VC in Brief: Wonder Boy III (SMS) and Cybernoid (C64)

November 9th, 2009 at 08:30pm Under Wii / Nintendo

This week’s Virtual Console update is quite the doozie, giving us one obscure C64 title and one game we’ve played a billion times. We don’t mean to sound bitter, but we’re pretty sure there’s a baker’s dozen Wonder Boy games littering the lands of the Virtual Console. Check ‘em out above!

  • Cybernoid (C64, 1 player, 500 Wii Points)
  • Wonder Boy III: The Dragon’s Trap (Sega Master System, 1 player, 500 Wii Points)

Every week, we like to check out what’s new on the Virtual Console. We offer these videos as a sort of taste to help you decide whether or not you would want the game in question. We also toss in our own two cents because we’re pushy jerks like that.

VC in Brief: Fighting Street (TG16) and R-TYPE (SMS)

November 2nd, 2009 at 09:15pm Under Wii / Nintendo

This week’s Virtual Console releases kind of pale in comparison to last week’s stellar offerings; Fighting Street is a crummy game that helped spawn one of gaming’s best series, whereas R-TYPE is a great game, though the version offered this week is the lousier port. There’s been a way more competent version of the game available since 2006!

  • Fighting Street (TurboGrafx-16 CD-ROM, 1-2 players, 800 Wii Points)
  • R-TYPE (Sega Master System, 1 player, 500 Wii Points)

Every week, we like to check out what’s new on the Virtual Console. We offer these videos as a sort of taste to help you decide whether or not you would want the game in question. We also toss in our own two cents because we’re pushy jerks like that.

Nintendoware Weekly: Sparkle Snapshots, Fighting Street, Carnival King & more

November 2nd, 2009 at 10:44am Under DS

Nintendo actually released a respectable number of downloadable games this week: 8 games across Virtual Console, WiiWare and DSiWare. You may have even heard of some of them!

As far as we can tell, the highlights of the week are a DSiWare photo decoration app and the embarrassing parent of the Street Fighter series. Hit the post break and find out if any of the many offerings are what you were looking to drain your Nintendo Points on.

VC in Brief: Secret Commando (SMS) and Pulseman (Sega Genesis)

July 13th, 2009 at 08:00pm Under Wii / Nintendo

It’s been a while since we’ve seen two games released for Virtual Console in one week, let alone two import titles. But here we are, playing these games for you in another edition of VC in Brief. Be sure to check out the video above, and head past the break if you’re looking for more. This is one of those have your cake and eat it too situations.

VC in Brief: Fantasy Zone II (Sega Master System)

June 29th, 2009 at 04:25pm Under Wii / Nintendo

Fantasy Zone II: The Tears of Opa-Opa (Sega Master System, 1 player, 500 Wii Points)
We say: Shmup and Sega fanboys will gobble this up
This week, we’ve got classic shmup Fantasy Zone II on the Virtual Console. And, just like the first game, it’s a whole bunch of colorful fun. Featuring infectious music, pleasant locales, and plenty of coins to collect, it’s a solid choice for someone looking for a shmup that isn’t Gradius.

Every week, we like to check out what’s new on the Virtual Console. We offer these videos as a sort of taste to help you decide whether or not you would want the game in question. We also toss in our own two cents because we’re pushy jerks.

NintendoWare Weekly: Water Warfare in for a Reel Fishing Challenge

June 29th, 2009 at 12:25pm Under DS

It wouldn’t be Monday without new games to download across Nintendo platforms. This week’s highlight is definitely Hudson’s first-person soaker, Water Warfare. It’s a neat concept, but we really think Hudson could’ve spent some time tightening up the graphics on level three.
