inFamous getting a price cut and free DLC this December

PS3 owners in the US who haven’t yet picked up inFamous, the excellent modern-day superhero game released earlier this year, will have a little bit of an extra incentive to do so with the announced price drop for the action adventure title.

As of October this year, inFamous has sold over 1.2 million copies, and to celebrate, not only has the price of the game dropped down to $39.99, a piece of downloadable content (DLC), the ‘Gigawatt Blades’ super power, will become available for free on the PlayStation Network as of December 10th.

inFAMOUS movie in the works

News on the street is that Sucker Punch’s popular videogame inFAMOUS is heading to the big screen.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, screenwriter Sheldon Turner (he who wrote the screenplay for The Longest Yard remake and co-wrote Up in the Air) approached Sony Pictures with a plan to turn the videogame into a feature film, a deal reportedly worth seven figures. The studio’s sister company Sony Computer Entertainment published the game and the studio is said to be negotiating a deal for the rights to the game.

Avi Arad and Ari Arad will handle production duties (executive producers on The Incredible Hulk and Iron Man). Avi Arad is no stranger to videogame to movie adaptations, currently in charge of production of the adaptation of Naughty Dog’s Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune.

“What excited me most about the game was it was the first of which I’ve come across that had a big idea and a character arc,” Turner said. “It is, I believe, the future of gaming. The game, while big and fun, is at its core a love ballad to the underachiever, which is what our hero, Cole McGrath, is.”

inFAMOUS launched exclusively for the PS3 in March and centers on Cole MacGrath, a bike messenger who finds himself with electricity-derived super powers after an explosion destroys part of Empire City. Players must now decide whether to use these powers for good or evil. You can find out more about the game in El33tonline’s review of inFAMOUS.

In the celebration of all things great and American, we’re proud to present the characters of inFamous and Prototype cross-dressing. YAY! (See inFamous‘ Cole after the break.)

Okay, so you’re probably wondering where these images came from. Yahtzee presented a challenge to the development teams of these two games after he couldn’t decide which game was better in a recent episode of Zero Punctuation. So, he jokingly said the “winner” would be whichever team sends in an image of the other game’s protagonist cross-dressing.

And now the world is a much better place.

Canadian Best Buy offers $30 inFamous, $10 Patapon 2

According to Best Buy’s “Summer of Savings” flier, Canadian gamers are getting some seriously discounted games. PSP owners can pick up Resistance Retribution ($15) and Patapon 2 ($10), while PS3 owners will be able to get this summer’s big PS3 blockbuster, inFamous, for only $30. Once again, these deals are Canada only — our American readers can finally be jealous of our mounty-lovin’ friends up north.
