December 10th, 2009 at 03:45pm Under Xbox 360

Have you been hoping, nay, dreaming of snagging one of the Tekken 6 arcade stick bundles but have been hesitant to plunk down the $150 asking price? This post is for you then, as Amazon has positively slashed the price of the bundle on both PS3 and 360 version, knocking them down to a paltry $78. Seventy-eight bones! That’s only $18 bucks more than your average game and it includes the Tekken 6 Hori arcade stick to boot.

If you, or the digital pugilist in your life, haven’t picked this up yet, it probably won’t get much cheaper than this.

Namco prepares a Raging Blast of Dragon Ball DLC

November 25th, 2009 at 06:47pm Under Xbox 360

If there’s one thing Dragon Ball has, it’s a giant, sprawling cast of unique characters. Namco Bandai understands this, so it will be offering new downloadable characters for Dragon Ball: Raging Blast every two weeks from now until April of 2010. Best of all, the downloads will be free. Each pack will include “customized versions of popular characters, each with different powered-up abilities.” In other words, if the initial lineup of characters just wasn’t enough, soon you’ll have remixed versions on top of the current cast.

Check out the full DLC schedule after the break. Unless otherwise noted, the DLC will release simultaneously on XBLM and PSN.

Swag Saturday: Tekken 6 (360)

November 21st, 2009 at 07:00pm Under Xbox 360

Here it is, folks: your chance to beat up relatives all throughout the holiday season, albeit from the relative safeness of Tekken 6’s confines! For this week’s Swag Saturday, we’re giving out a copy of Tekken 6 for the Xbox 360 to one lucky commenter who tells us which fictitious holiday character (think: Santa, the Easter Bunny) they’d like to beat up the most, and with which Tekken 6 character they’d like to do so with. Fancy a battle of Kuma vs The Tooth Fairy? Perhaps Jack-6 vs George Washington (wait, he was real?!)? We want to hear about it!

  • Leave a comment telling us which fictitious holiday character (Santa, the Easter Bunny, etc.) you’d like to beat up most, and with which Tekken 6 character they’d like to do so with.
  • You must be 18 years or older and a resident of the US or Canada (excluding Quebec, mostly due to the gravitational quotient of poutine)
  • Limit 1 entry per person per day
  • This entry period ends at 6:01PM ET on Sunday, November 22
  • At that time, we’ll randomly select one winner to receive one copy of Tekken 6 for Xbox 360 ($60 ARV).
  • For a list of complete rules, click here

What is Joyswag? Since we don’t keep the games and merchandise we receive for review or promotional purposes, it becomes “Joyswag,” which is passed along to our readers. For more info on our policy, click here.

The gotta-have-it item is obviously the Instant Anime Character Costume, which features an orange t-shirt, blue wristbands, hair gel and completely ridiculous Namco employee pose cover art. Oh, if only our legal department would let us keep it!

  • Leave a comment telling us who your favorite character from the Dragon Ball series is (full list here)
  • You must be 18 years or older and a resident of the US or Canada (excluding Quebec)
  • Limit 1 entry per person per day
  • This entry period ends at 11:59AM ET on Tuesday, November 24

Namco Bandai posts $66.7 million loss for first half of year

November 6th, 2009 at 01:40pm Under Wii / Nintendo

Namco Bandai has reported a net loss of ¥6.04 billion ($66.7 million) for the first half of its fiscal year, which began in April. During the same period last year, the company posted a net income of ¥1.28 billion ($14.14 million). Despite this year’s first-half hiccup, the publisher still expects to earn ¥8.5 billion ($93.6 million) in net income by the end of its fiscal year (ending March 31, 2010). After all, there are those 2.5 million copies of Tekken 6 waiting to be sold.

Namco Bandai’s software sales for the period were led by the Ben 10 franchise, as Alien Force and Protector of the Earth combined to sell approximately 810,000 units (not exactly Guitar Hero numbers, eh?). Even with Tekken 6 in its second-half roster, Namco must be pulling for a miracle. But then, the holidays are a magical time.

Tekken 6 online patch in the works, says Namco

November 4th, 2009 at 07:20pm Under Xbox 360

Those of you taking your King of the Iron Fist Tournament fighters to the internet have been experiencing some major issues, notably: when trying to compete online in any sort of meaningful way, you’re met with acute, game-ending connectivity issues. Namco recognized that today and issued a response, stating, “To improve the online game experience for players … Namco Bandai games is developing a downloadable update which will be available as soon as it has passed rigorous testing procedures.”

Unfortunately, no date for the patch has been given, though the publisher does add, “This is separate from the online co-op Scenario Campaign mode update.” We’ve pestered Namco for more details on exactly what the patch will aim to fix and when we might hear more about it but, until that time, know this: something is being fixed at some point.

Namco Bandai considering Tales of Vesperia sequel

October 18th, 2009 at 03:00pm Under Xbox 360

During an event celebrating the recent theatrical release of Tales of Vesperia: The First Strike in Japan, Namco Bandai’s Makoto Yoshizumi said there is a strong internal desire to develop a sequel to Xbox 360 and PlayStation Tales of Vesperia. According to Yoshizumi, staff have questioned whether a Vesperia 2 is in the publishers future, leaving him to jokingly respond, “Don’t talk like a fan!” “We’re thinking about it,” he told press during the creator discussion in Japan’s Shinjuku district.

According to the panel, Vesperia’s story is far from over as Namco Bandai is already brainstorming ideas if the opportunity for a new film in the series arises. “I don’t know when it will happen, but we’d like to show [these things] in video form,” Namco Bandai’s general manager told those in attendance. Hopefully Namco Bandai will release a potential sequel for all platforms simultaneously, otherwise we may have a repeat situation of angry Japanese gamers on our hands.

Japanese Nintendo Downloads: Galaxian heads to the Tecmo Bowl

September 29th, 2009 at 04:45pm Under Wii / Nintendo

Following last week’s drought due to the public holiday, Nintendo has turned the download faucet back on in Japan. It’s another week free of WiiWare, but there’s certainly enough Virtual Console material to make up for it. Outside of a trio of VC Arcade titles, we’ve got a Super Famicom tactical RPG classic:

TGS 2009: Japanese developers love on Project Natal

September 25th, 2009 at 08:44pm Under Xbox 360

If there was any doubt left in your mind that Japanese developers are on board for using Project Natal, we’ve got seven fancy, high-powered Japanese developers ready to convince you of their dedication in video form — in case you didn’t know, all the cool kids are doing it.

Above, we’ve dropped Capcom’s Keiji Inafune. He sees Natal as an “enhancement” rather than a replacement, saying the current controllers prevent game developers from creating “games without limits.” This of course begs the question: What happens when you combine Garry’s Mod and Project Natal? Our guess: Madness.

Peep developers from Tecmo, Namco, Kojima Productions, Konami, From Software and Sega extolling Natal’s many virtues after the break.

Namco just sent word that its side-scrolling beat-em-up, Invincible Tiger: The Legend of Han Tao, will be available on Xbox Live and PSN this week. No word on price for the title as of yet, but can you really put a price on the ancient art of kung fu? Actually, we might be thinking of a different Kung Fu

Anyway, we’ve put in for comment on price and will be sure to update you all as soon as we hear something.
Invincible Tiger costs 1200 MS Points or $15.
