December 16th, 2009 at 04:30pm Under Xbox 360

What’s it going to be on XBLA this week, an alien onslaught or a puzzle apocalypse? The choice is yours, whether it be Tecmo’s Puzzlegeddon or Team17’s Alien Breed Evolution. Either game will set you back 800 Microsoft Space Bucks (ten earth dollars), so it boils down to preference. Frankly, we’ve always been fans of mowing down waves of alien scum, but destroying your friends via brightly colored blocks has its charms too. Check out the latest XBLA in Brief and see which one speaks to you.

This Wednesday: Alien Breed Evolution brings about Puzzlegeddon on XBLA

December 14th, 2009 at 08:20pm Under Xbox 360

It looks like we get more than the previously announced Alien Breed Evolution on XBLA this week, as Major Nelson has revealed that it will be joined by Puzzlegeddon from Tecmo. Despite its apocalyptic name, Puzzlegeddon sports an entirely cheery disposition, complete with lots of bright colors and bubbly music. The PC version previously received some decent reviews, and we’ve certainly been roped in by cute puzzle games in the past.

Alien Breed Evolution and Puzzlegeddon will run you 800 ($10) apiece.

Zeno Clash: Ultimate Edition trailer isn’t creepy enough

December 14th, 2009 at 05:45pm Under Xbox 360

The trailer we’ve placed below the break for XBLA’s Zeno Clash: Ultimate Editiion is a failure. It’s not that you won’t get a good idea of the first-person-brawler-slash-shooter’s gameplay — you will. It’s that the clip doesn’t come within a million miles of communicating just how skin-crawlingly creepy the experience of playing Zeno Clash is.

Just for the record, it’s kind of like taking a shower in Neil Gaiman’s bathwater after its been filtered through David Lynch’s birth certificate. Cr-eepy.

Square Enix plans ‘0 Day Attack on Earth’ for Dec. 23

December 14th, 2009 at 05:00pm Under Xbox 360

Square Enix is swooping in like some kind of Tetsuya Nomura-designed Santa Claus and delivering the world what it wants — nay, needs — just in time for the hap-hap-happiest time of the year: a twin-stick shooter for Xbox Live Arcade. Its been announced via the game’s official Twitter feed that 0 Day Attack in Earth will invade the Xbox Live Marketplace on December 23.

Like Sony’s The Last Guy, 0 Day Attack on Earth uses satellite photography for its real-world city battle zones — only players are tooling around high above the ground blasting ginormous alien invaders with a friend, or just solo. We went hands-in with the game at TGS 2009 and found it to be … well, the verdict’s still out of this world.

XBLM December deals: Cheap Shadow Complex, Maw

December 10th, 2009 at 05:20pm Under Xbox 360

Microsoft has announced the Xbox Live Marketplace content schedule for December and it’s a real doozy. The Deals of the Week — usually a haven for long-forgotten or unwanted DLC — are actually real deals this month. In particular, Shadow Complex will be dropped from 1200 ($15) to 800 ($10) during the week of December 21. The following week, starting December 28, Twisted Pixel’s The Maw will fall from 800 ($10) to a miniscule 400 ($5).

In addition to the normal Deals of the Week, Microsoft will also be offering daily deals from December 18-31. The company didn’t specify what any of those deals will be, though it promises discounts on “games, movies, blockbuster game add-ons, holiday themes, you name it!” Rest assured, we’ll be keeping our eye on things once the deals start rolling.

In the meantime, check out the XBLM December schedule, including Deals of the Week, Games on Demand and XBLA after the break.

Perfect Dark coming early 2010, still ‘winter’

December 9th, 2009 at 04:45pm Under Xbox 360

Say what you will about Rare, it certainly knows us. The company announced via its Twitter account that the XBLA version of Perfect Dark was officially slated for early 2010 and not winter like it promised, and before we could even work ourselves into the hint of a lather, Rare chided that the window “is still ‘winter’, stop moaning.”

To help smooth things over a little more the company dropped the fresh screenshot you can see above. OK, Rare, you’re forgiven … this time.

XBLA Update: Qix++

December 9th, 2009 at 11:08am Under Uncategorized

Qix++ XBLA Box Art

For 800 MS Points on this day, you will be able to buy and download the Xbox LIVE Arcade game Qix++, a modern-day re-imagining and remake of the original screen-sector game released many years ago.

Qix++ (pronounced by many as ‘kicks’), this new version apparently contains “sleek graphics and cool sound effects” and is “[r]eloaded with new features and a multiplayer mode,” and will include the classic screen-capturing gameplay as seen in the originals, although no further concrete information is currently available.

As per usual, Qix++ will (should) have a demo available, so you can check it out on Xbox LIVE Marketplace now.

DLC for the popular game was promised roughly three months ago, so hopefully for fans of Trials HD, this time it’s for real. Watch the trailer just below:
