By now we’re all getting a bit fatigued with the constant release of new games in the plastic-instrument genre, and Harmonix once promised to make Rock Band a platform updated by downloadable content instead of an annual release with almost no changes. But then they somehow snagged The Beatles license and had the opportunity to release a Beatles Rock Band game at the same time as all the Beatles’ back catalog was being released in remastered CD format around the world (to very good sales), and it seems they couldn’t pass it up, not only because of the commercial opportunity but because the people at Harmonix really love the Beatles – you can tell when you play the game.

MTV Games and Harmonix have announced that the first downloadable album for The Beatles: Rock Band, Abbey Road, will be available today for the Xbox 360, and on Thursday for the PlayStation 3, while individual tracks will also be available for the Wii today.
This downloadable album now completes the set of Abbey Road songs already available on The Beatles: Rock Band, such as ‘Come Together’ and ‘The End,’ now accompanied by classic tracks such as ‘Mean Mr. Mustard’ and ‘Maxwell’s Silver Hammer.’

With the release of The Beatles: Rock Band a little under two weeks ago, Harmonix and MTV Games put out a downloadable track for owners of the Xbox 360 version of the game to buy, with proceeds going to the Doctors Without Borders organisation. The track in question? ‘All You Need is Love.’
This track has now gone on to become the fastest-selling Rock Band track ever, after only two days on offer, managing to raise tens of thousands of dollars for Doctors Without Borders.
Additionally, the auctioning of a limited edition The Beatles: Rock Band Xbox 360 console raised a whopping $17 300 – this money will enable Doctors Without Borders to “purchase the equipment needed to carry out 86,500 immunizations using auto-disposable syringes, or purchase enough emergency kits composed of drugs and medical supplies to meet the basic needs of more than 2,800 people for 15 days in the aftermath of a disaster.”
President of the board of directors of Doctors Without Borders, Dr. Matt Spitzer commented:
“We are thrilled over the contributions to us so far from downloads of ‘All You Need Is Love,’ and from the auction of the beautiful, one-of-a-kind Xbox console. We are incredibly grateful for having been selected as the beneficiary of this promotion. Funds generated from initiatives such as this can go a long way.
“Severely malnourished children will be treated, people displaced by war will receive life-saving medical care, and people living with HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and other neglected diseases will have access to the medicines they need. On behalf of our patients, Doctors Without Borders says ‘Thank You.’”

In an extremely surprising move, Guitar Hero 5 in its debut week on sale has denied The Beatles: Rock Band the opportunity to take the No. 1 spot on Chart Track’s All Formats Software Sales Chart for the UK, by claiming the position for itself.
This is the first time a Guitar Hero game has reached the top spot in its first week on sale.
Colin McRae: DiRT 2 also denies The Beatles an elevated position on the chart, as the excellent rally racing game sits at No. 2 this week in its first week on sale. Batman: Arkham Asylum, despite a 60% drop in sales, charts at No. 3, while only at No. 4 do we see the appearance of The Beatles: Rock Band, which is the highest debut spot achieved by a Rock Band game yet
Usual suspect Wii Fit and Wii Sports Resort show up at No. 5 and No. 6, down from No. 4 and No. 2 last week respectively, while IL2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey (3% sales drop) manages to hang on to a Top Ten position at No .7, down from No. 6.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare keeps at it at No. 8, down from No. 3 last week, Mario Kart Wii reappears in the Top Ten at No. 9 from No. 12, and Ashes Cricket 2009 slips to the precipice of the Top Ten listing at No. 10, from No. 5 last week.
Other interesting movement on the chart this week includes Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 moving out of the Top Ten to No. 11 from No. 7 last week, Fight Night Round 4 also making ‘the move’ from No. 9 to No. 12 this week, Championship Manager 2010, in a very difficult debut week, appears on the chart at No. 13, Mini Ninjas, yet another debut title, shows up at No. 15, Wolfenstein slips to No. 17 from No. 11, Section 8 debuts at No. 22, Fifa 09 drops to No. 25 from No. 16 last week, and Assassin’s Creed falls to No. 35 from No. 26.

As though we didn’t already know, Apple Corps, MTV Games and Harmonix have taken the liberty to announce that The Beatles: Rock Band will be releasing tomorrow, September 9th, on PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii in North America, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and other territories, allowing fans of the super group to relive some of the moments from the legendary band’s career, as well as unlock trivia and rare archival materials, including videos, photos and audio recordings.
Accompanying the ‘announcement’ is the full track list reveal. Previously, we knew about 44 of the 45 tracks to be included in the game, but now the final, 45th song has been confirmed to be ‘The End.’ Additionally, “All You Need is Love” will be released tomorrow exclusively through Xbox LIVE for a limited time, with proceeds resulting from the purchase of the song going to Doctors Without Borders organisation.

MTV Games and Harmonix have revealed 19 more of the 45 on-disc tracks for The Beatles: Rock Band. The new songs include hits such as ‘A Hard Day’s Night,’ ‘Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds’ and ‘Ticket to Ride.’
We now know 44 of the tracks which will be included in the game, with just one song left to be announced before the game is available for the Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii on the 9th of September.
