During a recent Ubisoft preview event, Michael McIntyre, director of level design for Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, talked to Joystiq about the new sequel to the old trilogy, establishing its connection to the Sands of Time game series and the Bruckheimer film. The Forgotten Sands is a side story, based in the Sands of Time universe, bridging the seven-year gap between the original Sands of Time game and its sequel, Warrior Within.
Clearly, Ubisoft has positioned the next game to piggyback on the Bruckheimer blockbuster and ideally generate renewed sales for the brand (which underperformed in its 2008 iteration). Forgotten Sands is also an opportunity for Ubisoft to finally justify the Prince’s remarkable transformation from carefree hero to brooding, emo warrior.
Continue reading for our full interview with Michael McIntyre — after the break — in which he reveals new (and rewinding revisited) elements in the game and the return of a familiar voice.

As you might imagine, it’s kind of hard to believe the words coming out of someone’s mouth when a gold wrestling championship belt is gleaming in our eyes, which is why we’re not sure what to believe coming from the mysterious “Adam” regarding a possible Splinter Cell Conviction demo coming this January. Seen with the Hip-Hop Gamer in a video after the break, Adam — a gentleman who Ubisoft wouldn’t confirm to us is an actual employee — seemingly announces the existence of an upcoming Conviction demo.
When asked by the eccentric interviewer about the possibility, Adam responds, “It’s coming out in January, and then the actual game: February 23rd.” We asked Ubisoft for verification of Adam’s words, and were told by a rep, “I cannot confirm a demo at this time.” So, anyone know Adam?

Nintendo’s focus on “evergreen” titles has been a staple of the publisher for years now, with marketing support lasting longer than ever with this generation’s major releases. So it surprised us last April when the company said it hoped “word of mouth” would help push GTA: Chinatown Wars‘ lackluster initial sales higher as the months progressed. However, when executive vice president Cammie Dunaway recently spoke with MTV Multiplayer, Nintendo’s traditional message quickly returned. “Part of what’s needed is you have to continue to put marketing support behind these titles.”
She also called sales “frustrating, quite frankly,” but declined to comment on Rockstar’s marketing surrounding the release of the game. Dunaway remained diplomatic through the conversation though, only offering, “The old dynamic of ‘throw it on television for a few weeks and then move on and forget it’ just doesn’t work,” giving us little more than a taste of her real feelings behind the release’s marketing push. Check out the whole clip after the break.

After the release of the recent multiplayer trailer for the upcoming James Cameron’s Avatar: The Game, Ubisoft has felt the need to follow it up with a video developer diary, which includes a bunch of the game’s developers, as well as James Cameron himself, speaking about the mysterious, beautiful world of Pandora and the struggle for survival taking place on the planet’s surface.
The developers (and Cameron) also detail some of the advanced weaponry you’ll have access to during the game while playing as the militaristic RDA Corporation, as well as how the tribal N’avi can hope to survive against such weapons.
Watch the intriguing James Cameron’s Avatar: The Game developer diary below:
If you watched the trailer, you would have seen Brent George, the art/animation director on Avatar: The Game, briefly giving his thoughts on the title – El33tonline spoke with George in depth at rAge 2009 this year, so be sure to give our entertaining interview a listen over here.
Don’t forget that Avatar: The Game releases this Friday (December 4th) in Europe, and December 8th in North America – read El33tonline’s hands-on preview of the game and our previous coverage to find out more.

Also discussed during the developer diary is the implementation of a ‘home’ for Ezio, which will act as a repository for all of his accumulated possessions, with in-game footage to show off some of the goods. Watch below:
