergeant Johnson, instilling them with extra courage and cigar-chomping bravado.
Oh, and a Hunter got stuck in a wall during the third round. See it all in the video above.

When we heard about the upcoming Paramount game The Warriors: Street Brawl back in February, the company had only released gameplay of The Warriors themselves in action. The trailer you see above features another gang from the film — The Lizzies — who are apparently capable of at least one more special move (bringing the total up to two so far).
Aside from re-confirming a Summer release window for the game on PSN/XBLA, the teaser only offers a teensy bit of gameplay. Though considering the fact that the Summer is nearly over, we’re guessing it won’t be long before The Warriors: Street Brawl all over your console’s digital marketplace. Can you dig it?

Will Shadow Complex be this year’s Bionic Commando: Rearmed – ya know, minus all that direct nostalgia? Between the 2D platforming, arsenal of weapons, huge bosses, and frosted camera lens, it’s getting harder and harder for us not to draw the comparison. One thing the new gameplay you see above features that BC:R lacked? Jumping! (Thankfully!)
An Achievement for melee kills (find the whole list after the break) helps to assuage our concerns of, well, not having a robot arm — though anyone with half a brain knows that third-party human being parts beat out melee weapons every time. Hopefully the extra $5 for Shadow Complex over BC:R means those weapons are really sharp when you check them out on August 19.
