Nintendo is holding a little family-friendly launch fiesta for New Super Marios Bros. Wii this Saturday, November 14, at its flagship store in New York City. The House of Mario will “transform” Rockefeller Plaza into the Mushroom Kingdom, providing demo stations, “costumed characters, trivia challenges, prize giveaways (while supplies last).”
The event takes place from 3-7PM and NSMBW is available to purchase early from the Nintendo World Store during that time. The game officially launches the following day, November 15. If getting it a day early seems worth the trip, remember to add NYC’s lovely (8.875%) sales tax to your budget.

No, that isn’t your high school gym teacher (pictured right), that’s Weezer front man Rivers Cuomo and he’s joining with Nintendo to help launch the upcoming Pop-centric music title, Band Hero. Tomorrow, November 1, beginning at 11AM (EDT) at the Nintendo World Store in Rockefeller Plaza, players will have a chance to play both the Nintendo Wii and DS versions of the game before lining up for an exclusive autograph session with the singer from 3PM to 4PM.
Need more incentive to join the party? The first fifty players in line will walk away with a pre-release copy of the game to call their own and other random giveaways. Finally, you yourself can interrupt your sister’s Taylor Swift karaoke sessions in homage to Kanye West’s VMA performance. We call that, “emergent gameplay.”

Under Xbox 360
Nothing to us seems more right than sitting down in a comfy chair, in front of an HD monitor, and getting some
Halo 3 on. And that’s exactly what the fine gentleman above did at a New York public library recently, borrowing the free Wi-Fi for a little Xbox Live.
According to Flickr user ‘dynatrite‘ who snapped this picture with his iPhone, the whole schebang took “20 minutes to set up” and “2 minutes to get [him] kicked out.” We’re not exactly shocked, considering the reported items include “a monitor, Xbox [360], Wi-Fi router, external HD, earphones with mouthpiece, and a controller” — that last, crucial piece being hidden below a copy of the New York Post. We can’t help but wonder if somewhere in that library, if you listened carefully enough, a faint “Killjoy!” could be heard when he was caught. Maybe, just maybe.

Under Wii / Nintendo
We know, friends — you’ve been waiting patiently for months for Nintendo to announce plans to turn Times Square into Wii Sports Resort’s Wuhu Island. Today — finally! — Nintendo did just that, revealing its intentions to convert Military Island in New York City’s Times Square into a replica of the game’s imaginary setting, featuring “a sandy beach, swimming pool and tropical lounge.” To attend, all you have to do is show up at NYC’s Times Square between 9AM and 3PM next Thursday, July 23 — you’ll even nab a (presumably free) “tropical non-alcoholic drink.”
Oh, but what about actually playing the game, you ask? You’ll have plenty of opportunity afforded you, given the “experts in various sports going head-to-head with fans” during the event. Make sure to tighten that Wiimote wrist strap so as not to “accidentally” chuck it at any of the cars passing by — the urge to ragequit after getting schooled by someone’s mom can be rather strong … we hear.
