Super Monkey Ball: Step and Roll is something of a troubling proposition. Sure, it might be fun at first — something we can attest to — but it could very easily become the most maddening experience in video games. Remember all the times you fell off the old Monkey Ball levels while using the precision inputs of a controller? Yeah, that’s probably going to happen a lot more with the Balance Board. That said, after watching the above video, we’ll be darned if we don’t wanna give it a try.

One of these box arts is not like the others. Yep, you’ll notice that the Xbox 360 version of Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing has two added bonuses: Banjo and Kazooie. At first, we were quick to dismiss the image as nothing more than a fan mock-up. However, TSSZ discovered that all of these box arts can be seen on Sega’s server (Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii).
If the addition of Banjo and Kazooie to Sega’s kart racer sounds familiar, it’s because it was part of a Sega leak earlier this year that contemplated this exact partnership. Revisiting the supposedly leaked Sega document reveals a number of bullet points that have already come true: the PS3 price drop, Alpha Protocol’s delay and Yakuza’s localization. The addition of Banjo & Kazooie to the Sonic racer is a nice bonus; however, should other aspects of the Sega document come true, it could mean PS2 and Dreamcast games are coming to PSN.
[Thanks Tristan!]

We’ve got a duo of high-profile titles to check out here on VC in Brief this week. Come for the shooting stuff, stay for the Pig Chutes.
- Blaster Master (NES, 1 player, 500 Wii Points)
- Earthworm Jim 2 (Sega Genesis, 1 player, 800 Wii Points)
Every week, we like to check out what’s new on the Virtual Console. We offer these videos as a sort of taste to help you decide whether or not you would want the game in question. We also toss in our own two cents because we’re pushy jerks like that.

Sega and Rebellion won’t release a “sanitized” Aliens vs. Predator for the Australian market, but it appears the companies are at least going to try and appeal the government’s decision to “ban” the game. Refused Classification noted over the weekend that the classification board will hold a review of AvP’s status this Friday, December 18.
The most recent high-profile game to attempt an appeal with the Aussie ratings board was Valve’s Left 4 Dead 2 — it failed. However, an edited version of the zombie apocalypse survival trainer was released in the region. We’ve contacted Sega for comment on the matter.

Sega has released a demo of Vancouver 2010 – The Official Video Game of the Olympic Winter Games. We’re not sure about the gameplay, but the title definitely deserves a medal. Come on, it has the word “game” in it twice. As for the demo, it has a sample of one of the Olympic sim’s fourteen different modes, as well as the Landing Zone challenge. If you think your well-trained thumbs are up to the task, the demo can be yours for only 684MB of free space.

As promised, Sunsoft’s brought Blaster Master to the Virtual Console — though we think the impact is somewhat dulled by the quantity of other games available for download this week. There’s a total of 11 different games available, so head past the break for the full list.

The third entry to the cult classic Yakuza series of games will indeed be making its way over to the West, SEGA announced late yesterday, bringing with it the original Japanese voice cast, but subtitled in English so that us Westerners can actually understand what’s going on.

Exclusive to PlayStation 3, Yakuza 3 tells the story of Kiryu ‘Dragon of Dojima’ Kazuma, as he is once again called to battle powerful Tokyo mobsters after trying to leave his old life of crime behind.
Fans of the Yakuza series apparently had a large part to play in the final decision to bring Yakuza 3 over to the West, of which SOE’s European Marketing Director Gary Knight says:
“Yakuza 3 was one of the most requested titles for localisation by our European SEGA community, so we are delighted to be able to fulfil their wishes with this announcement.
“As well as delving even further into the rich narrative of the Yakuza universe, the development team have pushed the PlayStation 3 hardware to the limits to produce a beautiful and startlingly realistic depiction of the Japanese underworld.”

Yakuza 3 has already sold over half a million copies in ‘the East’ since its release in late February, and that tally is sure to grow when the game launches in North America and Europe in March next year.
We leave you now with a few more beautiful screenshots from Yakuza 3, as well as an excellent debut trailer, which you can have a look at below:

Whoa, what’s this? Developers Rebellion and publishers SEGA want to give everybody a head start before we begin hunting for their game on the shelves at our local retailers, so they’ve been kind enough to release an image of the Aliens VS Predator box art.
Surprisingly enough, the image contains both an Alien and a Predator, getting ready to VS one another.
Head on down below for a larger image:

Aliens VS Predator releases on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC next year, on February 23rd in North America, and February 26th in Europe.

Martial arts is the theme on the Virtual Console this week, as Sega and Capcom both offer up entries in their respective franchises. Unless you like to punch things, throw pointy things at things or kick things — or maybe some kind of mixture of all that — then you’ll probably want to skip this week’s downloads. Pacifists need not apply!

Click to grind into our gallery LTL Prints is launching a line of removable, reusable wall decals featuring art from Smilebit’s 2001 Xbox classic Jet Set Radio Future. Now you can be reminded that there hasn’t been another Jet Set Radio game in years every time you look at your wall! The company and license were brought together by John Doffing, one of the original curators of the Into the Pixel exhibit.
The site features a wide selection of character art as well as posters and even a graffiti image or two, all available in the size of your choice — up to 7 feet tall. Want to turn your office into a shrine to Inspector Hayashi? Or maybe have a horde of Poison Jam watching you eat dinner?
The company claims that the decals can be moved and replaced 100 times without damage to walls, so you can spend plenty of time deciding which room to adorn with Bis, Corn, and Yoyo. Preferably a room with speakers in it — you’ll want to play a continuous loop of Cibo Matto’s “Birthday Cake” for effect.
