Xbox LIVE Activity for week of 23/11: Modern Warfare 2 settles in for the long haul

December 2nd, 2009 at 09:04am Under Uncategorized

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 settles into the No. 1 spot on the Xbox LIVE Activity listing this past week, and will probably make itself comfortable for the long haul unless Halo 3, Call of Duty 4 and Call of Duty: World at War can spring some kind of miracle and usurp that game’s dominance in the months to come.

The newly released Madden NFL Arcade slips past the competition and becomes the highest selling Xbox LIVE Arcade title this past week, followed by ‘old-timers’ Peggle (after the release of Peggle Nights) and Trials HD.

A new Xbox LIVE Indie title, The Impossible Game, has finally come along to defeat Avatar Drop and Head Shot 2 in the Xbox LIVE Indie sales list, with I MAED A GAM3 W1TH Z0MB1ES!!!1 following in fourth place.

Xbox LIVE Activity for week of 09/11: Modern Warfare 2 dominates here, too

November 18th, 2009 at 02:25am Under Uncategorized

Ah, it finally happened. Not content to simply stomp on the sales charts around the world, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has stomped its authority on the Xbox LIVE Activity chart this week, easily becoming the No. 1 most played online game on the service.

Xbox LIVE Logo Smaller

Surprisingly (or not), Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare sneaks into the No. 2 position, pushing the reigning champion, Halo 3, into No. 3 in one fell swoop. Another Call of Duty game (World at War) and the Left 4 Dead demo follow in quick succession at No. 4 and No. 5 respectively.

As for the top selling Xbox LIVE Arcade titles, this list is still dominated by Trials HD, while Castle Crashers makes a resurgence past SOUTH PARK LET’S GO TOWER DEFENSE PLAY! at No. 3, to take No. 2 once again.

Speaking of ‘once again’… Avatar Drop and I MAED A GAM3 W1TH Z0MB1ES!!!1 find themselves in the list of the top three best selling Xbox LIVE Indie games, as Head Shot 2 (sequel to the ‘inimitable’ Head Shot and prior chart stomper) takes No. 1.

Xbox LIVE Activity for week of 26/10: ‘Oh look, Halo 3’ Edition

November 4th, 2009 at 01:25am Under Uncategorized

Enjoy it while it lasts, Halo 3, because while you may be at the top of the Xbox LIVE Activity Chart this week… and maybe next week and possibly the week after, it can’t possibly last after the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 over the week of November 17th. Soak it up.

Xbox LIVE Logo Smaller

In fact, the assault on Halo 3’s dominance may start a little early, after Xbox LIVE’s Deal of the Week this week reduced the price of Call of Duty 4’s Variety Map Pack by half, which gives just that little bit more of an incentive for CoD 4 (currently at No. 2 on the activity chart) players to get online and shoot some fools in the face in a variety of different ways. cough

Top selling Xbox LIVE Arcade titles for this week include Trials HD (once again) at No. 1, SOUTH PARK LET’S GO TOWER DEFENSE PLAY! at No. 2 and Zombie Apocalypse at No. 3.

The Xbox LIVE Indie Games sales list is mixed up a tiny bit as Avatar Drop reaches No. 1 and I MAED A GAM3 W1TH Z0MB1ES!!!1 shifts down to No. 2, with the ever-present Headshot sitting stubbornly at No. 3.

Xbox LIVE Activity for week of 19/10: Halo 3 dominates again

October 28th, 2009 at 08:20am Under Uncategorized

Halo 3 once again sits atop the Xbox LIVE Activity Chart for who-knows-how-many time in a row (a lot!), but it had better be savouring every last second it remains at No. 1, because that big ‘ole gorilla, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, is releasing inside of two weeks from now, and if history has any say, it’s going to wipe Halo 3 away and claim No. 1 for itself.

Xbox LIVE Logo Smaller

That’s not to say Halo 3 won’t put up any kind of fight – with the release of Halo 3: ODST (which you can read out review of over here), this two year old game is still giving the new kids on the block a run for their money, so it’s going to be extremely interesting to see how the chart shakes out in the future.

On the best-selling Xbox LIVE Arcade Chart, Trials HD manages to climb its way back to the top, followed by SOUTH PARK LET’S GO TOWER DEFENSE PLAY! and the more recent title, Tower Bloxx Deluxe.

Something needs to be done about the Xbox LIVE Indie Games sales chart… once again, we have Avatar Drop, I MAED A GAM3 W1TH Z0MB1ES!!!1 and Headshot in the top three… c’mon indie developers! Make us some new hits!

Halo 3: ODST Review

October 28th, 2009 at 07:49am Under Uncategorized

Say what you will about the space opera-esque story of the Halo series, but Bungie has consistently delivered the most solid, well designed console first-person shooter experience since the original Halo on the original Xbox, only recently matched by offerings such as Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and, to a lesser extent, Killzone 2, but there’s something inexplicably delicious about the combination of gunplay, level design and freestyle sandbox gameplay on hand in every Halo game.

Xbox LIVE Activity for week of 12/10: Halo 3 rocks the chart

October 22nd, 2009 at 08:03am Under Uncategorized

While it’s not really a surprise at this point, Halo 3 has managed remain at the top of the Xbox LIVE Activity Chart for the umpteenth time in a row. Again, not surprising, but still mightily impressive, although this scenario is bound to change once a certain other game releases (Hint: begins with a ‘C’, and ends with a ‘all of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’).

The situation may even change on the run-up to that game’s release, as fans of the series try to sharpen their Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare skills, which is a game that now sits at No. 2 on the chart, while Call of Duty: World at War, Halo 3: ODST and Gears of War 2 make up the rest of the top five.

Hasbro Family Game Night (and all of its additions and expansions) makes it to the top of the Xbox LIVE Arcade sales chart this week thanks to a Deal of the Week that temporarily lowered the various games’ prices, as SOUTH PARK LET’S GO TOWER DEFENSE PLAY! and Trials HD follow in hot pursuit.

Things are once again looking pretty samey on the Xbox LIVE Indie sales chart, with Avatar Drop at No. 1, I MAED A GAM3 W1TH Z0MB1ES!!!1 at No. 2, and Headshot at No. 3.

Halo Waypoint debut walkthrough trailer reveals all

October 20th, 2009 at 06:09am Under Uncategorized

Halo Waypoint Logo

A debut trailer for Xbox LIVE’s new Halo Waypoint has been released, but what exactly is Halo Waypoint?

Well, in short, it’s a new destination on Xbox LIVE specifically for Halo fans, featuring what seems like an enormous amount of information on everything to do with the universe, including developer created and community submitted content, with additions to the service hitting everyday.

Halo Waypoint will also apparently feature content “you won’t be able to get anywhere else,” including streaming episodes of the upcoming animated anime renditions of Halo, Halo Legends. Halo Waypoint will also act as a tracker of your Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST and Halo Wars (and DLC for those titles) achievements, building up your ‘Halo Career’ in numbers and statistics.

Halo Waypoint launches November 5th on the Games Marketplace and Games on Demand sections of Xbox LIVE, and will be available to all Xbox LIVE Gold members on launch, and to Silver members for a limited timeframe after launch.

Watch the debut walkthrough trailer for Halo Waypoint below to see what the service looks like in action:

October 14th, 2009 at 04:51am Under Uncategorized

Bungie veterans form Moonshot Games

October 8th, 2009 at 04:14am Under Uncategorized

Moonshot Games Logo

It’s been announced that three developers from mega-developers Bungie (they made something called ‘Halo’) have left the safety and sanctity of the venerable development house and formed their own studio, Moonshot Games.

Moonshot, headquartered in Seattle and with engineering support in Boston, will focus on creating smaller, downloadable titles as opposed to monoliths such as Halo.

The principles of Moonshot are Michel Bastien who will act as managing director (formerly a producer on Halo 2 and 3), Rob Stokes as creative director (who was a writer and mission director on Halo 2 and 3) and Damian Isla as technology director (who used to be an engineer back at Bungie).

Moonshot Games’ stated charter is to explore “the uncharted spaces of high-quality downloadable games,” and using their experience from creating multiple triple-A quality titles, they aim to build their games “smartly on a modest budget.”

The formation of Moonshot by former Bungie developers follows that of Wideload Games (Stubbs the Zombie) by Bungie co-founder Alex Seropian, as well as Certain Affinity formed by Max Hoberman, a ten-year employee at Bungie.
