Has the pernicious dealing with retail requirement kept you from the ongoing, stylish adventures of Nero and Dante (not that Dante)? Capcom has good news for those of us with no tolerance for relics like stores and boxes: starting December 22, the PC version of Devil May Cry 4 will be available for download on “the digital distribution partner of your choice,” including, of course, Capcom’s own shop, where pre-orders are being accepted for $29.99. The 360 version will hit Games on Demand, along with Lost Planet Colonies Edition, the same day.
Capcom notes that the PC version of the action game features some enhancements not found in the console versions: altered enemy placements, a “Turbo Mode,” an extra-difficult “Legendary Dark Knight Mode,” among several visual tweaks. And now, it’s enhanced with buying it from home mode!

In its ongoing support of Left 4 Dead 2 on the PC, Valve has issued another patch for the game, fixing a number of problems including physics crashes and hit boxes on the Charger, Jockey and Spitter. Some of the exploits PC gamers have stumbled upon have also been eradicated, including incapped survivors improving their weapon accuracy by holding the crouch button — though we wouldn’t call that an exploit so much as a natural evolution in the face of the zombie threat. Good, old-fashioned human ingenuity is what will win us this war, people!
You can head past the break for the full patch notes. An update for the Xbox 360 will be available “later this month.”

Tragnarion Studios has announced that it will soon bring its third-person shooter, entitled The Scourge Project — first announced in 2007 — to Xbox Live Arcade, PSN and Steam. The game, powered by the Unreal Engine, promises “a unique focus on co-operative narrative and gameplay,” in which each of the four playable characters will have a unique perspective on the story. From a more meat-and-potatoes standpoint, the game features five hours of gameplay over four levels (each with different special abilities), nine different weapons and co-op for up to four players. The Scourge Project also offers versus multiplayer for up to sixteen players and includes deathmatch, team deathmatch, capture the flag and “Frontier.”
The game certainly seems to be packing some graphical chops, especially compared to Tragnarion’s previous project for the DS, a puzzler called Doodle Hex. The game is expected to debut on Steam this month, while the XBLA version is scheduled to arrive in March 2010. The press release does mention a PSN version of the game, though it doesn’t appear in the body of the text. We’ve contacted Tragnarion to see if the PSN listing was legitimate or made in error.
Check out some screens in the gallery below and find more info on the official Scourge Project site.

Over on the Steam forums, there was some hullabaloo earlier about potential Avatar awards for the Xbox 360 version of L4D2, all stemming from uncompressed files found on a dedicated server for the PC demo. Well, we’re glad to inform you that Valve has confirmed Avatar awards will be included with the game (via G4) and that there will be a total of nine different Avatar rewards, six of which we currently know about.
These awards will run the gamut from a med kit backpack to a frying pan prop right down to Rochelle’s Depeche Mode shirt you see above. And, unlike some other Avatar awards, you won’t need to max out Gamerscore to get ‘em; L4D2 Avatar awards unlock after you’ve completed more manageable tasks, such as winning ten games of Versus or killing 10,000 infected.
If you want to see some of the items in the flesh, head past the break for a virtual tour courtesy of G4.

We knew that the pre-loadable Left 4 Dead 2 demo on Steam would send withering waves of madness through the world’s populace, but we never considered what would happen if the demo failed to materialize on the promised date. Steam users have been reporting that the demo is still unavailable, and Steam’s own events page — pictured above — notes that it won’t be available until early tomorrow.
The delay seems to only affect Steam users at the moment, as the Xbox version of the demo is currently available on Xbox Live Marketplace for those that have the redemption code. We’ve contacted Valve regarding the delay and will update this post as soon as we have more information.

Remember when Valve announced that the Left 4 Dead 2 demo would launch on October 27th? It turns out that date is actually the early access date for those who pre-order the game on Xbox 360 or PC (via Steam). Starting November 3rd, the demo will be available to all PC players and Xbox Live Gold subscribers. Xbox Live Silver members, as usual, will have to wait an additional week to demo the game on November 10th. Then again, if you only have a Silver account, you probably aren’t too excited for a predominantly multiplayer game anyway.
The Left 4 Dead 2 demo will allow up to four players the opportunity to survive “The Parish” campaign. The PC version will be playable online or through a local network, while the Xbox version will feature the same options — plus two-player split screen. Valve notes that the demo includes “all the new boss infected zombies and all the new melee weapons.” So, please, do yourself a favor: grab a katana and start cutting fools down.

Indie developer Alientrap’s Capsized has certainly captured our attention with its art style. IndieGames took note of the title and its early footage, which is giving off an Exile and Metroid vibe, but its lush setting and arcade-like action certainly appears to separate it from that pack. The game is planned for a 2010 launch on Steam and XBLA.
We’re currently following up with the Alientrap more details about the game, which is currently seeking play testers on PC. Check out the first trailer, which isn’t shy on the gameplay footage, after the break.

Two things about this trailer for the new Rocket Knight (after the break) stand out upon our first viewing:
- The stylized projectile/jetpack effects
- It’s a Rocket Knight Adventures game
That last one may seem obvious, but we’re still a bit shocked to see Konami bring the series back after so long — to be honest, we’re a bit shocked every time Konami announces a game that isn’t Metal Gear.
And, to our delight, what we see here is true Rocket Knight: Sparkster has his sword and his jetpack, the latter of which is used basically to bounce all over the screen. It’s here that the 3D remake actually benefits the game: with the wider area and the smaller Sparkster, he seems to have a lot more freedom to fly around. Even the shooter stages have returned, with some interesting dynamic camera work.
If you never paid attention to this series because of mid-90s animal mascot platformer overload, you should start getting familiar with it now. Forget Gex, Aero the Acro-Bat, Punky Skunk, Zero the Kamikaze Squirrel, Awesome Possum, and Socket. This one’s actually good.
