Developers Naughty Dog have promised that more downloadable content for Uncharted 2 is in the pipeline.
This news comes via a post on their website which notified Uncharted 2 gamers that a live update is now available to fix a few glitches in The Fort multiplayer map.

According to the post: “That’s all for now, but we have been actively working on a bunch of things big and small to support our multiplayer fans. We wanted to take this opportunity to give you an idea of what is still to come.”
“Just like what our update to ‘The Fort’ today, we’ll be addressing exploitable glitches in other multiplayer maps in the very near future. After those go through, we will be keeping a very close eye on multiplayer games to see if any new exploits arise that need to be addressed.”
“Speaking of ‘The Fort,’ we’ve got more than that currently in our downloadable content pipeline. Many of us at the studio have been feverishly working on more DLC for multiplayer since UNCHARTED 2 went gold. You’ll be hearing more about our plans in the future.”

As hinted at earlier in the week, Naughty Dog has announced that the first downloadable game content for Uncharted 2 will be available this Friday. The update will include a new multiplayer map called ‘The Fort’ as well as leaderboards and player cards – and it’s for free!

The Fort is a throwback map based on the ‘Fortress’ chapter of Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune. Described as a “long rectangular map with wide open spaces and excellent flank routes,” the map enables enemies to use the basement tunnels to get behind the opposing team. Look out for the shotgun in the center of the map and the RPG in the side room in the crypt. The Fort will be available in all Competitive Playlists as well as the Co-op Arena Playlist.
The update will also add Leaderboards and a player card to the Multiplayer menu. Players will be able to check their standings on the Global stats in Competitive Wins, Co-op, Kills and Money. Meanwhile the new player card will provide players with an “instant snapshot of [their] vitals” as they move between matches, including “level, competitive wins, kills, money, co-op points and [their] current booster loadout.”

Stay tuned because Naughty Dog also hinted that we can expect further Uncharted 2 content: “Oh, and don’t be surprised if that’s not the only delicious thing we’re doing for you this weekend.”

Just before the NPD results for October were released Sony announced that its popular PS3 exclusive action adventure from Naughty Dog, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, had reached the 1 million sales mark within one month of launch.

Yesterday at the BMO Capital Markets Digital Entertainment Conference Sony’s senior vice president of strategic business development, Phil Ronsenberg, commented “Uncharted 2 has become the highest rated current exclusive action adventure game on any platform with a Metacritic score of 96. It’s the second highest rated PS3 game ever. We’ve already sold over a million copies through last week in just a couple weeks on the market.”
Since then the NPD numbers have revealed that Uncharted 2 was the top-selling game across North America in October with 537 00 copies sold, so it’s very conceivable that Sony’s numbers are on target.

Naughty Dog has released a fresh batch of Behind the Scenes videos for Uncharted 2.

Although players could unlock seven Behind the Scenes videos on the Uncharted 2 disc, the developer has added five more videos to the mix. These extra videos take a closer look at how the developers “cinematics process worked and gives you a look at all the actors in Uncharted 2, details about the rehearsals, [their] motion capture process, and a look at how [they] did A.D.R. on the game.”

In an interview
with IndustryGamers, creative director at Naughty Dog, Amy Hennig, has confirmed that downloadable content (DLC) for the developer’s latest title, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, will be available before the end of the year. In response to a question about DLC, Hennig said:
“We’re working on that now, and what we’re prepared to say is that there will be DLC available before the end of the year. Without going into specifics, it’ll involve new maps, new characters, things like that. Some of it will be free of charge and some of it will be purchasable.”
This is in line with previous comments by Naughty Dog’s multiplayer designer, Justin Richmond, who said that the team is currently working on DLC to be released in the near future.
Elsewhere in the interview, Hennig comments on the fans’ expectations, as well as the developer’s expectations, for Uncharted 2 prior to release, all of which have been exceeded:
“I would definitely say it’s exceeding expectations. Being in the industry for a while you learn to try to manage your expectations because you’d rather be surprised with good news than disappointed.
“It’s a tough business, but from the early numbers I’ve seen getting reported back it’s exceeded any estimates we had internally, and it’s certainly outsold the first game by many, many times. That and the critical reception so far has been really gratifying.”

A Naughty Dog developer going by the handle of ReklissAbandon recently posted on the official PlayStation message board that the long-rumoured, long-awaited PlayStation Network feature, cross-game chat, would be making an appearance in the next PlayStation 3 firmware update, no doubt making a few PS3 owners’ dreams come true.
While replying to a request on the forum for enemy spectating in Naughty Dog’s Uncharted 2, ReklissAbandon posted:
“I think they wanted people to have fun and [enjoy] the show since all dead players can talk to each other no matter what team you are on. But I will suggest it anyway.
“Not to mention that the next PS3 firmware update is going to allow cross game chat. So if players use that instead of in game communication then they would also be able to communicate [enemy’s] positions.”
The post was subsequently deleted, leading to rampant speculation over the truth of the statement.
While cross-game text chat has been available since firmware update 2.70, cross-game voice chat, as pointed out by Kotaku, is yet to make an appearance. Sony’s response to the speculation predictably was as follows:
“As you know, we haven’t made any announcements on upcoming firmware and don’t comment on rumor or speculation.”
We’ll just have to wait and see in the next PS3 firmware update, then!

First we had Microsoft’s Major Nelson announcing that he would be picking up a copy of the PS3 exclusive Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, and now Insomniac Games (Ratchet & Clank, Resistance) has revealed that they believe Naughty Dog have raised the bar in game’s development with Nathan Drake’s latest adventure.

The comment was made by Ryan Schneider, Community Director of Insomniac Games, on SCEA’s PlayStation Blog. In reply to a suggestion that Insomniac should be jealous of Naughty Dog, Schneider commented “We’re not jealous of the Dogs at all. We all try to encourage each other to raise the bar in game’s development and they really did w/ Uncharted 2!”
If you haven’t yet begun the new Uncharted 2 adventure, make sure you pick up a copy, it should be out on most shelves around the world by now.
