This Week on the Nintendo Channel: Pokemon on TV

October 5th, 2009 at 03:17pm Under Wii / Nintendo

Like this week’s NintendoWare Weekly update, this week’s Nintendo Channel goodies are a bit on the light side. Sure, there’s the launch video for Dead Space Extraction and the new Nintendo Week show, but the real prize is the new TV spot for Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky.

For the rest of this week’s content, head past the break.

VC/WiiWare Tuesday: An impossibly large update

August 4th, 2009 at 12:20pm Under Wii / Nintendo

This week is certainly the largest single update the Japanese Wii Shop has had since the launch of the Virtual Console back in December of 2006. It’s also, sadly, a feat that probably won’t be repeated, given the recent decline in selection. But let’s not talk about declines when we’ve got such an incredible increase this month! Four games on Virtual Console — and good ones, too, like Final Fantasy IV and Pac-Mania, would be remarkable enough, but they are joined by no fewer than nine on WiiWare.

The WiiWare selection includes genuinely interesting content like Bit.Trip: CORE, the one-button Tomenasanner Wii (seen above), and the three Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games; plus genuinely forgettable content like Sandy Beach, and wild cards like dolphin-training game Sea Farm, Derby Dog, which is, yes, a game about racing different varieties of dog, and a brain training game with its most notable feature being that its title translates to “Make your Square Brain Round.”

The complete release listings are posted after the break.

Downloadable Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games get physical Club Nintendo items

July 31st, 2009 at 05:40pm Under Wii / Nintendo

A few lucky Japanese WiiWare shoppers who pick up the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games next week will get limited-edition gifts from Club Nintendo. Fifty people who buy at least two of the three WiiWare roguelikes will get this pop-up book thing, which is, honestly, not that exciting of a pop-up. It’s basically a paper dome. Two hundred people who purchase just one of the games will randomly be drawn to win a Wiimote/DS strap featuring artwork from the game they purchased.

Meanwhile, Nintendo of America has indicated no plans to release the games, and it won’t indicate any such plans until they magically appear on the Wii Shop. Don’t expect any promotions like this, or, really, any promotion at all.

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon for WiiWare: first trailer and details

July 15th, 2009 at 06:00pm Under Wii / Nintendo

Surprise! The WiiWare Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games, first revealed in a McDonalds-distribted flyer, are real, and are headed for Japan on August 4. Players will be able to share save data throughout all three games, so they can level up a persistent team.

The three games (Advance! Fire Adventure Team, Go! Storm Adventure Team, and Aim! Light Adventure Team!) each feature a different set of starting Pokemans. And in this game, your team can cooperate even more than in other Pokemon games, by piling up and attacking enemies simultaneously. The WiiWare game also features the “rescue” ability found in recent Shiren the Wanderer games, in which friends can revive your team over the Wi-Fi Connection.

After the break, we’ve embedded a trailer that details these features — and shows off the adorable little Pokemon.

[Thanks, Alilatias]

Rumor: McDonalds reveals Pokemon Mystery Dungeon on WiiWare

June 16th, 2009 at 05:00pm Under Wii / Nintendo

According to what has been identified as a pamphlet from a McDonalds location in Japan, Nintendo is preparing to launch three new Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games — on WiiWare.

A detail from the pamphlet shows an announcement of the WiiWare release of the three games, along with logos for Mystery Dungeon games called Susume! Hono no Boukendan, Ikuzo! Arashi no Boukendan, and Mezase! Hikari no Boukendan, which translate to Advance! Fire Adventure Team, Go! Storm Adventure Team, and Aim! Light Adventure Group!, respectively.

Since we don’t even know if the pamphlet, presumably distributed as a promotion for the Mac de DS program, is real, obviously we don’t have any more details about the games, like whether Mystery Dungeon series creator Chunsoft is creating them or if they are all variants of the same base game.

DS trailers and screens you may not have seen yet

June 8th, 2009 at 02:00pm Under DS

Nintendo announced a ton of new games at its E3 keynote, but it announced even more afterward. We’ve decided to round up the trailers and screens we haven’t shown you yet all at once, in the interest of getting all this stuff out as quickly as possible!

The trailer above is for Fossil Fighters, the game released in Japan as We Are Fossil Holders. It’s about digging up fossils, reconstructing dinosaurs, and then making them fight. After the break, see trailers for Style Savvy, the latest Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, and the new DSiWare lineup, as well as screens for Picross 3D, Glory of Heracles, Style Savvy, and the one game we really wanted to play at E3 but couldn’t, WarioWare DIY.
