CBS bringing Diagnosis Murder, some other stuff to gaming platforms

November 4th, 2009 at 06:00am Under Xbox 360

CBS announced today that it’s bringing a wide array of its TV programming to the video game world, mainly via the PC, Wii and DS. As you can see after the break, the company revealed equally insipid-sounding game versions of Survivor, Hollywood Squares, The Amazing Race, and Criminal Minds, but we don’t see how we’re supposed to care about any of it when it was also revealed that a Diagnosis Murder game is in the works.

We’re assuming it’s a Visceral-developed “dark” take on the DM mythos, with a Gothic Dr. Mark Sloan walking a demonic version of Los Angeles, solving murder mysteries with a caduceus-shaped staff dipped in angel blood. We assume this because we laid out the design doc pretty clearly in our letters, and we can’t fathom why CBS would want to disappoint us.

Tosh.0 giving ‘N64 Kid’ a second chance

October 24th, 2009 at 08:00pm Under Wii / Nintendo

It was with awkward trepidation that we first approached Comedy Central’s Internet content-laden Tosh.0 — working online all day can leave you feeling a bit strange when you find the same content in the TV box, ya know? But when we read over at GoNintendo that the exuberant comedian would be giving his famed “Web Redemption” treatment to the Internet’s own “N64 kid,” we couldn’t help but get overexcited. We started pumping our fists in the air and shouting and … well, you already know, don’t you? The show will be airing this Thursday on Comedy Central, but check your local listings for the specifics.

Rumor: Eight minutes of footage of the Xbox’s Sky Player

October 23rd, 2009 at 04:30pm Under Xbox 360

Even though the Sky Player is headed to Xbox 360s in the UK next week (October 27 to be exact), we have yet to see any kind of demonstration of the streaming television service. TechTV101 came across what looks like some footage (after the break), given to the site by an anonymous tipster. However, without any known source and with the ominous disclaimer “This is only representative of what Tuesday’s launch could look like” on the site, we’re going to call this a rumor just in case.

The demo shows the channel selection displayed not only in the familiar NXE interface, but also in a “guide” format like those used by cable and satellite boxes. Another NXE-type menu allows for choosing TV shows and movies by category. And yes, you are treated to an ad for Batman: The Brave and the Bold, along with other footage of the actual watching TV part in action.

HSN teaches valuable lesson about Wii accessory safety

October 18th, 2009 at 07:30pm Under Wii / Nintendo

We were certain — absolutely certain — that the epidemic of fractured television screens which cropped up with the release of the Wii had passed. Everyone’s heard the horror stories, seen the blackened eyes and witnessed the ruined electronics, we thought. Everyone now knows the methods of avoiding Wiimote accidents during their exuberant Wii Sports bouts, we thought. The Home Shopping Network recently proved the inaccuracy of this observation.

The hilarity unfolds in the video after the jump. While some might grimace at the fate of the poor television featured in the video, remember that they’re charging $330 for a Wii and 15 completely unnecessary controller attachments. Call it an accident, if you’d like — we call it Karma in action.
