Another Saturday has arrived, and with it another free episode of Halo Legends on the Xbox Live Marketplace. For 24 hours only (of course it won’t be on the internet afterward!), you can catch an anime’d up Master Chief delivering “The Package” with four “specially selected Spartans.”
Today’s episode is the first half of a two-parter (concluding on December 12), so be sure to catch it or be left lonely and confused when next week arrives. Or you could always just wait until the whole shebang arrives on Blu-ray this February 9.

If you enjoyed the Cowboy Bebop-meets-Master Chief action presented in the first episode of Halo Legends (seriously, that main character looked just like Spike Spiegel!), then you may want to check out the second episode of the Spartan-themed anime premiering today on Halo Waypoint. For 24 hours starting at 12:00AM PST (about eight hours ago), Xbox Live Silver and Gold members will be able to access “The Duel” through the “all-things-Halo” hub.
Microsoft also notes that this will be the last week for Xbox Live Silver members to explore Waypoint, and in turn, enjoy the weekly free episodes of Halo Legends. If you’re wondering what time the show will be available for you and you don’t live in North America, a full list of showtimes is available on Xbox.com.

Seems like these buy 2, get 1 free sales are all the rage these days, as Target has just announced it will be hosting one starting November 1. Unlike the recent sales from Amazon, Toys R Us and Best Buy, Target’s sale applies only to Wii games, though it’s worth noting that it does apply to all of them. As Wii games tend to be significantly cheaper than 360 and PS3 games, this might be a good deal for the early holiday shoppers out there.
Target is also offering a deal on Band Hero starting November 3 and running through next week. Those that pick up any version of the Band Hero bundle ($199) will get a free $20 gift card along with it. That should be just enough to buy supplies for the Taylor Swift party you will no doubt be forced to throw.

Those of you who woke up extra early this morning to get in precious alone time with your Xbox 360 (we understand – we do it all the time) may have been tricked when a mandatory system update greeted you in place of the dashboard. Alas, the much ballyhoo’d Facebook/Twitter/Last.fm update has not yet arrived, as Microsoft’s Major Nelson points out on his site.
Instead, the update brings with it support for the now five-year-old WPA2 security protocol. With that new and improved 802.11n wireless adapter hitting retailers next month, and with WPA2 certification being mandatory for all new Wi-Fi devices as of March 2006, Microsoft seems to be rolling out that addition in software. That’s good news for those of you with a four-year-old Xbox 360 Wireless Adapter!
PSA: Xbox mandatory update isn’t ‘The Big One,’ adds WPA2 support for wireless adapter originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 28 Oct 2009 15:00:00 EST. Please see our terms for use of feeds.

Last week’s rumor of Best Buy’s “buy 2, get the 3rd game” sale beginning today rang of truth. The offer is good on all Wii, PS3 and Xbox 360 software that’s $60 or less, which is pretty much everything not involving plastic peripheral bundles.
Best Buy is typically pretty well stocked with software, but with a sale like this, it’s probably best to show up early today to get the games you’re gunning for. We’ll keep an eye on Amazon to see if it matches this sale like it did Toys “R” Us’ from a couple weeks ago.

For those of you who dropped a few bucks reserving Brütal Legend early, now’s your chance to get some face time with Eddie Riggs and co. The demo dropped today on Xbox Live and PlayStation Network, giving those who pre-ordered the game roughly a month of time to enjoy … erm … demoing it. If you didn’t pre-order it and you’re following Joystiq on Twitter, we’ll be giving away some download codes later on today.
The rest of us plebes will have to wait until September 23, which is when the demo will arrive for everyone else. Tim Schafer would love for us all to be able to play the whole thing right now, though he concedes, “While we’re waiting for Rocktober 13, a taste of Metal is better than none at all.” Indeed it is, Mr. Schafer.

A quick public service announcement to any and all tipsters sending us links to Don Mattrick’s official Twitter account: It’s fake. Sure, it would have been nice to reveal new Halo: Reach related details, but the only news out of the Twitter account is that there is no news at all. Really, we’re not surprised with such masterfully crafted tweets as: “We’re currently working with a third party studio on a new xbox 360 exclusive game engine to showcase unmatched graphical fidilty.” Yes, “fidilty.”
Microsoft’s (real) Twitter expert Major Nelson — aka Larry Hryb — tells us he is currently working with the Twitter team to have the account removed. With so many fake accounts, it’s no wonder Twitter is testing a new “Verified Account” label. We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Don Mattrick for inspiring a phony Twitter account, following good company such as artist Kanye West, ass-kicker Chuck Norris and all of the Pokemans.
