Banjo & Kazooie spotted on Xbox version of Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing

December 15th, 2009 at 08:39pm Under Xbox 360

One of these box arts is not like the others. Yep, you’ll notice that the Xbox 360 version of Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing has two added bonuses: Banjo and Kazooie. At first, we were quick to dismiss the image as nothing more than a fan mock-up. However, TSSZ discovered that all of these box arts can be seen on Sega’s server (Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii).

If the addition of Banjo and Kazooie to Sega’s kart racer sounds familiar, it’s because it was part of a Sega leak earlier this year that contemplated this exact partnership. Revisiting the supposedly leaked Sega document reveals a number of bullet points that have already come true: the PS3 price drop, Alpha Protocol’s delay and Yakuza’s localization. The addition of Banjo & Kazooie to the Sonic racer is a nice bonus; however, should other aspects of the Sega document come true, it could mean PS2 and Dreamcast games are coming to PSN.

[Thanks Tristan!]

Rumor: Splinter Cell Conviction demo coming in January

December 10th, 2009 at 06:50pm Under Xbox 360

As you might imagine, it’s kind of hard to believe the words coming out of someone’s mouth when a gold wrestling championship belt is gleaming in our eyes, which is why we’re not sure what to believe coming from the mysterious “Adam” regarding a possible Splinter Cell Conviction demo coming this January. Seen with the Hip-Hop Gamer in a video after the break, Adam — a gentleman who Ubisoft wouldn’t confirm to us is an actual employee — seemingly announces the existence of an upcoming Conviction demo.

When asked by the eccentric interviewer about the possibility, Adam responds, “It’s coming out in January, and then the actual game: February 23rd.” We asked Ubisoft for verification of Adam’s words, and were told by a rep, “I cannot confirm a demo at this time.” So, anyone know Adam?

Rumor: PSP Minis playable on PS3 before Christmas

December 3rd, 2009 at 03:02pm Under PSP

Since the launch of the PSP Minis digital platform alongside the PSP Go back in October, Sony has showed little more than a passing interest in promoting its bite-sized game service. After playing a decent chunk of games at launch and then barely hearing a whisper since, we’ve been wondering when the company would show more support for Minis. If what we’re hearing from a handful of reliable sources is true, however, the PSP Minis will finally get some attention in the near future as they become playable on the PlayStation 3.

It’ll happen “before Christmas,” says one source (confirmed as “this month” by others independently), allegedly with the entire selection of Minis (and presumably upcoming releases) to be playable on PlayStation 3 consoles — with a resolution bump to boot. As for Sony: “We don’t comment on rumor or speculation.”, so we’ll have to leave it in the rumor department for now.

Logitech denies it’s developing PSP Go UMD add-on [update]

December 2nd, 2009 at 10:30am Under PSP

A CVG source (singular) claims that Logitech is developing a UMD drive add-on for the PSP Go. The source has neither price nor release information, merely stating that the “only problem is that it’ll make the PSP a little bulky.” Logitech’s UK office told the outlet that it’s unaware of such a device and that it “may be something the US office is working on.” We’ve contacted both Sony and Logitech for more concrete information.

Beyond the fact that such an add-on would undermine what the Go represents (not quite the “only” problem, is it?), the likely price of such a device, in addition to the base cost of the PSP Go, would not compare well to the already lower cost of a regular PSP with UMD drive. Now, if the add-on could “install” your old games, that would be something …

Update: Logitech tells Joystiq: “This is not something that our company is working on.”

Rumor: Gaming conventions to convene in Xbox Live

November 30th, 2009 at 06:00pm Under Xbox 360

According to a recent survey conducted by market research company VGMarket, Microsoft may be working on an “interactive, online version” of your favorite gaming conventions — from E3 to ComicCon and everything in between. As noted by a Destructoid reader who took the survey, the online questionnaire presented the aforementioned hypothetical situation, and then went into detail about how such a situation might play out.

“Sign onto Xbox Live and you can enter a virtual version of that convention … this virtual version contains 20-60 virtual booths sponsored by larger publishers and developers presenting at the real world show,” imagined the survey. The possibilities then reached outrageous levels as the idea of downloading “demos and/or betas” directly from the virtual convention floor and playing them that very moment was suggested. However, as VGMarket doesn’t list Microsoft among its clients on the company’s official website, and a representative could not be reached for comment, the veracity of this survey and its information is still very much in question.

Rumor: Splinter Cell: Conviction demo voucher in Xbox 360 Assassin’s Creed II

November 16th, 2009 at 01:40pm Under Xbox 360

Look, Sam Fisher is a master of espionage, so it’s entirely believable the man could sneak his way into the packaging of Assassin’s Creed II this week. Heck, now that his daughter is gone, he’s thrown the rulebook out the window and part of his new anything-goes persona could very well be to synergize like he’s never done before. Thus, this rumor that all copies of Assassin’s Creed II on Xbox 360 will come with a download voucher for a Splinter Cell: Conviction demo.

One user over at NeoGAF claims a copy of Assassin’s Creed II on Xbox 360 came with said insert, while further evidence from HipHopGamer shows what appears to be the alleged insert (it’s since been removed from the original video; but Kouppa-Network Live still has it up). Logic points to the demo being the same portion of gameplay we checked out back at E3, though there’s no evidence to verify that.

We’ve contacted Ubisoft for comment and will update this post when we hear back.

[Thanks, tmacairjordan87]

Rumor: Best Buy’s 2009 Black Friday deals

November 13th, 2009 at 04:00pm Under Wii / Nintendo

According to Gear Live, Best Buy’s Black Friday 2009 ad circular has been leaked, and all the deals have been revealed. Gamers have quite a bit to look forward to, specifically some decent hardware bundles and heavily discounted games. The console deals include a PS3 with Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time and LittleBigPlanet Game of the Year Edition for $299, as well as a 120GB Xbox 360 Elite bundle with four (thus far unidentified) games for $299. Also up for grabs will be Brain Age or Mario DSi bundles for $169.99 with a free $20 gift card.

Several recent Xbox 360 and PS3 releases will be on sale for $34.99, including Brütal Legend, Left 4 Dead 2, Dragon Age. Many older titles will be $20 or less. Meanwhile, several Wii titles will be reduced to $14.99, while certain DS titles will drop to $9.99 or less. Hit the source link for the full (and still rumored) set of deals. We’ve contacted Best Buy to verify the ad.

Update: Best Buy has responded to Joystiq about the ad, saying, “As a matter of company policy, Best Buy does not comment on rumor and speculation and so we are unable to confirm if our Black Friday insert has leaked.”

Rumor: Project Natal launch details leaked

November 11th, 2009 at 10:40am Under Xbox 360

MCV reports that Microsoft has been showing Project Natal off to UK publishers this week, and filling them in on the launch plan. According to the site’s unnamed sources, Microsoft plans to release the peripheral in November 2010, at a sub-£50 ($84) price point that could go as low as £30 ($50) when sold by itself. That price happens to match the price predicted by Michael Pachter last month.

MCV’s sources say that Microsoft will have 5 million cameras ready for launch, with a “great launch line-up” of 14 games. While a November launch of a major video game item seems plausible even in a year overloaded with spring releases, this information remains unverified and, therefore, suspect. And we’re tempted to say that the price is too good to be true. If it does turn out to be $50, our expression of delight may be the first thing the fancy camera sees.

Rumor: Screens of Dishwasher: Dead Samurai 2 leaked; Ska Studios responds

November 6th, 2009 at 02:30pm Under Xbox 360

Or, if you prefer: “Tom Morello strikes again; joined by Rebecca Romijn and Zach Braff.”

Screenshots of what may be a sequel to the XBLA game The Dishwasher: Dead Samurai have landed on 1UP, allegedly supplied by the same saboteur that leaked those supposed Halo: Reach images. The shots certainly jive with the original game’s art style and do feature some new enemies, backgrounds and objects. There are a number of new weapons shown, including a minigun, some kind of halberd, something that appears to be a giant syringe and — our favorite — a humongous pair of scissors.

When reached for comment, Dishwasher creator James Silva said, “Ska Studios does not comment on rumor and speculation,” and then added, “I’m never inviting Tom Morello, Rebecca Romijn and Zach Braff over again.”

Rumor: First screens, details for Halo Reach leaked

November 5th, 2009 at 07:48pm Under Xbox 360

MLG forum user (and MS Paint fanatic) ToM MoReLLo claims to have played Halo: Reach, and was somehow able to nab multiple blurry screenshots of the game as evidence. Now, when we say blurry we mean blurry. In fact, the classic images of Bigfoot were of higher quality than some of these screens. Perhaps our natural skepticism is taking over, but we’re taking these images with a rather large grain of salt.

As for details, the forum post claims Reach will feature squad-based combat and perks, similar to that of Modern Warfare. Squad-based mechanics certainly make sense, considering former Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter creative director Christian Allen joined Bungie in 2007. But again, grain of salt.

Halo: ReachBungie’s final title in the Halo universe — is expected to ship in 2010. Microsoft has yet to reply to our request for a comment on the images.
