If you thought last week’s NintendoWare Weekly update was huge, well … you’ll probably think the same thing about this week’s update! That’s mostly because Nintendo provides quite the overweight offering this time, with a total of ten new titles available for your post-Thanksgiving download. Loosen that belt and make some room for more by heading past the break for the full list of this week’s releases.

This week’s episode of XBLA in Brief will likely seem a bit familiar. The reason for that is because the trial version of the final three Wallace & Gromit episodes is exactly the same as the trial version for the first episode. Suffice it to say that you won’t see anything new if you’ve already tried the first episode. For the rest of you, watch the latest XBLA in Brief and see if the charm of Wallace & Gromit appeals to you.

Here’s hoping you really like Wallace & Gromit and, more specifically, Telltale’s episodic Wallace & Gromit games, because that’s all you’re getting on Xbox Live Arcade this week. As promised, the final three episodes, The Last Resort, Muzzled! and The Bogey Man will all be dropping on XBLA this Wednesday, each priced at 800
($10). That brings the total for all four games to $40, which isn’t too bad, although PC owners should be aware that Telltale is offering the entire season — which includes a collector’s DVD — for $34.95 as well.
Still, if you’ve got a yen for some couch-bound, Achievement-filled Wallace & Gromit, it’s a pretty good deal.

The remainder of Telltale’s Wallace & Gromit’s Grand Adventures episodes will make it onto Xbox Live Arcade all in one go on November 4 which, coincidentally, is the 20th anniversary of the dynamic duo’s first animated short, A Grand Day Out. The already-released Fright of the Bumblebees, will now be joined by The Last Resort (which was a no-show in September), Muzzled! and The Bogey Man, each going for 800
($10). The mathletes out there have already figured this out, but that puts the entire season at $40 – a deal if it were a retail package.
Also on November 4, Telltale Games’ website will begin taking orders for the “full season DVD” on PC, which includes all four episodes, image galleries, a “making of” video and more. With three titles dropping on one day, I’m not sure we’d call this “episodic” in the traditional sense.

In an interview with Shacknews, Telltale Games CEO Dan Connors said long wait times between episodic content releases on XBLA are “over.” When asked why the XBLA follow-up to the first Wallace & Gromit episode has taken over five months, Connors said Microsoft’s second-annual Summer of Arcade promotion had kept the second episode off the virtual store shelves, allowing Telltale to develop new episodes of the series to keep release dates between episodes close. “I think our goal, going forward, is to launch on as many platforms as we can simultaneously,” Connors said.
With two episodic franchises under its belt on Microsoft’s downloadable service, Connors said he “would love” to see Tales of Monkey Island — its best selling episodic franchise based on the classic adventure series — on Microsoft’s downloadable platform. “I know they had great success with Monkey Island: Special Edition. We think there’s definitely an audience there and we definitely want to get the game to them.” Thankfully we’re able to hold our breath just as long as Guybrush Threepwood, so the wait for a possible release shouldn’t be too painful.

This week’s content for European Nintendo fans is quite the bevy of scrumptious content. There’s a new chapter in the Tales of Monkey Island franchise to laugh through, as well as some new stuff for your little ne’er-do-well in My Life as a Darklord. If WiiWare isn’t your thing, you could always shoot everything in sight in some R-Type on the Virtual Console. See? Totally a bevy.
- You, Me, and the Cubes (WiiWare, 1 -2 players, 1,000 Wii Points)
- Tales of Monkey Island Chapter 2: The Siege of Spinner Cay (WiiWare, 1 player, 1,000 Wii Points)

Our
last post about a
Tales of Monkey Island episode launching on WiiWare was written entirely in pirate speak. This one won’t be. Nope, we’ll just tell you that the second episode in Telltale’s ongoing series, “The Siege of Spinner Cay,” will be available on WiiWare this coming Monday, August 31, for 1000 Wii Points ($10). See, that wasn’t so harrrrrrd. (
Darnit!)

Telltale has announced that the next chapter of Tales of Monkey Island, Siege of Spinner Cay, will be out on PC on August 20. The developer wasn’t as precise with the details of the WiiWare release, but, according to the announcement, it will be “timed close to the PC release.”
This is, perhaps, what we like best about Telltale’s episodic approach — it gives us the satisfaction of buying a new adventure game every month or so, even though we’re actually only buying another part of the same adventure game. After an eight-year wait for a new Monkey Island, we’re enjoying the novelty of purchasing new games in the series almost as much as we’re enjoying playing them.
Should you be stuck in the first game, and in need of some help to get you ready for the second, Telltale posted a walkthrough for Launch of the Screaming Narwhal.

Steam sales charts suggested that Telltale Games’ relaunch of the Monkey Island franchise, Tales of Monkey Island, was doing well. Telltale’s Dan Connors gave Videogamer an idea of just how well: “It was a great launch for us,” he said. “We’re really happy with it. I think it even exceeded our expectations.”
Connors didn’t offer specific numbers, but he said that Tales of Monkey Island outperformed Telltale’s other launches. “I would definitely say it’s our strongest performing franchise to date,” he said. “We’re pretty excited. It was number one on Steam for a few days. It did really well. It’s been our best performing title from our side as well.”
With the WiiWare version having launched just this Monday (and not having been mentioned by Connors), it’s unlikely that it factors into Telltale’s rejoicing. We’re eager to find out how the console version’s launch compares.
