OK, don’t get me wrong. The new, remastered versions of the original God of War and God of War II look amazing, especially in comparison to their first appearances on the PlayStation 2, but even with a new coat of high definition paint, they still pale in comparison to next year’s God of War III.
Take this video from the upcoming God of War Collection for example:
Looks great, right? How about this next one?
Also looks fantastic, especially when you match that footage up with what you have in your mind’s eye while thinking about the first time you played God of War and God of War II.
But when you watch the following footage from the demo of God of War III, the differences between the last generation of games and the current generation is easily apparent, with extreme graphical detail on show, and incredible attention to detail as compared to anything the PlayStation 2 could have handled (warning: the following video is extremely graphic):
When God of War Collection for the PS3 releases on November 17th in the US, and next year in Europe, those of us who haven’t yet played God of War or God of War II, and even those who have, will be treated to a great experience, both in terms of gameplay and visuals.
We’ll have to wait until March next year, however, in order to sample the true generational leap represented in God of War III, and to see further examples of the kinds of strides game developers have made moving to next generation videogame hardware.

Sony has announced that gamers who buy the popular sci-fi film District 9 on Blu-ray will also be able to play the God of War III E3 demo.
This is the first time that Sony, or anyone else in the industry, has included a demo and a film on a hybrid disc. God of War fans who complete the demo will also unlock an exclusive making of featurette about God of War III.
The District 9 movie disc will also include a few other special features: an “Interactive Map feature ‘Joburg from Above: Satellite and Schematics of the World of District 9,’ which provides a highly detailed environmental exploration of the world through a series of interactive satellite maps, technology schematics and photo-real files; and movieIQ, which allows viewers to immediately access continuously updated information on the cast & crew and explore relevant trivia such as production facts, music and soundtrack information all tied to scenes within the movie.”

A download voucher for the God of War III E3 demo will also be packed inside the upcoming God of War Collection. The God of War Collection, including both God of War and God of War II, will be available for the PS3 on the 17th of November, but we’ll have to wait a little longer for God of War III which will be arriving in March next year.

Sony has announced that the God of War Collection has gone gold and will be available for the PS3 across North America on the 17th of November.
The God of War Collection includes both God of War and God of War II in HD on a single Blu-ray disc. Of course the new HD versions will also include lots of trophies. God of War III Design Director Todd Papy explains: “Other than all the visual improvements that we added to the God of War Collection, the most exciting part for me was the opportunity to go back and add in full trophy support for both games.”
“Not only will the trophies hopefully be an enjoyable way to check your progress through the game, but they will also give the hard-core God of War fans some serious additional bragging rights. And on a more personal level, the trophies were a really great opportunity for us to share some of our stories and inside jokes from God of War and God of War II.”
For more insight into how Sony picked the trophies as well as a full list of the bronze, silver, gold and platinum trophies to win in God of War and God of War II, head over to SCEA’s PlayStation Blog. Speaking to videogame consumer site 1up, the leader of Team ICO has stated that he would like to see his studio’s previous games, Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, re-released on the PS3 in a combo pack in the same vein as the upcoming God of War Collection. Ueda said of the idea:
“Initially, I didn’t want to consider that; I always thought they were designed for PS2 and should stay there. But lately, I’ve been thinking it would be nice to provide the games to other platforms to reach more users.”
While this kind of initiative would require the support and green light from Sony execs, as well as a bunch of development work in order to truly take advantage of games (such as adding anti-aliasing, support for Trophies and full high-definition resolutions, as with the God of War Collection), at least Ueda would be keen.
He and his team is currently hard at work on the epic-looking The Last Guardian to divert any resources on the minute, though, so don’t expect anything along these lines any time soon…

Earlier in the week Sony revealed that God of War I and II would be coming to the PS3 in a Blu-ray Disc Compilation. The publisher announced that the God of War Collection would be available this holiday season.

Now Sony has announced that the God of War Collection won’t be available in Europe this year. It’s likely that it will only arrive on European shelves in 2010, while American gamers will still be able to enjoy it before the end of the year. Perhaps the publisher will launch it alongside God of War III in Europe, which arrives in March 2010.
“We are currently looking into options to bring God of War I and II to SCEE consumers on PS3; however it will not be possible to release the games this calendar year. We will provide further information in due course,” a spokesperson for Sony said.
Luckily Sony has confirmed that the God of War Collection is region free so you won’t have to wait until then. You also won’t have to wait to gaze at the box art for the game, you can check it out below.

Sony of America has announced that God of War I and II will be coming to the PS3 in a Blu-ray Disc Compilation this holiday season.
Both games in the God of War Collection will be remastered to run at 60 frames per second with anti-aliased graphics in full 1280 x 720 resolution and will include PlayStation Network trophies. The Collection will retail at $39.99.

A great way to get back into the action before God of War III is released for the PS3 in March 2010.
