Huzzah! No more of your intense Headquarters Pro matches will be interrupted by gargantuan, killer shockwaves expelled by morally dubious combatants. That is to say, Modern Warfare 2’s Javelin glitch, which enabled a dirty, cheating player to instantly detonate upon death, was fixed earlier this morning by a patch for the Xbox 360 version of the game. According to a recent tweet from Infinity Ward’s Robert Bowling, the PS3 version of the game has already received the patch.
In addition to removing the Javelin’s unadvertised self-immolation feature, the patch also fixes the equally insidious “unlimited care packages” glitch, and fixes a few areas where players could exploit gaps in the game’s geography. In a perfect world, Infinity Ward would have also sent parcels to the houses of anyone who leveraged these exploits — parcels full of bees. The bad kind. The kind you see on the Discovery Channel. The ones that can kill a full-grown elephant with a surprisingly small swarm.

In its ongoing support of Left 4 Dead 2 on the PC, Valve has issued another patch for the game, fixing a number of problems including physics crashes and hit boxes on the Charger, Jockey and Spitter. Some of the exploits PC gamers have stumbled upon have also been eradicated, including incapped survivors improving their weapon accuracy by holding the crouch button — though we wouldn’t call that an exploit so much as a natural evolution in the face of the zombie threat. Good, old-fashioned human ingenuity is what will win us this war, people!
You can head past the break for the full patch notes. An update for the Xbox 360 will be available “later this month.”

If you’re one of the unlucky Assassin’s Creed 2 players who’ve been wandering around the Hideout for days, with no way to get back into the playground of Ezio’s memories, you’ll be relieved to know that a new freedom patch is on the way. It’ll launch for PS3 today and on December 11 for Xbox 360.
The patch promises to fix the Sequence 11 glitch and many others (the list may contain spoilers for you), including a bug that allows Ezio to walk on air in “extremely rare occasions.” We didn’t know about that one, but now we’re going to miss it.

North American Assassin’s Creed II owners, on the other hand, will be able to get the patch “soon.”

Another flurry of Twitter tweets has revealed that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s next patch, 1.06, is currently in certification at Microsoft and will arrive in due course. From a post by Infinity Ward’s Robert Bowling:
“For those playing [MW2] on Xbox 360. The same fixes that are in 1.06 are coming to you, it’s currently in Microsoft cert. Out of my hands.”
Bowling also reminds players that, while Microsoft will be suspending those of you who choose to take advantage of current glitches in the game from Xbox LIVE, Sony chose not to punish players in this way. According to Bowling:
“No. PSN chose to not take any action against glitchers.”
Bowling also goes on to detail what the current PS3 patch, 1.06, actually does:
“PS3 update 1.06 is the javelin fix, care package glitch fix, and addresses areas where players could get into geo. Like rocks on Afghan.”
So Xbox 360 owners will just have to sit tight for now, unfortunately.

According to a report on CVG, Assassin’s Creed II currently contains a potentially game-stopping bug that manages to trap players in one area without the ability to escape, forcing players to restart the game from the beginning in order to progress.
The area in question is the Hideout level, and apparently the most effective way to get trapped in there is to save your game after completing chapter 11 of the game, and then quitting the game. Upon returning to the game, you may just be trapped in Hideout with no means of escape, except to start over and replay the game up until that point.
According to an entry on Ubisoft’s forums, the publisher is aware of the problem, as a community developer posted:
“Some users have been experiencing issue during Sequence 11. What has been reported is that when you return to the present in sequence 11 IF you shut off your console when you start back up you are in the hideout and you can’t go back in the Animus.
”We are aware of this problem, and we are glad to say that it will be solved through our upcoming patch.”
So what can you do in the meantime? Well, short of not playing Assassin’s Creed II until the patch is released, maybe just don’t shut off your game until you’re well passed chapter 11?

Oh, you think it’s funny, making your virtual soldier explode with the force of a small supernova every time he gets killed? Yeah, we suppose it is. Know what else is funny? Getting banned from Xbox Live. Oh, wait, did we say funny? We meant really unpleasant. However, according to Xbox Live’s Director of Policy and Enforcement, Stephen Toulouse, using Modern Warfare 2’s Javelin glitch (an unsavory practice demoed in this video) is cheating, as defined by the service’s Terms of Use. According to Toulouse, anyone caught self-detonating will be banned for 24 hours, or if caught repeatedly, two weeks.
For us honest folk, it seems the wait for a patch, which will cull the kamikaze epidemic, will be short. Infinity Ward’s Robert Bowling tweeted yesterday that a fix is currently being tested, and, “once it’s cleared, we’ll be urging it through Microsoft & Sony certification as fast as possible.” Keep the fire, troops. We can make it through this thing together.

After a flurry of Twitter tweets from people in the know, it seems the infamous ‘Javelin Glitch’ in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s online multiplayer is in the process of being fixed.
Here’s Infinity Ward’s Creative Strategist Robert Bowling:
“Javelin Glitch fix currently in test. Once it’s cleared, we’ll be urging it through Microsoft & Sony certification as fast as possible.”
This was followed up by a Twitter entry from Director of Policy and Enforcement for Xbox LIVE, Stephen Toulouse, warning abusers of the glitch that they would face a suspension from Xbox LIVE:
“While IW works on getting the MW2 glitch fixed, people we catch using it will [receive] suspensions from LIVE. Play fair everyone. :>”
In an effort to lend a helping hand and push Infinity Ward’s glitch fix through the pipes as soon as possible, Xbox mouthpiece Larry ‘Major Nelson’ Hryb tweeted in reply to Robert Bowling’s entry:
“Thanks for the update….I’ll put pressure on from my side as well.”
The Javelin Glitch in question involves players exploiting Modern Warfare 2’s more explosive weaponry in online play in combination with running perks, effectively turning you into a suicide bomber ready to explode on death, taking multiple victims with you.
Don’t do it, or else you’ll be faced with a two week ban on Xbox LIVE.
A patch for the glitch will arrive for PC Modern Warfare 2 players as soon as it’s ready, while PS3 and Xbox 360 users will need to wait for Sony and Microsoft to approve the update, which could mean it’ll be with us anytime from today until some time next week.

Insomniac Games has announced that a new patch for Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time is now live. Patch 1.20 addresses challenge mode, the good Samaritan trophy bug and the Valkyrie boss glitch.
The Valkyrie battle crash bug saw the players “getting shot and dying at the moment the boss is defeated, or while the Valkyrie ship is still blowing up, ” causing the game to freeze. The challenge mode save bug happened if the player “backs out of the auto-save which appears when initiating challenge mode.” The patch will fix both of these bugs, and instructions will be given on how players can restart the Challenge mode playthrough.

Finally the good Samaritan trophy bug popped its head up if the player “acquires the RYNO V from the Smuggler before finishing all of the Smuggler side-missions, the Smuggler will sometimes disappear, making it impossible to finish his quests.” The patch means that all the quests the player missed once the RYNO V was equipped will be auto-completed and the trophy will be unlocked.
El33tonline enjoyed their time spent with Ratchet & Clank, calling it a “fun, well-polished and oft-times challenging adventure game that boasts serious production value.” Read our review of the game to find out more.

According to an entry appearing on Media Molecule’s official Twitter account, the new 1.21 update (known as Leerdammer) for LittleBigPlanet is now live and available for PS3 owners to download and enjoy. From the tweet:
“LittleBigPlanet’s huge new update 1.21, aka Leerdammer… is now LIVE! Right now! GET!
”
What exactly do you get in the new update? A whole bunch!
First up is the ability to “create with up to three other players online,” in LittleBigPlanet’s new ‘Online Create’ mode, allowing you to create entire levels with friends or strangers from around the world.
Media Molecule has also improved the game’s networking code and the way the game finds players for you to play with online, searching for players who are closer to you in order to reduce your ping, and therefore solve lag and “other networking problems.”

The LittleBigPlanet developer has also streamlined data and game saving, so not only will you save data faster, but you’ll be able to save “way more stuff.”
In order to facilitate the moving, saving and backing up of your profile and levels, Media Molecule has added two new tools, namely the ‘Profile Backup’ (accessed in the ‘Profile Settings’ page of the Start Menu) and the Level Backup tools.
The Profile Backup tool will do what it says – “create a back-up copy of your profile, progress, and your levels into a folder in the Save Data Utility” on your PS3, which can be used to copy your profile to another PS3. You can also use this tool to import a profile.
The Level Backup tool is also straightforward – you can now back-up individual levels, via a new option in the level options menu when you’ve got a custom level selected, allowing you to back-up and import levels.

The last major addition to LittleBigPlanet is the increase in your individual profile space, essentially doubling “the number of photos and costumes that you can save to Popit.”
Other new LittleBigPlanet features introduced with patch 1.21 include:
- If you play a level but do not complete it, a silver Sackboy medal will be displayed on the badge, to get a gold medal you must complete the level.
- We made the LittleBigStore a bit easier to navigate and also to download things after purchase.
- There is now an option to ‘Auto-Reject’ invitations from other players. The option is in ‘Profile Settings’. If you have this set to ‘On, no one will be able to join you unless you choose to ‘Play Online’. This setting is not saved to your profile and needs to be set every time you play.
- Sticker switches have been made more noticeable and give better feedback to the player when attempting to place stickers on them.
- Checkpoints can now be activated using switches.
- Race Gates can be made thin again!
- You can now use the Sticker and Decoration tool and turn Sackboy around while in Customisation mode.
- Added the QWERTY keyboard layout to the text chat menu.
- Play, Create, Share scores have been removed – we thought these scores were a good idea but they never worked in the way we wanted them to. They may return one day. Maybe.
- If you collect a key whilst playing a community level, you will now see the level unlocking for you once the level you are playing has been completed. You can also search for linked levels in the search menu.
- Pressing L2 and R2 while browsing community levels can now show you the name or the author of each level on the earth as well as the Heart Count and Rating.
If you’ve got LittleBigPlanet, now would be a good time to get that patch!
