Green Day: Rock Band unveiled, plus rocking debut trailer

The Spike TV Video Game Awards was the place to be this past weekend. In addition to a number of world premiere debut trailers being showcased, a new standalone Rock Band title was also unveiled at the event.

Harmonix, MTV Games and Warner Bros. have teamed up with Green Day to bring Green Day: Rock Band to music gamers. The game is described as an “extension and expression of Green Day’s most-defining albums and key moments throughout their career to date.”

“We’ve worked with the Rock Band team in the past year to enable our fans to play tracks from 21st Century Breakdown, and we’re excited to now be working on a game, spanning our entire career,” said Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong. “We want people to fire this up, choose their favorite Green Day tracks, and play along with us as Rock Band avatars so they can feel what it’s like to perform on stage as Green Day.”

Green Day: Rock Band will feature the likenesses of Green Day band members, Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and Tré Cool as well as select venues and art specific to the band’s history. The game will be available for the Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii worldwide in 2010.The track list will be fully exportable, so gamers can play the songs in Rock Band and Rock Band 2 on the Xbox 360 and PS3.

Green Day fans can also look forward to three more tracks from 21st Century Breakdown arriving in the Rock Band Music Store tomorrow. The three pack of songs will include “Christian’s Inferno,” “Last of the American Girls,” and “¡Viva La Gloria!” These latest DLC songs as well as other Green Day tracks previously released on the Rock Band platform will be supported in Green Day: Rock Band.

Batman returns in new sequel, explosive debut trailer revealed

Warner Bros. has revealed that a sequel to Batman: Arkham Asylum is currently in development at Rocksteady Studios.

Batman: Arkham Asylum 2 will be based on DC Comic’s core Batman property and will be published worldwide by Warner Bros. No further details about platforms or a release date are known at this time, but you can keep an eye on the intriguing www.arkhamhasmoved.com for more information.

New Scene It? now available for the Wii, PS3 and 360

Warner Bros. and Screenlife have announced that Scene It? Bright Lights! Big Screen! is now available across North America for $39.99 for the Wii, PS3 and Xbox 360. This marks the debut of the trivia franchise on the Wii and PS3.

The game includes thousands of new questions about recent film releases (such as The 40 Year Old Virgin, Superbad, Tropic Thunder and Get Smart) and Hollywood hits from the last four decades (including The Karate Kid, Superman and Fatal Attraction).

Scene It? Lights, Camera, Action Big Button Pads

Scene It? Bright Lights! Big Screen! features both single and multiplayer gameplay, with players being tested on speed and knowledge when playing alone or up to four teams testing their big screen familiarity with over 20 puzzles and mini-games across four play modes in multiplayer action.

The Star System mini-game at the end of each round also allows players to extend the lead or catch up. Gamers can choose from 12 new Hollywood inspired avatars such as Horror Queen, Leading Man or Desperado. Luckily the game is compatible with multiple controllers so you can use the standard console controllers, BUZZ! buzzers as well as the Big Button controllers.

Blur set to feature in LEGO Rock Band, first screenshots and trailer included

Warner Bros and MTV Games have announced that popular UK Band Blur will be featured in their upcoming rhythm game LEGO Rock Band.

The game will feature the likeness of singer Damon Albarn, guitarist Graham Coxon, bassist Alex James and drummer Dave Rowntree as LEGO mini figures, performing the group’s hit track ‘Song 2.’

LEGO Rock Band for the Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii is currently in development by TT Games in partnership with Harmonix, while Backbone Entertainment is lending a hand for the DS version of the game. Free DLC coming to Batman: Arkham Asylum on 17 September

Eidos and Warner Bros. have announced that a free downloadable map pack will be available for Batman: Arkham Asylum this September.

The Insane Night Map Pack will include two challenge maps and will be available for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC from the 17th of September. The new maps promise to “hone [players] FreeFlow Combat skills and test their Invisible Predator prowess.”

“In the ‘Totally Insane’ FreeFlow Combat map, players will be tested to their fullest as scores of escaped lunatics bear down upon BATMAN as they make their escape through the asylum’s secure records facility. These fast-moving foes will challenge all but the most practiced players, with quick reactions and expert timing needed to fend off wave upon wave of insane inmates, bent on taking down the DARK KNIGHT.”

“In the ‘Nocturnal Hunter’ Invisible Predator map, players take on a wholly different approach, practicing their predatory skills to remain in the shadows, utilizing the Arkham watchtowers and Batman’s arsenal of gadgets to gain the upper hand on The Joker’s army of goons patrolling below.”

Batman: Arkham Asylum is available now for the PS3 and Xbox 360. The PC version of the game is scheduled to hit shelves today.

5 new tracks unveiled for LEGO Rock Band

Warner Bros has announced five new tracks for their upcoming rhythm game LEGO Rock Band.

  • Bon Jovi – “You Give Love a Bad Name”
  • Sum 41 – “In Too Deep”
  • The Counting Crows – “Accidentally in Love”
  • Blink 182 – “Aliens Exist”
  • The Hives – “Tick Tick Boom!”

The game merges two popular franchises, combining the multiplayer music experience of Rock Band and the accessibility, customization and humour of LEGO games, hoping to deliver a family-friendly music experience.

Here’s the list of the previously announced tracks:

  • Blur – “Song 2”
  • Carl Douglas – “Kung Fu Fighting”
  • Europe – “The Final Countdown”
  • Jackson 5 – “I Want You Back”
  • Good Charlotte – “Boys and Girls”
  • Pink – “So What”

Warner reveals Where The Wild Things Are game

Warner Bros. has revealed that a movie tie-in game based on the upcoming film ‘Where the Wild Things Are’ is in the works.

‘Where the Wild Things Are’ is a children’s picture book written by Maurice Sendak that was published in 1963. The action adventure videogame will be available for the Wii, PS3, Xbox 360 and Nintendo DS in November. The film, which is directed by Spike Jonze, will be released across the UK on the 11th of December.

Where the Wild Things are

The game sees players stepping into the role of young Max as he explores the island of the Wild Things, journeying across dangerous terrain, overcoming obstacles and facing fierce creatures. Before long he befriends the creatures and becomes their king, later having to find a way to save them as the island faces destruction.

Amaze Entertainment is handling the Wii, PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game while WayForward will be in charge of the Nintendo DS version.

“Where the Wild Things Are is a beloved children’s stories and we are excited to deliver an immersive interactive experience based on and inspired by the feature film from Spike Jonze,” said Samantha Ryan, Senior Vice President, Production and Development, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.

“Through their action-filled adventure, players will team-up with the Wild Things – each with their own unique skills or special talents – learn valuable new abilities and work together to find a way to safety.”
