[Update] The Tekken 6 online patch is reported to be live and ready to download [End of Update]
Namco Bandai has confirmed that the free Tekken 6 online update will become available today for both the Xbox 360 and PS3, in order to “further enhance player’s online gameplay experience.”
The following “online gameplay enhancements” will be included in the update:
- Improved input response: improvement of the game’s responsiveness to button / command inputs;
- Selectable search priorities for ranked matches: players will be able to set search priorities for opponents in ranked matches based on comparable rank or connection quality as well as location;
- Optimized data transmission between fighters and spectators: fight data will be optimized in order to reduce the bandwidth load on the host’s console;
- Signal strength bars: the signal strength bar will reflect connection quality more accurately;
- Chance to cancel match: players will be able to cancel the match before it begins once the opponent’s signal strength has been displayed on ranked matches.
You should note, however, that this update is separate from the planned online cooperative Scenario Campaign, which is scheduled to release ‘this Winter.’

The latest and greatest edition of Tekken, Namco’s long-running, storied and venerable series of fighting games, is due for release later this month and was on hand to go for a spin at rAge 2009, and for a game that’s to be responsible for reinvigorating the, of late, lagging franchise, Tekken 6 is doing a lot right in terms of the spectacle and bombast on display to bring in new fans and ‘wow’ the old ones.
For all of its style and flair, though, Tekken 6 is also doing a lot that’s… the same as previous entries to the franchise, which is a good thing, but it’s also the reason the series has been surpassed in recent years by other fighting games.
